So I went out today for a day trip to test my new hammoxk. It was my first completely solo innawoods day and while it was at times really satisfying I have to admit I was very scared a few times.

At first, every noise some bird made with twigs on the forest floor made me anxious. Then I heard some squirrels running around. Then a few very distant barks. I was in no way danger, yet I could almost never switch my mind from "flight or fight" mode.

Brehss... As an inexperienced newbie who is looking forward to spend a lot of time in the woods this summer, I'm asking if you maybe have advice for me on how to relax and not stress out on every little stupid noise? I can never imagine myself doing a solo overnighter this way.

just carry bearspray, or a GPS if you're way the fuck out there.
>>
>>805822
Yes, I tried.

>>805826
I had it, but it's subconscious. Having pepper spray and my knife on my side didn't manage to make me feel afraid of noises and scary thoughts.

well, you could bring a bluetooth and just have music playing - i work innawoods alone all day and that keeps me feeling safe, bears and shit really dont wanna investigate loud noises they tend to keep to themselves unless threatened.

Just occupy your mind with something else, meditation, whittling, play solitaire, bring a harmonica.

Or just strip naked and dare nature to fuck with you, nature is a coward, you'll sleep well.

For peace of mind, just bring bear spray.

I would say just get hammered like I do, but honestly that doesn't help. Sometimes spoopy shit happens, sometimes shit way out of the ordinary - lights moving about far away in the forest, large animals/people/??? tromping around, etc. You just get used to it, it's as simple as that. I've had some of the most unnerving things happen ( a bear stalking my camp all night, etc), things that sound like a person walking close to my camp and walking slowly away over and over again, etc. Even on my own property in my friendly neighborhood where I have nothing to worry about. Every time it's either nothing, or it's nothing to worry about.

I often have deer hiss at me (they get testy when you encroach on their personal space) and a couple times the hissing was more like a cat "rawr!" than a hiss... might have been a mountin' lion, idunno. Still, nothing - fucking - happens. Once you stop feeling like an outsider in the woods you appreciate that you belong there as much as anything else, and you're scarier than anything else out there, reasonably speaking.

Bring bear spray or a muhgun if you have to, and just get used to it. It's lovely.

>nature is a coward
This is unequivocally true. Literally every creature in the woods will avoid the fuck out of you unless it's either rabid or desperate and even then they think twice on it.
>>
Thanks for the advice lads.
>>
>>805817
You'll get used to it, to some extent.
The sounds I mean.
