What are your thoughts on going /out/ in calk boots? i work in forestry and everyone who has them says it makes walking through the woods 5x easier, and is like having 4x4 for your feet Anyone have experience with them?

they're built for a specific purpose. wearing them for anything other than walking on slippery logs all day is a dumb idea.
if you want some extra traction for certain occasions get some strap on cleats or whatever

Interesting.
I have been looking for a pair of rubber boots with a very stiff sole.
I wonder if these would work.
This angle shows a pretty wacky shape.
Does not look comfy at all

FYI, You can get waterproof leather boots for cork boots too.
Some leather logger boots are made with little holes in the bottom so you can add, replace and remove cork studs as needed.
Personally, I would prefer leather boots over those rubber things. As a matter of fact, those boots in OP pic look actually like chainsaw safety boots. Probly stiff and heavy with no breathability

those sound like what i need, ill be on the lookout!

Rubber forestry boot suck absolute dick. Get leather boots but with those soles.
And to be honest, you really don't need them depending what you do.
are calk boots another term for chainsaw-boots? like pic related?
you do feel invincible while wearing them, striding though the underbrush like a lumbering, steel toed giant!
that is, until a twig breaks, your foot plummets into a hole and you fell the boot being the only thing holding the structure of your foot together. then you dont feel invincible anymore and your chainsaw lesson for the day is cut short, with hospital and all that bollocks
great security if your working a saw, would not bring if im not working a chainsaw,

All leatherboots used in forestry are waterproof, and so are leather boots if you treat them right.
My husqvarna technical xtreme sawingboots started to take in water when i had worn the sole out and the steeltip was exposed underneath.
My scarpa R-evolution gtx plus hiking boots keeps water out as well.
Treat and maintain your leatherboots right and they'll hold water out (rubber boots other hand needs zero maintenance in order to do the same tho)
OT: rubber sawing boots are uncomfortable, heavy and generally just shit in all manners.

My Redwings have a sympatex liner. Yeah, leather gets wet, but my feet stay dry.

If you treat and retreat often leather can be pretty darn waterproof.

Looks like walking on anything but uneven forest ground or climbing slick things with those would be horrible. I also think it'd mangle pedals or carpet/wood floors.

>Confirmed for never having owned more than one pair of leather boots before
OP here - ended up buying a pair today. only pair in a 4 hour radius. they're pretty uncomfy but i figure i can just wear normal hiking boots on nice days and these on shitty days.

So what brand or model boot did you get?
>>789495
i got the exact ones in the pic i posted. definitely buying insoles for them or something.

Heh, properly treated leather is excellent for waterproofing, I take it you've never used Dubbin before?
