Hopin mah nigga Bo wakes up early tomorrow so we can hit some lakes and I can get him on a better tackle box or bag than the big Adidas box he is currently using. Gotta try out some lakes I have been scoping out while working. I need to catch a peacock bass eventually.

Talk about fishin'
>>
trout season open here tomorrow, not goin to rush out in the morning but il probably fish for pickerel tomorrow day, a nd tomorrow night try for some eels/catfish
>>

That sounds awful trying to fish a popular stocked lake on the first day of the season.

the river will be packed tomorrow, and if i do decide to o to the river il wear my hat from when i worked for the state, and spook some folks trying to keep more then their limit

Fuck off, Winter. It actually wouldn't be so bad if not for the wind. Sunday looks more promising. Might take tomorrow to stop by Dick's and see if they've any more Keitechs or anything else that catches my eye as a potential swimjig trailer.
>>
alright you guys, tomorrow is opening day for trout season, should i try to get up and out in the morning on the shore? should i bring my kayak, its going to be chilly and access to the part of the river i want to fish its a pain in the ass to carry my kayak over a bunch of rocky shit , should i go pickerel and bass fishing again? either way i think im going to o to the river after dark and soak some baits for catfish and eels
>>
>>734403
anyone pls, i cant decide
>>
>>734391
As long as they leave my guns knives and fishing gear alone it should work fine. If I get any good at fly fishing I could probably kill that river. I can cast decent distances I just need to figure out how to not wind knot constantly. I think I have an idea but I need to play around some more in the yard.
>>
>>734419
ye, and no you couldnt kill the river, theres a TON of people who fish, and fly fish in the river and alot of people wh o keep it, one of the reason we stock so many fish the 10 k fish is in about a 1-2 mile stretch of river,

>I'll make a pvc fixture that temporarily converts my 7 weight single hand rod into a spey rod?

That's not a spey rod, that's just a rod with a nigger-rigged fighting butt. But it would probably make spey casting a bit easier.

>Dumb idea or just crazy enough to work?
Extremely dumb. Spey rods are a whole other animal from single-handed rods; they're much longer, much beefier and have a different taper (and different terminal tackle) to throw a very short and very heavy fly line a very long way with very little effort. A 10wt could probably throw your mom 50 yards without breaking a sweat, and that's saying something.

What you should probably do is do more working and less fishing until you can afford actual fishing gear; everyone's currently excite over the season starting but there are still probably six months of good fishing left and the best of the year doesn't even start until July.
>>
>>734352
Hey, does anybody here have a subscription with the lucky tackle box people? Is it worth it? I'm thinking about getting the trout box for a month or two to see if it feels like christmas everytime I get a new lure.

i am going to go to canadian tire and gear some basic fishing gear.

i have not fished in years, nor have i prepared a fish.

any basic advice on rod and various bait items that mix it up?

i plan on fishing from shore, just lakes.

if anyone has a good tutorial on prep link it pls

peps has a write-up he copy/pastas or types out every time. Looked at the last few threads and couldn't find it. I'll defer to his lazy ass when he gets back from his morning circle jerk at the lake.
>>
>>734559
I really need to save that and make it pasta

>>734485
Basically 6'6" medium weight rod with a reel that will hole ~150yds of 8lb or 10lb mono. Then hooks, split shots, bobbers, and nightcrawlers.

See what you are catching with the worms and learn how everything works then you can try a couple lures fit for whatever you catch at your lakes.

