Hi /out/

Does anyone else ever research random uninhabited US islands and think about moving there and trying to live off the land?

All of these islands are so cool. Some of them have abandoned villages, because the government forced the locals to move to mainland AK.

Many of them are not visited by a human on even an annual basis. Some have small inuit populations. Some have WWII history.

shure sounds interesting but I imagine it would be kinda hard senpai. you'd need a proper shelter, steady food supply and all that. also maybe a seaplane or a boat to get yourself/material in/out. so you'd need to invest quite a budget first and hope the gov doesnt expel you from that island later. idk theres a million other things to factor in but I guess this is more of a dream scenario anyways

I'd rather move to Bjornoya

If I lived in Amerifatland and I knew how to farm I'd move up there.

Best of luck

If you do your research you'll quickly understand why nobody lives on those islands. The Alaskan mainland wilderness is rough enough and nightmarish when the conditions get just so. Fuck doing that on an island with even fewer land resources and higher exposure to foul weather.

Yeah bruh the winter's like 10 months long and being on the ocean it'll be harsh and horrible even in summer. Everything you own will rust and rot, whatever water supply you can manage will always be tainted with heavy minerals and salt, you'll go insane slowly with ergot poisoning all while whithering away from slow drawn-out rabbit starvation. then, when all hope is lost and you pray for some kind of rescue, you'll get bombed by the ruskies looking to secure their first bases of dominance in north america, shortly after the Nu-Confederacy sacks Washington DC - none of which you would have been aware of.

would be pretty af out there though, bring a camera! :3

These places are uninhabited for a reason.

I was going to say this, but was too lazy, also -

OP unless you're an experienced inuit eskimo, or some independently wealthy person or can somehow afford to be resupplied with food and things, you're gonna have a bad time.

It would be fucking awesomes though. No doubt. I would love to do such a thing. But I dont have the means to have support and provisions delivered regularly.

this only seems attractive because those guys made some 'happy-feet' feel-good-time film about about it.
It is just as stark, barren and inhospitable as any other island up there
>>
You'd have an easier time of it building an undeclared cabin somewhere in Southeast and hoping the forrest service doesn't find you anon. Once you get north of the Kenai peninsula winters get brutal up here.
>>

And also no terrestrial mammals or timber. So have fun with that, I guess.

What would use use for heat with no timber?

What would you eat with soil that would not grow any staple crops?

You really think you're going to be able fish enough to survive?

What about when it's 10 below zero, with 80 mph winds?

You would die within days.

Anything is possible with enough energy, and money.

Just put in some solar, wind, and batteries.

Desalinate through distillation, to also make potable water.

Grey water to flush toilets and to also water the garden. Black water goes to the compost.
