I think what would spook me the most about that whale hunt is the idea of hopping in water that bloody and wondering if the sharks have arrived yet.

It is easy to say.

Doesn't make it wrong though. I've met men in Mexico who catch sharks for just the fins. I've talked to them about how it's done and all that. I've seen their run-down houses and the conditions they work under, spending two days and nights out in a small open boat tens of miles offshore. Doesn't make what they do and the markets that support it any less destructive and unsustainable. Anyway, those same little guys are the ones who get fucked when the fishery totally fails. The Chinese dealers running the trade will just retire fat.

The thing about first world people who kill animals like bears is that they do it for fun, not to feed a whole community. Killing sharks for their fins and discarding the rest of the animal is senseless, I agree.