Pretty much this >>734575
They don't cast it off the reel. They lay the line out like that and then fly fish. Not sure if she's doing it right, but it is one of the few qt's that looks like she knows.
>>
>>734575
i get that but it seem like TOO much line is out and it got into a mess
>>
>>734579
>i get that but it seem like TOO much line is out and it got into a mess

An accomplish fly caster with a quality rod can cast 50-60 ft. Need to have 50-60 ft line unreeled in front of you for that. The line has a texture that keeps it (usually) from tangling.
>>
>>734579
Looks like she's just at the end of her presentation and about to cast again but when you're fly fishing 20 yard casts are not particularly difficult and a 15 yard length of line really seems to pile up

First attempt at Landlock Salmon tomorrow. Apparently smelt run up the tribs overnight and the Salmon are there in 10-15 fow near stream mouths waiting when they return in the morning. I guess I'll use these stinger spoons I picked up to troll in my canoe, maybe try some jerkbaits. Pretty much using bass fishing gear.
>>
>>734571
She's fly fishing.
It's a whole other theory of fishing where the line is heavy and the lures (flies) are small and light. So to cast your farthest, you need to already have as much of the heavy line outside of your rod tip as you can.
She's setting up for a cast, and having that much backing outside the reel ensures that all the fly line will be outside the rod tip, allowing maximum casting distance.

Being as it's prime time trout season for much of the US, most anglers are getting out there with their fly rods. How many of you go trout fishing with a rod and reel? If so, what tackle do you prefer?
I've never used a fly rod and have been trout fishing since I was a kid. I have most of my luck with buck-tail spinners and Powerbait molded to small hooks with a bobber (when time permits). I also use small spoons and crank-baits but tend to not have as much luck with those.
Pic related, a Rainbow I caught on a local lake with a buck-tail spinner.

Depends on the time of year, but yeah. Lots of people like to fish for them with massive topwater flies and it's exciting as hell because you can actually see the wake from the pike chasing down your fly and the takes are HUGE.

Pretty fish m8. I've been slaying trout in an obscure part of cali for 15 years, and have not yet started fly fishing. I like 6lb mono with a 2lb flouro leader for the big browns in my area. Bobber and worm rigs are always a go to, but I also have a lot of luck gold/orange spoons, and the vibrax minnow spin by Blue Fox is my secret weapon for pig browntrout
>>
>>734645
also nice fish BTW.
They mostly love my sinking Rap this time of year. Water temp is still < 50F so their slow. Almost there... Over 50 I can start tossing spinner (Mepps, Blue Fox, Panthers)
real worms on 1 rod, Lure on the 2nd.

got skunked hard today at the first spot.

too much pressure on the water way I think. saw over 20 people at the river today, fucking nuts.

did catch some brookies in a nice still water setting, but nothing to really post video about.
>>
>>734820
That sucks. I would just find another lake or river if I saw that many people.

Just got done fishin with my guy. Went to 3 different lakes and I got a small bass and a small Mayan and he didn't get shit. It's sunny but not too hot. Must be a high pressure system or whatever makes the fish lazy. Also not the greatest timing since we started around 10:30am and went til 4:30pm. If we woulda stayed out a few hours more til dusk, I bet we could get some decent largemouth.

I just wanted to see him get a decent bass because he's kinda new to fishing. Needs to get his confidence up. I just enjoyed being outside all day since the weather is beautiful.

Total newb here. Bought a new rod thanks to an anon's suggestion, got a 6ft Shimano Sellus rod/reel combo on sale for 25% off.

I had never spooled a reel before today. Basically just flipped the bail, slipknot the reel, return the bail, and started slowly reeling in line while keeping it fairly taught.

However, I went to cast about 30 mins later and the shit constantly unspooled too much line. Also, I'd get this unsmooth bobble feeling as I was reeling in line.

I'm hoping I didn't do anything wrong and this shitty 8lb wal-mart line is just high-memory and it needs to sit a few days on the reel to be okay?
>>
>>734792
>Basketball Amerifags

The only people besides Eastern Yuros and old white dudes who can wear socks and sandals and get away with it. I would never wear that shit out in public unless I had to run to 7-11 at 2am for cigs. Even then I wouldn't wear the socks because socks are purposely made for when you gotta wear real shoes.
>>
>>734687
Wow, I've never seen that particular lure before. Might just have to invest in a few.
>>
>>734832
That's the exact same combo dude I was just with owns. They are nice. I actually added more line to the spool for him today since he only had it like 70% full and it was casting like shit. Same problem as you had happened to him first cast. Too much line. Ripped 10yds off and it was fine.

