So fellas, I'm aTexan planning on doing some solo hiking up in rocky Mountain National park in late july/early August. I'm pretty much just used to trails down here, so I wanted to know if I needed to prepare for any wild game that far north. I'm totally fine with beer mace, but I wanted to make sure I didn't need to bring a firearm chambered in .45 lc before I went.
God forbid I look like a total animu autist with my 10 gallon hat and single action revolver if I don't have to.
Thanks for the input

Rocky Mountain National park only has black bears. There are no grizzlies in Colorado
The only thing you have to fear from them is that they might steal your food
Firearms are prohibited in national parks.
Lame rule that I never understood.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.
Bear spray has been shown to be more effective anyways.
Recent study reviewed the effectiveness of bear spray and the effectiveness of firearms.
The study found out of about 250 bear attacks where a person used a firearm as defense, they found it worked 85% with a hand gun, 79% of the time with a long gun. 13 people died, and there were several other injured. This was compared with people who used absolutely nothing as defense, and found firearms in general have the same effective rate as using nothing at all. I was really surprised at that.
Then they studied encounters that bear spray was used, about 215 bear attacks. They found it had a 99% effective rate at repelling an aggressive bear, and of the 215 attacks no one was killed and no one had serious injuries.
I know it made a believer in bear spray.

That's not true at all. A bear was sprayed and still killed two people at Algonquin park

Discharging a fire arm is illegal if not in self defense. Concealed carry is fine as long as you have a license.

He didn't say 100% effective did he faggot?
Just dont be a fag. either sheer unluckyness will tumble you within 5 feet of grizzly or you will be fine. Bear country is my backyard and honestly the only real advice is just dont be dumb.

Open carry is allowed as well. No license required

Sorry, should have mentioned the study specifically studied Alaska.

Are you talking about the 1991 attack? That's the only time in the parks history 2 people were killed and there's no information about them having used bear spray.
Like another anon said, it's not 100% effective, and even if it was 100% effective there would be people who use it incorrectly.
The point is, that spray is MUCH MORE effective than firearms.
