I was out yesterday by myself and I was trying to hike through the forest to get to the lower alpine of a smaller mountain range in our area. I was walking anywhere that was the easiest and I saw a squirrel up in a tree. It was weird because I noticed it wasn't moving. That's when I noticed some taped wires on the tree. I zoomed my phone in on it, it was about 25 feet or so up the tree. In the middle of no where not on a trail at about 1000 feet up on forest service land, 100% positive it wasn't private property.

Don't worry about being alone because someone is always watching you.

Take a knife and/or a big stick if your spooked. I go out into the central texas bush alone on a weekly basis and spend most of the day out there. Most animals are scared enough of humans to steer clear. Just know basic bushcraft and make sure you know what to do when faced with whatever predators are in your area. Most of all make sure you don't get lost.

Its fine if you know what your doing. I like having my dog with me though, hes quite aware and hears/smells if something is going on long before I do

Not a big deal as long as you understand the risks. If you fuck up, you're on your own for a while. Personally I'd go with someone more experienced and learn a few things before you venture out solo.

Single best thing you can do is let someone know where you're going and when you'll be back (or check-in).

Basics for your chosen activity... first aid kit, navigation, survival stuff. Doesn't have to be anything fancy. Bandages/gauze/tape/water, map/compass/GPS, pocket knife, some cord/rope (mule tape is my preference), firestarters (flare or two, couple lighters), snacks, couple trash bags, space blanket. Change of socks is nice too. PLB or SPOT/InReach if you find yourself in the backcountry regularly. Basic toolkit to fix your shit.

Majority of my riding in the summer is done solo.
