South mountain state park in NC. Beautiful place but it gets tons of foot traffic now and it's hard to enjoy once it gets warm outside because of all the people. It has a drive in car camping campground, but I was camping at the campgrounds which were accessible only by hiking, so I never even considered I would end up next to these maniacs, even if it was only a 1-2 mile hike in. The loop I made ended up making it about 7 miles total, trying to get a feel for it so I can attempt longer trips with confidence. Next time I'll try the national forest where I can camp wherever I want, preferably out of earshot of everyone else.

The park is also full of trees that would-be lumberjacks tried to chop down then just gave up, scarring the trees hideously with nobody benefitting from it whatsoever.

Even backpacking I try to avoid designated campsites. Part of the wilderness for me is getting way out there where no one can find me, and I can't see or hear anyone else. If you're in the back country and go off trail, no one will know you're not camping in a designated site and no one will stop you. If your pack is small enough, you can even camp in parks that do not allow camping without arousing suspicion

Damn OP, sorry about your bad camping experience, the worst I've had to deal with at a state park was having to listen to loud, annoying generators being run all night by the RV and camper trailer people. There was also a creepy old Mexican guy who kept hanging around at the site next to ours all night without ever setting up a camp or anything... he'd go back and sit in his car for a couple of hours at a time and then he'd come back and sit on the picnic table alone in the dark for a while, it was REALLY fucking creepy.

I've been given anti psychotics, uppers, downerw, benzos, and ssri for paranoia, depression and anxiety. I took acid and realized I needed to get my life together, people werent out to get me and the best way to get better at things is to relax. I acid trip turned my whole life around. Im really being honest. I never even took care of my owv hygiene before, I would go weeks without shaving, showering, brushing my teeth. After that acid trip I have been a completely straight and narrow Joe type of guy. I even wake up at 5 a.m. every day now. I have no interest in taking acid again, I do not intend to reverse the stability I finally have.
