How useful are they? I'm considering getting one for hiking innamountains, since I'm white as fuck and can't handle the sun. Does anybody have one?

That's what I'm concerned about, but I don't know of an alternative solution

>inb4 sunscreen
That shit doesn't do what I want it to, I still get burned.
>>

just wear a wide brimmed hat, long sleeves and trousers ffs. wtf is that thing! are you going LARPing or hiking?

I have a sweet wool jellaba I bought in Morocco. Over there you can wear cloaks and stuff without feeling self-conscious so I've worn mine all through the mountains there. Can confirm it makes for extremely useful and versatile outdoor wear. Keeps you cosy at night, keeps you cool in the day.

you're how old and don't know how to properly dress for the weather? dumbass
>>
>>788842
Just dress like the deep sea fisherman do. Long sleeve white t-shirt, dry-fit if you want to be a boss. Whatever shorts or pants you want, those funky golf hats and some sunglasses.

Or you could try and get outside a little instead of playing PC games and fapping in a dark basement all day. Build up a base tan. I'm Irish and Russian but it's really hard for me to get sunburn because I already have a tan.

>>
>>789219
Not even burning it.

Start by mowing the lawn once a week. Then once you get a little tan, do some gardening for 2 hours. Then go to the beach for 3 hrs. Eventually you will be a bronze god like myself.

A hat and shirt covering your torso is enough to protect you from the sun

The tops of your arms shouldn't burn bad at all
>>
>>789233

Some people don't tan

Though, a shirt and hat is more than good enough for these people

>>
I've been thinking about sewing one out of millitary surplus blankets, would they be sorta waterresistant and not too heavy?
>>
>>788858
You're not going hardcore enough. I'm ginger, pale as fuck, got second degree burns from the sun once. But nowadays I've hiked in many african countries and alpine mountains. The secret is wear factor 50+, and re-apply literally every hour. You'll be greasy and disgusting beyond belief, but you won't burn.
>>
>>789574
Or nah. I took Ruskie "Bronze God" Ivanovitch's advice and bought a dry fit long sleeve shirt 20 minutes ago. They didn't have any real hats though, I'll have to look somewhere else

I've also gotten second degree sunburn before (mostly shoulders, back, and the tops of my feet), and i don't intend to repeat it
>>
>>788842
This is possibly the gayest thing I've seen in a long time OP, why not just get a long sleeve shirt and a wide brimmed hat?, seriously if I saw you walking down the trail in that cloak I would instantly think you were a weirdo and to be avoided at all cost.
>>
>>788842

This thread would be better if you were just honest from the get go that you want a traveling cloak because you think they are cool.
>>
>>789465
Why not just get a military surplus poncho, you know, thats water proof....
>>
>>789626
>implying i go innamountains to socialize
The issue with sleeves is it's hotter than a cloak, since you don't have air contact on the underside of your arms
>>
>>789210
What kind of fish are those?
>>
>>789239
this works for moors such as yourself and Mr. Hamilton, but for those of fair complexion it's not an option

I wear trousers and a comfortable fit collared shirt with a straw hat. It's pretty much impossible to burn like that.

I would wear the cloak only in cold or wet weather, though there is a way to wear robes for the sun of plains and deserts.
>>
>>789687

>>
>>789641
Because it looks and feels too modern, and muh lotr fantasies
>>
>>789692
>not on option for people of fair complexion

I told you, I'm fucking Russian and Irish and it's really hard for me to burn because I have a little tan going. It works jeezy.

I'm pasty as fuck where the sun don't shine tho.
>>
>>789692
>but for those of fair complexion it's not an option
Stop being stupid. Tans build slowly unless you're trying to tan intentionally but unless you have a skin or pigment disorder it does and will work.

>>
>>789632

Not OP, but

I want a traveling cloak because I think they are cool. I'm not even going to pretend I'm not some huge nerd. I know I'll look fucking ridiculous, but I don't care, I just wanna have fun

What do
>>
>>792617
When I was at school my friend worked for his father to earn extra allowance, his father had a landscape business that specialised in lawn care, one day my friend came to school with a bag of grass seed, during break he walked around the grassy area below the main school building and secretly poured out the seeds, from the ground nothing could be seen but as the weeks wore on the new grass began to grow through the old grass, and being as it was a different type of grass it contrasted with the new, the evil genius bastard had managed to draw a huge cock in grass right under the staff lounge windows which were situated on the third floor of the school.
>>
>>793701

>>
>>793701
$139 for cloak in OP's picture.

Would be cheaper to make one yourself.
>>
>>793711

Indeed. So off to /fa/ I go
>>
>>793714

Check this out first, it might be of help, also there are a huge amount of cloak "how to" videos on YT, so check them out too

>>
>>789574
Not OP but I've burnt through SPF 100 down in the tropics. Bad enought to blister. Reapplied throughout the day too, the sun just hates some of us.
>>
>>789692
>straw hat

How do they hold up /out/ though? Wind, climbing, etc? Don't they lose shape if packed, like if a sudden rain hits and you need to stow it?

I have the same problem as OP. Only solution I find is long sleeve/hoodie, long pants (legs burn too), maybe a hat of some sort, plus facial sunscreen. You can imagine on a 90+ day hiking for 5 hours straight it gets a bit sweaty. Wish shirts had subtle armpit vents.

>>793701

This actually. I bought a wool blanket for chu2/solo-larp reasons. I had the idea to use it instead of a sleeping bag. I mean, if down gets wet it is done, if wool gets wet it still is fine, makes sense? Also malleable pack size. But no actually I just want to pretend i'm in lotr.

>>794136

This. I can reapply every two hours and still burn.
>>
>>793694

exato - I wear this kind of shit when it's raining, always funny to see people react when they have not yet noticed you and you just stand until they do. Good fun.

>>788842
no point in getting roleplay coat, get a waterproof one. During rain it will keep you dry without overheating and during the nighttime it will serve as a tarp for shelter. when shit hits the capital fan you can use it to drag stuff (wounded people, dead animals)

I think people on /pol/ are bored because Trump and Brexit are the only things being spoken about right now
>>
If it fits your needs then it is useful, if you think it will help you then take it.

There is a reason why cloaks were worn for thousands of years, they are very useful.

You are gonna look like like a LARPer but this isn't /fa/ so it doesn't matter (desu they all LARP like heroin addicts but w/e)

Buy one, wear it. You seem to be already sold on it and are just here to ask if you will look like a loser when you wear it and you probably will but if you actually care if it is functional, yes it is.
