That particular design isn't very good. If it had larger holes in the top it'd work well enough for cooking though it would need some holes around the top of the side if you were to use pots/pans with it. If you are just making a fire for fire's sake then it is fine I suppose.
>>
>>753276
the idea is to cook with it since during summer is really dangerous making a fire where I live.

Then use a slightly different design. Note the size of the holes in this can and their placement. This allows lots of air flow to the fire and any pots or pans won't block the airflow at the top.

Slow Sunday, eh anon?
But thanks, that a nice paint job and I kekd with that fucking behind the bushes
>>
>>753308
lol Yeah rain and nothing to do inside.
>>
>>753278
Just about any can with holes in it will work.
>>
>>753268
wouldn't all that metal on the top act like a heat sink and cause your cooking to take longer?
>>
>>753296
Please add optimum wind direction and ways of controlling fire to picture. Missing too many key components. HELP!
>>
>>753268
You can make hobo stoves that are actually good, unlike the one on your pic. Rocket stoves work really well.

That isn't a rocket stove. Rocket stoves are much taller. However, the short ones work well for cooking. They are just suety as fuck, like every other hobo stove.
>>
>>753612

Suety? They taste like mutton fat?

Did you mean smokey? If you've done it properly there should be little to no smoke at all.
>>
>>755003
sooty

>If you've done it properly there should be little to no smoke at all.

Nope, all those "rocket stoves" are too short for their to be a proper burn of flue gases. Don't confuse a rocket stove with a woodgas stove. That latter recirculates the flue gases through the side walls then back up, reheating it to the point of combustion. A rocket stove uses the tall length of the insulated flue to achieve the same thing but at a lesser efficiency.

99% of the "rocket stoves" you see made from tin cans are merely just an insulated hobo stove.
>>
>>755013

Re-read the post I was responding to.
>>
>>755019
Why? I wrote it. The reason a real rocket stove doesn't have soot is because they are tall enough to allow the flue gases to heat up tot he point of a more complete burn. All the ones you find when searching "tin can rocket stove" are too short to actually do that when loaded with fuel.

The main problem is that no one wants a real rocket stove because they are too tall and bulky for /out/ purposes. However, they like calling them a rocket stove because "cool factor".

Three cans a pair of tin snips, pliers and, a bar key. The top can comes out and nests in the bottom. It lasted multiple trips and a friend asked to have it when I moved. He used it until I built a better one for him out of a wine cozy.
>>
>>755023

Not talking about rocket stoves, fagnuts
>>
>>755802

The top part looks like some kind of angry fire god with three eyes

>FEED ME, FAGGOT
>>
>>753594
Sort of, but since the fuel for a hobo stone is inherently free, the point is to spread the heat so the cooking surface heats more evenly.

I don't know if it makes that much of a difference honestly, but that's the theory behind it.
>>
>>755806
The soot is from improper burn of flue gases. Which is something that plagues short "rocket stoves". It puts the pot/pan into the zone of the fire. Proper rocket stoves' flames will stop short of actually touching the pot/pan.

No need to get salty, kid.
>>
>>755835

>still with the rocket stoves

I'll just leave the conversation here and let you continue talking to yourself

God I can't believe someone kept pictures of it from that woodgas thread like a year or more ago. Hers the ass end of the new one it's a little heavier but it will last forever and I figured out how to give it stabilizers and a grill.

It's just a way of keeping your fire contained. It werks better than if you use the same tiny ass twigs by themselves in an open fire.

Kek
>>

Yeah you "told" that other anon alright... a bunch of nonsensical bullshit.

Do you even understand English?
>>
>>756610
It was soaking wet at the time. There was zero chance of any of that catching or holding a flame. I had to strip dead branches for wood that could burn.

empty power supplies look promising
>>
>>757055
These things are so small and light you can actually store your twig fuel in the stove when hiking around and it won't be much extra weight at all.
>>
>>757070
They do, but they won't last all that long. They rust out and are flimsy. Like tin cans they are good in a pinch.
>>
>>757072
yeah, forgot to think about that.
at least this one should last until i find something to replace it with
>>
I've been tinkering with a stainless steel tall cookie tin, going to see how it holds up. Might post pics if I can be arsed.
>>
>>757106
Pls do man
>>
>>757106
Yeah pls tell us how it went
>>
>>757106
I find that placing something thick in the bottom where the hot coals rest greatly extends the life of the stove. In a pinch that can be loose soil, sand, etc. Though it is better to have a plate or cup of metal you can easily and cheaply replace. Something as simple as a soup can lid can help a great deal.
>>
>>753296
Kek, he looks so happy
>>
>>753268
I use a ghetto soda can alcohol stove.
>free to make
>uses any type of liquid fuel

Anyone make one of these?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz4E6wQO-PE

I'm going to attempt one this week.
>>
>>761521
That will be cool to make but I don't have any tools or experience

I tried making a more permanent version of a tin can stove out of a cheap walmart SS cup. Doesn't perform as well as my tin can stove so looks like it's time to do some tweaking
