danna 44 in the fromt
soon to be hub lockers on her and a full cage
I've been seeing these things around lately, 2016 Ram ProMaster City, and wonder if it would make a good camper.
Has anyone driven one?
2002 subaru impreza ts. It's comfortable enough for city living and it's got enough room to sleep in the back and haul around my gear. My only complaints is that it's an auto, not turbo'd, fucking head gaskets, not enough clearance for rougher roads(working on getting it lifted an inch), and the exhaust rattles. It has taken me on several adventures and it will hopefully take me on several more.
Not mine but it's the exact year and model I drive. Even the same color.
Muh truck
Smells like a steak and seats thirty-five

My baby. '05 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the Hemi V8, 345 hp. Just took me over 50,000 miles in the past year all over the USA. 8,000 or so probably were off paved roads and in some really rough spots in certain parks/forests. Fast and while it's had a few issues, it's gotten me everywhere alive so I love it.
This was in Antelope Island State Park outside of Salt Lake City. A bit oversaturated but I like the backdrop.

your tires are looking pretty slick there OP. be sure to get actual offroading capable tires next time. trust me when i say even the slightest amount of offlroading (dirt/gravel rock) will wear through street/passenger tire rubber in no time

Gets the job done and it's easy to fix etc with a small set of tools in the trunk. It has a i6 so it's pretty good on gas.
Also I have a better pack now before people jump on me.
>>779017
Nothing wrong with that pack man. It's not the tool, it's what you can do with it.

Notta car but my buddies and I all use the little 70cc dirt bikes for woods running. They come in big handy during hunting season.
Run all day on a single tank. Also multi-fuel in that you can run them on pump gas, liberal tears, or envy.

'88 Samurai
Had this since I was 17, got it for $250, fixed it up and now it is my /out/ vehicle
Nice and light, great mileage, no fucked up electronic anything, insurance is great, goes everywhere I need to go
Been down a ton of Forest Service roads in all kinds of weather and conditions, never let me down, ever
>>780013
I'm looking into getting either one of those or a geo tracker. Any advice?
>>780013
Nice. i would love to have that thing.
Thoughts on the Jeep Cherokee?
>>780213
Old one or new one?
I know all about Grand Cherokees. And older regular Cherokees a bit. 4.0L I6 is bulletproof in the old ones. Just make sure the 4WD works in them because sometimes it will shit itself and the owner will never know if they don't use it much. And those end up being expensive fixes.
I went with a 4x4 ranger for outing, though I used a zx3 focus for several years before it. I've since put a toolbox with ready to go camping/rising stuff that is locked up.
>>780213
Two door Cherokees are badass, though a hell of a lot harder to find too.
>>780244
Camping / fishing is what that should say
>>780213
Get a wrangler, cherokees are unibody which is a pain to fix when you squeeze it between trees. As others have said check the 4wd. Dana 30s are piss poor and easy to blow so check the front diff too.
2005 Outback
I'd like to make it alittle more off-road worthy. I will eventually pick up some of the primitive skid plates. I'd also like to upgrade the wheels, but I don't really know anything about that. It currently has 16" wheels on it:
> Are certain wheels stronger/better for off roading or would I be fine with the oem?
> What wheel size/ tire size is best?
> How do I find out what wheel and tire size will fit?
Other than that I'm in the process of building a roof rack. Are there any other essential upgrades to make this a good offroading car?
>>780876
where the fuck did all my text go? w/e
2016 taco offroad with all the trimmings. it's been a great little truck so far. no major adventures yet, but ive taken it on a few weekend camp trips
2008 used should i get one?
>>780899
not if you expect it to do anything offroad or be reliable.
that's basically just a bigger entry level sedan with "trail rated" slapped on the side
>>780911
i cant afford anyting else, ;(

Mad Max that shit son
>Gut the interior aside from the driver's side seat
>Get rid or the windows, weld metal bars on to replace them, throw on some screens underneath

>get some off road tires

Anyone here have a 1st Gen 4runner? Is it true that the seal gets messed up if you take the topper of? I've been searching for one, especially an '85 with fuel injection and the front axle.
>>780918
get an old gen 1 crv or an old rav4. way better cars than what chrysler is putting out.
>>780226
my grandma bought a 94 new and has it to this day. Starting finally shitting the bed sadly
>>778477

>>778591
Nice heep. Those forreal beadlocks? What year/trim?
>>780958
Fake beadlocks, the wheels came with the tires. '90 wrangler is what it started out as.
>>780938
Every camper seal gets messed up if it's old, just relace them. The more you take off/put on the top the longer they last. I used silicone grease on my K5's seals to extend the life, not sure if it really did anything though.

