What do you wear as base layer for long hikes?
My setup is mostly merino (some icebreaker, some cheaper brands)
this baby and two boxershorts just came in

Ditto. Merino (Smartwool and Icebreaker) tops, silk or merino (commando, seasonal) bottoms.
Life is too short for shitty apperal.

super.natural
I got these

I dont know how good they are yet, as I just got them on amazon day. I also have a shirt by kathmandu and a longsleeve and long underpants by macpac. They are not necesarrily cheap, but cheaper than icebreaker and I got them in NZ
I usually just wear a cotton t-shirt and underwear.
For cold weather I have synthetic long johns and half-zip top.
I also use wool socks, the weight depends on the weather and terrain (+footwear).

> cotton
> baselayer
Why clothes at all?
> naked is not afraid

I generally hike in warm, dry areas where this is not a problem.
Merino wool is nice but it also costs 10x the price and provides almost no benefit over cotton to me.

Under Armour makes cool stuf
ArcTeryx is patrician and superior. Maybe too good for warm weather.
Always synthetic, never merino shit

I bought a UA running shirt and a Nike dri-fit running shirt recently.
Dri-fit seems to stand up to abrasion more.
ie. Pack straps.
Probably doesn't matter for a base layer, though.

Why is this bad? I've hiked miles in the woods during winter with a t-shirt and jeans for my base layer without freezing to death.
Do Columbia omni-freeze shirts actually work? Local store has them on sale.

Uniqlo airism mesh shirts / trunks lately for the summer heat.
They don't seem durable, but I haven't had any problems yet. They also cost like 7 or 8 bucks and are super light.
For hot weather I wear Arcteryx Motus t shirts, they're very light, soft, cool, and fast drying.
For colder weather I like the TAD huntsman henleys made from merino. Never tried icebreaker but I've heard it recommended and it seems like good stuff.
