Lemon butter, with thyme and garlic, baked salmon, green beans, and broccoli and cheese rice

Tilapia fillet fried in butter seasoned with lemon pepper and breaded with Parmesan cheese. Then added some diced tomatoes and green chiles + paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and cumin to the pan and cooked until the liquid was gone.

Not bad really.

I love this but the butter blows the benefits of the fish but damn that butter almost burned tastes so good.
>>
>>763960
Yeah, I used about a tablespoon of butter so it added ~100 calories to the meal, realistically I could've gotten by with 1/2 tablespoon of butter for the single fillet. It sure gave the dish some good flavor though.

you don't have to use capers in the sauce, the idea is to get the most delicious and silky textured lemon/butter sauce you want to emulsify that shit together. the addition of capers or herbs or whatever is totally optional.

capers are a strong-flavoured flower edible bud common around the mediterrenean they're sold jars preserved in brine. the brine is salty so you can choose to rinse or not rinse your capers, depending on what flavor you're after. they have a fantastic flavor

>>

i fucking love them. they're kind of an acquired taste to some people, but you don't just eat a spoonful of them, you mix them into sauces, dips, and mezze dishes

How functional are potatoes as /out/ food? Surely you can just whack 'em in a bag and they'll keep for ages, right? And then you could boil them or fry them or bake them or whatever?
>>
>>764461
is that chicken or fish?

>>
>>764471
100 grams of potato will give you around 80 cals; 100 grams of rice around 130; 100 grams of beans around 350. So not that efficient, hence only for overnighters, car camping or comfy hikes.

Anon, that's not a proper figure for beans.

P.S. if you want to know the details for literally anything use wolframalpha.com and just put "n(g, grams) (whatever it is)"

for example, 100g chicken breast

Also, potatoes, rice and beans are very close, but beans and rice can be stored/carried completely dry (not saying potatoes can't, just that they normally aren't) so you're not carrying water weight, if you give a shit about that sort of thing.

I like to take minute rice on backpacking / camping trips because it doesn't take as much time to cook. It's pretty much just rice that's been cooked and then dehydrated again so all you need to do is add hot water to it. I can't imagine trying to cook dried beans on a camp stove, it would take forever and use up a lot of fuel.
>>
>>764566
>keep a spare nalgene/klean kanteen etc.
>day before you want to cook beans for din din, put beans in canteen and fill with water
>cook after soaking

but yeah, other than that beans do take a long time to cook.they work well for a "rest day" where you are doing laundry or something.
>>
>>764568
Yeah, I've found that dried lentils are an acceptable substitute for dried beans when /out/. They have a similar taste / consistency when cooked but the lentils only take ~30 minutes of cooking time and don't require a pre-soak.
>>
>>764566
I just cook the rice (long grain) for 15 min, and let it rest for 5 minutes. Somehow it has always worked for me. I just got tired of filthy ramen.
>>
>>764528
Wow I got those numbers from google. That's what I get for being a gud goy. On the bright side, I can triple my beans serving from now on
>>
>>764589
Eh, I just checked the nutrition facts on a couple of bags of beans I had in the pantry.

50g dried black beans = 170 calories so 100g = 340 calories

51g dried mayocoba beans = 180 calories so 100g = 353 calories