Those spools are decieving because of that angled part of the lip. I went almost all the way to the angled lip on the top of the spool. Cut off a bit so maybe 2mm of the flat part of the spool was showing and it was fine.
>>
>>734832
Shitty line leads to shitty casts. Get trilene big game next time. High quality and cheap. Just spool it on decently tight. You may have over spooled it as well. Leave 1/8" empty space on the spool. Also, a freshly spooled reel takes a dozen casts and retrieves to break in. The line will lay itself evenly with use.
>>
>>734841
>>734844
Thanks for the help. I think I'm going to toss all this line, and just respool it taught and let it sit for a few days, then just stick with it to break it in. Right now it's almost unusable in how much it unspools at a time.

I really like the feel of the rod and reel though.
>>
>>734832
What brand line is it btw. Other anon here >>734844 is also right about cheap generic line. But you may have spooled too much as well. Co-worker who I was with today has Suffix mono so shitty line wasn't the issue. Braid wouldn't do that though.
>>
>>734845

there usually are people there, everyone is cool though. no one really fishes over you and everyone is open for a chat. the stretch is almost 1.3 miles from the dam to the still water bend, It was stocked a few days ago, so a lot of people were there. In the summer you can catch trout and small mouth on the same stretch, in the fast clear water. Saw a few salmon, but didn't see too many of the stocked fish. I didn't see a soul catch a thing today. The green part of the line is the weighted section that helps carry the fly, the yellow is a narrower diameter and still floats but does not have the weight to move a fly. Beyond that (still on her reel) is backing that will let fish run up to another few hundred yards.
April Vokey is pretty well known in fly fishing and does talks and shit. She's openly admitted she's not the best caster, probably among other things, but she does a good job of getting shallow virgins into the sport.

I feel ya on that. I'm glad this dude from work is down to go bass fishing on Saturdays, but it's hard to setup a 5:30am sunrise session with him. Sometimes I can get my brother to go out for a little bit but he isn't around much between school and work. He should be on summer break soon, but he has some internship like an hour away so I doubt he will want to do much. Maybe on weekends in the summer I can get him out there.

Dick's seems to be one of the cheapest for Power Pro even when it isn't on sale. I think they normally want $27.99 for a 300yd spool while Bass Pro and Cabela's want around $33.

hello /out/ 1st time here (/k/tard and /pol/ack)

anyone have experience throwing a drop shot in shallow rivers for rainbow and brown trout?

I've been using eggs and inline spinners with great success but I want to be able to see how a drop shot would work out for me in the times when they become more lazy.

The river can be strong at times so I'm thinking of going up to a 1/4" oz weight

What are those for? Some snap swivel type thing?

And at Dick's today I was looking at a couple different swivels besides the traditional snaps and wasn't quite sure what to look for. They have the all wire ones that look like a paperclip almost and maybe some more. I need to look a lil better at Bass Pro, dude I was with was ready to go before he spent more money on stuff.

We still need to find him a better tackle box beyond his Adidas shoe box but he has been setting up this aquarium lately too and wasn't trying to spend more money. Dick's had a Spider Wire one for $25 that includes 3x 3600 boxed and that would be perfect for dude and he could probably add 2 more boxes.

appreciate it

btw the pic was only of a raceway where they raised a bunch of the brown trout in a hatchery to be released, its not an area that the fish are released from nor an area where the fish can swim up to (but otters do love to feast there causing havoc--currently dealt with)

I have some 1" nymphs that I've always wanted to try, also
Also to any bass fishers out there

I just recently got a shimano sellus (yeah i know im cheap) extra fast action m/h baitcasting rod and was wondering if I should even consider trying to punch through some vegetation. I'm sure it could handle some light vegetation but does anyone have an recommendations that I should expect to face or when I should say no to throwing a lure out into certain areas with a rod like this

I'd like to know some limitations in not basically braking my rod since I've only ever used medium baitcasting rods before (still kinda inexperienced with them (though I no longer get backlashes)
>>
>>735057
I'm definitely going to grab some and try them out. I kinda want to find something more low-profile since with 20lb braid, I will toss anything from big crankbaits and spinners to smaller Rapalas and 2" soft plastics and the larger, stronger snap swivels stand out too much on little stuff in clear water.

