The idea is to make it home, so I'd want to attract rescue at the earliest opportunity. The 10k and passport would be more than enough to get me home from almost anywhere in the world.

I think that those 3 items would at least ensure your immediate survival. Within the first 24 hours or something. So, next I would try to pick something that would increase my chance of discovery by other people, since 8 out of 10 are likely to be largely uninhabited.

I dont know which communication item would be the best for any different situation, cause I dont know enough about VHF radios or cellphones (probably depends on the type of cellphone also) Might be a good subject to read up on, just in case. Also just considering to fall back on a flare gun.

Well shit, I think I might do alright. I'll have to forage for food after some time. I wear a knife on my belt literally every day, do I get to keep that as well? The belt itself will be helpful. I can rip some of the loops off of my pack and take the laces out of whichever pair of footwear in not using, giving me cordage to hang the poncho. If I go hungry I can make my food last longer, I'm starting to get a bit of a belly that I could stand to lose anyway. My watch is a good enough compass for someone without a map, you're just going to want to make sure you stay going the same direction.

New guinea highlands.

I'm aiming to find the north shore of the island - more numerous settlements there. When I get there, I can pay my way home by boat and by air with relative ease.

Once I can tell I'm on the northern descent of the highlands, I'm looking to find a river that I can follow to the sea. There's a river in every valley, so this bit isn't hard.

Worst case scenario, I have to walk 650km. Once my rations are gone, I'll be on a river that I can use for water and food (I'll have to make my own line and hooks as demonstrated by uncle Ray, find my own bait which shouldn't be too hard in rainforest).

Water could be a problem. In such a nutrient rich environment it's likely to have some nasty bacteria in it. While I'm still at high altitude I'll drink from the rivers. Before I descend I'll have to invest time in building fire (machete, make cord, bow and drill - this will probably take about 8 hours total. I've only succeeded at this once before). From the fire I'll make charcoal. I'll make a funnel with broad leaves, crush up the charcoal, use sand/pebbles on top and use that to filter water directly into my mouth, unless there's any packaging in my rations that I can use to improvise a water vessel.

By day 2 I've definitely started my hike. It's likely that I'll encounter a settlement along the river, but worst case scenario I have a 650km hike to endure. My rations and water filter can get me there, but it'll fucking suck. It should take me 7-14 days to find civilisation, and then about another week to get myself home using the 10k.

Water is almost everywhere except the desert which I'd just filter my piss or find a oasis.
Fish are almost everywhere too, got food covered.
Rifle also for food and any dangerous animal or people.
Lighter to cook food and for fire to keep warm at night.
Navigation materials not needed because once you find a river or shoreline you're almost home free.
