Post some pics of your outist life.
I'll start with few.
Some national park.
Crossing a large swamp.
Nice trail.
Place where we picked blue berries an hour ago.
The berries.
My trusty /out vehicle.
Some of my gear. Also hats.
Just hanging out by a godforsaken swamp getting eaten alive with ticks up my dickhole in order to get a recording. I pulled something like 5 ticks off me when I got home.
Was beautiful though.

Yesterday I spent time felling trees for work. It was hot and muggy out, but still a good time.

Well, I'm a sound and acoustical engineer (mostly in-studio and design work, but some location recordings when they come-up) but in my own time I do /out/ ambient and field recordings, mostly for fun and to document the places I go and the wildlife. It's really rewarding honestly, places are so much more vivid and interesting when you hear them back later... especially if you got a really good recording of it. A good recording is stunning when you first hear it back, but a year or two later it's even better. If you ask me, it's better than photography in a lot of ways. Check out the /frg/ thread! I've posted a bunch in it, along with other anons who do this.

I don't deet, it makes my skin swell terribly. And I was fresh-out of anti-tick condoms (I know, big /out/ faux-pas there). After that expedition I bought pic related and it has changed my life. I can't recommend these highly enough.

I like a level tent site, this was on the side of a mountain.
Once leveled, you stomp the snow with your snowshoes to compact.
If you did that prior to leveling, it would still be sloped.
My favorite place in the world.
sorry for shit quality
Camping trip, my wife and another couple. Hiked 6 miles to this lake, which is 500 acres and 100% un-developed, no road access. It was once part of a 13,000 acre section of wilderness that was owned by a 1800s millionaire banker. Family sold it all to the state in the 1960s when one of their 8 yr old kids went missing innawoods and was never found. The huge mansion and boat house are still there and we uh "borrowed" this canoe for the day to paddle around the lake. I have never seen any place as eerily desolate and wild as this place. No vehicles, no law mowers, no real evidence of humans at all except the abandoned mansion complex.
>>815725
different trip, same lake. boat house of the abandoned place. My canoe though, portaged it 5 miles.

Not exactly. We were acquiring geophysics data. Think they're drilling the area now. As far as I know they're getting a few 'sniffs' but nothing significant.
I got rekt at this one, we took a wrong turn, the chick thought she knew a shortcut. Ended up with scratches all over my arms and legs, big toes's nails got a blood clot, they're off now, re-growing, so that's nice. >where in alberta? how cold does it get around there and is it alright for camping in winter?
Kananaskis. -60c, averages around -10ish in the mountains. Never been winter camping yet but I've heard it's not much fun. I don't think many campgrounds are open so you're left with backcountry camping in 2 meters of snow.

Here's another picture of the same creek. I used to sit fifty yards away from it every deer season, and although I have a new spot, I walk into it and to the lake further in once a season. A storm last year made the mile long walk take three hours.
The first picture I posted was actually upside down, but 4chan auto rotated it. If you flip it upside down, it still looks like trees reflected in water.

No it's pretty loose and baggy so the mosquitoes can't get to 99% of your skin. I wear my normal clothes (usualy a long or short T-shirt) underneath. It's still possible to get bit on the elbows or shoulders or anythwere the mesh might be tight but you might get 1 bite per 100 without the jacket, so it's good.

>Swiss Salt & Pepper Rucksack
These are getting more expensive with every passing day. Originally got mine cause it was in shit shape for C$50. Now a lot are in the upwards of $100-175. I just repaired mine and gave the leather a lot of love and it was good to go.
>MEC Parka
Literally just a MEC Parka I found in the lost and found at my very first job like 5 years ago. Slate grey and 100% cotton. It was a short day hike so it was fine for that. Doesn't even have a label past the washing instructions.
>BD Hand Towel & Toque
Germany military issued hand towel around my neck. Can't remember where I got the inspiration for that but I think it was Charlie Sheen in PLATOON. Wool hat with a fleece lining.
>H&M L.O.G.G Cargo Pants
Cheap cargo pants that I usually buy in bulk, dye and waterproof the fuck out of. It can be fun to make your own /out/ gear. Generally I'll buy a pair or two every few years, dye them some different earth tones, use some heavy duty waterproofing techniques and sometimes even get my tailor to stitch in some crotch and knee reinforcements.
>Swiss Mountain Troop Gaiters
Cheap and reliable. Mine have drawstrings but you can get the variant with a zipper. Also a good item for waterproofing.
>Timberland Boots
Normally I wouldn't wear Timbs on a hike, but it was a day trip and not an overnight thing. Plus I got them this past Christmas and hadn't really gotten a chance to wear them.
Finally, pretty sure I had a German BD sweater underneath. Important thing to know if you're gonna use military surplus is that it's called surplus for a reason: it was sold off because something better came around. Nothing wrong with surplus, but modern day fabrics and shit tend to be a lot better.

Winter fishing on a kayak around here is pretty fun. Very few people fish in the cold and the ones that do are usually the more dedicated dudes with bass boats. Everything is beautiful in a vaguely spooky way.
