I wish you could build a traditional house like that in Finland but the Government requlations demand insulation and building materials to be more modern and synthetic. Over all If you build it all up to demanded government specs you'll have depending on luck 5-20 years before the whole house must be renovated and practically constructed again due to mold.

At the same time houses build before 1960s seem to be mostly mold free and if properly renovated can be rather comfortable to live even by modern standards.
>>
>>756870
Why do they have to be synthetic?
>>
>>756881
Don't really know but I could make a educated guess that major suppliers are involved..
>>
>>756898
Probably, as much as people say "Muh forests!" at least wood products are sustainable if you practice forestry correctly.
>>
>>756902
Now I remembered something! It has to do with the greenparty demanding houses to be more "energy efficient" which means that you can't use natural materials that breath since that would make the house lose warmth during winter the molding problem stems from the same fact of synthetic materials not breathing. All humidity as well as warmth remains inside the house making it a perfect environment for molds to grow and thanks to this you have to build a new house every ten years. Doesn't seem that green to me but these urban yuppyhippies don't know shit about nature which they're so fanatically protecting..

Check out Roy Underhill. He does smaller woodworking projects but his 20ish year long tv career has some stuff like this in there

That's really more of a barn then it is a cabin.. and nothing shown in this video is really that impressive, to someone who doesn't know better I guess it might look impressive.

if you like this sort of thing, check out this little unknown gem. [not me]

What does a DIY film have in common with a porn film?
I find my self skipping through these vids and getting to the money shot at the end.

I'm somewhat handy and I think that buying some land and building a small cabin would really be a cool hobby.

But then it seems like after it's built, the whole thing becomes this burden. Taxes need to be paid on the lot, I'd have to go out there to check up on it, what if there's squatters?

Anyone else feel this way? I guess I could sell it off afterward maybe, but would anyone want to buy an amateur-constructed cabin?

Simple. Don't tell anyone you're building it. Buy a plot of land and build it discreetly somewhere, so it's difficult to spot. Use materials from your land only and try to avoid having a road access to your house. That way any busybodies won't be tempted to snoop around and you get to be the king of your own land.
>>

After watching the video, I feel like they had prior knowledge of the building techniques. Of course the video is edited, and we're seeing the "best of", It doesn't seem like amateur construction. At least not in the video. I'm not sure about taxes, of course ( assuming USA) you'd have to pay sales tax, I'm not sure about utilities they used, wether they had electricity installed or pluming. If it was remote enough, and if their occupying it the majority of the year I assume squatting wouldn't be an issue, assuming you're not in the south where meth addicts reside.
>>
>>758308
Also, it does seem like it's there permanent residence, so selling and squatters would not be an issue. I found this video both inspiring and motivating to build a house like this. It's easy to subscribe to this idea, but harder to put it into action. I'm sure it take a lot of time learning the know-how to build such a structure and a lot of "hootspa"!
>>
>>757839
Just claim ignorance.
>>
>>758309
>hootspa
chutzpah.
>>
>>756870
Not Finland, but here in Norway cabins for vacation purposes don't have to conform to the same material/isolation standards as residential houses. If the same applies in Finland maybe you could buy a plot of land, build your house and classify it as a cabin to avoid the "energy efficiency" standards?

Get the Sons of Odin to beat up those bureaucrats and take your liberty back.
>>
>>758443
Lel, Soldiers of Odin are a pathetic bunch of failures. I don't want people who are convicted of violence and rape to patrol the streets in order to "make them safe".

The members in Soldiers of Odin have poor impulse control and band together in order to make themselves feel important and successful.