Or just make sure you run weedless if you go through big lillies. Even then, sometimes you can still get a hook in the stalk if it hits it just right. If it's a big lilly and you aren't running like 40lb braid, you might as well cut your losses and try to break the line.

double drop shot for rivers.

I use this for nymphing but you could use the same method in moving shallow water with worms or other baits.

3-4 inches between each drop shot then 10-18 inches from the hook depending on how low you want the nymph.

the drop shots split like this will allow the weights and hook to bounce, and move each other along. you get less hang ups this way. I've used this method with san jaun worms, so I'd imagine it would work really well with a live worm.

Ikejime, but to have any measure of success on the average trout you'd have to git gud in a big way.

On salmon freezer-trollers they just use the standard stun-then-gaff approach but those gaff clubs pretty much do the same thing less delicately IMO; any deckhand on a salmon boat knows that there's a sweet spot on the fish's head that will produce instant and final death and since the fish are headed anyway there's no need to keep things pretty like the japs do with their tuna.

We might not be the best but at least we are helpful. Pepsi contributes excellent content, is quick to help people, and is always open to good conversation.

I personally have only really been fishing for about a year now. And that's saying something.

Trips were made on this website for small satellite communities that arise on these wonderful boards. If you don't like it, filter the tripfags and move on. (Filters were made for this reason)

If you have some tips to help us improve our fishing by all means please contribute. I can always use input to help myself improve.

I used to fish a lot when I was younger but probably stopped around Jr. HS and then picked up again about 3 years ago.

And if you are serious about the Mepps, I have no idea. You can still find almost all the color combos if you look around. Just some of them are hard to find if you don't buy one of the kits. I do have some Abu Garcia inline spinners, no idea how old they are. They are ~1/8oz and have interesting blades with little holes and shapes stamped into them.

Cool. I haven't gotten it yet. We'll see. Hopefully I get my box by next weekend but USPS is strange when shipping to South Florida. Packages either come really fast like 2-3 days, or they take a week and a half. I have a feeling that if I'm lucky and there is a plane going to Miami with a little extra room, they just toss the package on there. If not, they just shuffle it from truck to truck until it finally makes it here.

>>735447
I was thinking about that. I have some 2" Storm shads that have the treble hook on the bottom too and it's not always a good thing. I like running those lures in weedy spots specifically because they don't hang up much so I think I'm definitely going to rip the treble off at least one of those bluegill.

I think the largemouth here probably spawned already though. They were real hungry in like January and early February and I'm guessing that was pre-spawn and then it dropped off for a bit last month.

In my experience, drop shotting is for hitting deep areas. Could you catch on a really shallow drop shot rig? Maybe, but it isn't the intended purpose of the rig.

Anyway the generals are when trips actually make sense. It is part Q&A, part blogging about what you caught.

If you're going to talk shit about it, at least do it when I ask metal detector bro if he found anything cool. It makes no sense to trip in that situation, but I'm not going to keep taking it on and off just to please you.