I drive AWD diesel Duster. Like it a lot.
>>783218
Surprisingly good little 4x4s. They are cheap, no frills, tough, and just work. Good choice.
>>780899
They're aren't that great, but are probably the cheapest 4x4 you can find. They're reliable, terrible interiors, and pretty cheaply made. The higher trim models that are "trail rated" are better than your typical CUV, but not as good as a dedicated offroad vehicle.
Another good choice is a forester, or outback. Get some decent tires and they'll serve you well.

I was never a truck guy. Didn't like them. Too big, too slow, rides terrible, ect ect.
Then I bought a house and needed to tow stuff. Broke down and looked at trucks.
I was won over right away. They're fantastic.
>>783493
Fyi, inb4 fattie. Wife is 7 month pregnant here.
>>783493
yeah, they ride like Cadillacs and go wherever the jeeps can go. Cozy as hell.
gas mileage is pretty bad, but you can haul anything you want.

Mine's a 3/4-ton jeep.
>Front/rear lockers
>Sway bar disconnect
>4.56 diffs
>heavy duty everything
>12k winch
>Full skid plate
Truthfully if I'm gonna end up innadirt, i'd rather do it on my orange 1-wheel-drive.
>>784102
I'd take my stock ram 1500 any place you can take a stock jeep except- you know- extremely narrow trails.
the breakover angle's for shit but I've got better skidplates and a hell of a lot more whorespower.
Get on my level
I want to take pic related off-roading
>dat 8wd with locking diffs
>heavy chassis for suprisingly good center of gravity
>muh torks with 10spd trans and creeper gears
>kenworth stronk
>>784117
>extremely narrow trails
Not him, but before I got my old XJ I used to drive around innawoods with my dad's '97 1500 SLT and that thing was just too big for a lot of the trails I drive around on now. I guess it just depends where you are, but here in middle TN, the little XJ has been real nice for some of the really narrow trails.
>>780760
Talk to Paul at Primitive and let him know what you want to do with the car. Primitive makes lift kits for most Subaru. You can even pick up wheels from them and they can probably recommend tires that will fit well with your lift.
If you go down a size in rims (15") you will have more tire options. Your stock 16" rims are fine for light offroading and even some rallycross.

Here is my Subaru way /out/ there stuck on a remote beach in northern California. With lots of help we dug it out and pushed it back to the road. Man was that a dumb idea.

>>784354
I miss my r34. I don't miss nissan part prices though.
>>781541
Yup, 4.6 stroker actually. 8.8 rear end, 4:10 gears, spring over conversion, grand cherokee front knuckles. Pretty much done besides cosmetic and comfort until I blow the tranny or dana 30 in the front. Once the front end goes I'll throw in arb air lockers and a dana 44 front. I'm also thinking about putting in an NV4500, but they're meme priced now so more likely that I'll stick with the ax15 and twin stick it if I ever decide I need the lower gearing.
>>784208
That is cool. What model/year ?
>>783489
Thanks. I do like cheap maintenance and spare parts costs.

Is this a landcruiser of a defender? My neighbor has a defender and I'm jelly whenever i see it. Unfortunately he daily drives it and he doesn't seem to take it off road or anything, quite the shame.
>>785123
That's a Defender. I drive that same model in your pic for work. That thing will pull a house down the freeway at 60mph all day every day.
Currently drive a beater Civic but thinking about grabbing one of these for off-road duty. I've gotten the Civic stuck a few times and I'm really tight on space for longer trips.

Pipefitter here
>>787074

>>787074
My brother had those same wheels on his 1994 jeep. They're an ugly wheel until you get them on a 1990's vehicle and then somehow they look right.
Love the truck, those fuckers will go anywhere, and be happy doing it.
Also, peppy puppy looks happy to be camping.
