Ok /out/ haven't been lurking for awhile so this is my first post so sorry if I stumble into a meme or something.
My question is what are some good camping areas in the park? I will be driving down initially with my girlfriend hiking a bit isn't a issue.
Wondering if anyone who's been there has some insight into the camp grounds or pictures as the websites descriptions are vague . Looking for something that's within hiking distance of the camp site but is still in the woods and isn't crowded with people.
Anything would be grateful as I don't know the area since I live in PA.

I have kayaks but this river seems more white water than just slapping your open kayak in the water and floating down.
What areas would you recommend? I would like to be near the river and some swimming areas while still having my camp in the woods.

I live 15 minutes from here. There's lots of camping but no official backcountry camping.
State park campgrounds: exactly what you'd expect, picnic tables, families, etc.
Raft company campgrounds: drink beer and holler until 6 am, pass out for a few hours, then go rafting.
Private campgrounds: depends on the owner. Most are quiet, family-friendly deals.
I think for what you want you should consider checking out the campsites in the Bluestone WMA. It's pretty far from the gorge but very remote and right by the river. http://www.bluestonewma.com/camping.html
If you want to try to stealth/primitive camp, there are some spots in the Meadow River gorge. Good luck parking your car overnight, though.
You probably don't want to open kayak the lower new, it is big whitewater. There are lots of lakes and flatwater around, though. Stop at Waterstone or Ace in Fayetteville, they can help you out.
