Hocking Hills area and Cuyahoga Valley NP are both cool for just day hiking. For camping, you probably wanna look at state and national forests. State parks only allow camping at designated sites, which are usually not very /out/ (pic related)

This thread is relevant to my interests.
I'm from Cleveland, so the Metroparks system is pretty neat, and the CVNP is cool too. Closest National Forest is Wayne or Allegheny in PA.

as a Michigander, I end up having to drive through your state often to get anywhere. How do you guys cope with such a bland, flat place?

Whipps ledges, Cuyahoga Valley Nat'l Park, and Rocky River Reservation. If you live on the East side, may God have mercy on your soul.
Buttercup Valley and Parker's Woods Preserve is this neat little patch of old-growth forest preserve right in my neighborhood in Cincinnati. It's full of big trees in every direction and I can walk there from my house. http://www.cincinnatiparks.com/west/buttercup-valley-preserve/