So here is the conclusion I've come to on my 7 weight since upon closer inspection my 5/6 weight is fucked.
Its too heavy to be good for anything but not heavy enough to be good for anything so I'm just going to pretend that 7 is actually a 5 when I'm fishing for smaller stuff then I'm going to pretend it says 8 while I'm fishing for anything of size and eventually either I'll break it and retire it or I'll buy something like a 5 wt for panfish to trout and bass and eventually an 8 or 9 wt for steelhead, salt, pike/Muskie, etc and let the 7 weight sit on the wall as a show piece.
Also in regard to the trolls before I was a trip fag I was a name fag and before that I was an anonymous fag and before that I was a lurking New fag and before that I was just a filthy normie fag

In short you're a fag regardless so you might as well embrace it

So I need some advice from the pros. Went to try this new lake I was scoping out and it's real similar to some of the other man made lakes in the area. There is a flat area near shore, and then a steep rocky drop about 10' out. Very little vegetation. How would you guys fish here for bass?

day was crappy to go fishing. Nice and sunny but imposible to cast due to the wind and temperatures in the low 40s... Where is spring at!
>>
>>735591
Yeah I was runnin a medium diver for a bit but nothing great. There was another lake across the street that looked better, but there is only one side to fish from where I wouldn't be in somebody's backyard and a strong wind was coming right at me. I did get some cichlid nibbles at that first lake.

>>735574
These ones, of which we are on #26, I did start. There was no "Fishing General" for a little bit before I started these.

>When I started these "Fishing & Tackle" Threads, there was no "Fishing General" and hadn't been for a bit before I did so.

That is simply false. There has always been a fishing general you newfag. Lurk more and post less.
>>
>>735572
I'd run either a topwater or a crank bait. Cast as sideways as you can and run it right outside the drop off and then back on to the shallow flat.
>>
>>735561
7wt is just fine for trophy trout, small salmon, bass (LMB and SMB), pickerel and small pike - as well as many of the smaller saltwater species, including bonefish. Stop being a fag.
>>
>>735645
Too windy for good topwater fishin today. But I have had luck with poppers in the AM at lakes with similar drop offs. Maybe I just need to get them at the right feeding time when they will actually pay attention to it. And sometimes running smaller cranks or spinners, I can coax those Mayans to come up from right by the drop off.

This lake I'm at now is too windy. Debating whether I should try one more lake down the street for 30min before it gets dark or just cruise home.

>>735648

>There hadn't been a consistent one going for some time

Bullshit. There has always been a consistent fishing general you fucking liar.
>>
>>735449
To me it means you know of at least ONE way to catch some of the fish swimming in the waters around you.

I would argue that the lady in your example is a more well-rounded fisherman than the trophy hunter, and the fly fisherman likewise has more depth of specialized knowledge than the dabbler, but it's all fishing.
To me, the 6-year-old who can catch. fish with a bobber and worms knows how to fish too. I may know more ways to catch them than he does, but in the end we both have critters hanging off of our hooks, and that's what matters.
>>
>>735648
Alright here is my plan revised
I'll push the 7 wt down as needed and run it as high as I feel comfortable
Some day I'll get a 4/5 wt for smaller stuff so I don't have to feel like I'm using stupid heavy gear for small fish (because a 7wt is wayyyyyy overkill for the crappie spawn) then some day get a 9at
The 4/5 wt will be for panfish and trout
The 7 wt will be for steelhead bass and similar
The 9 wt will be for trophy steelhead pike and Muskie, and I bet I could get some reasonable flounder, bluefish, Spanish macks, and similar in the salt.

I would at least shoot them an email. Claim USPS says they returned the package to them or something. If they have halfway decent customer service, they won't hesitate to send you a new one.

Years back when those Keurig coffee makers were the rage and cost like $200, my mom ordered one for my sister for Christmas. I ended ip grabbing the package from the doorstep and putting it in her bedroom. Like a month later she asked me if I had seen any packages and I said nothing has come lately. Amazon or wherever she bought it from sent her a new one and she finally saw the first one a couple days later.

What ones? I still gotta try more of them. I think I bought 5 or total. 2 dressed and the rest bare. The #3 with the silver blade and chartruese bead has been tied to one rod since the day I bought it.

I normally have snap swivels on my lines because I change out lures a lot, but there is always an inline tied on for good. Normally a Mepps #2 or #3 with a brown skirt and gold or silver blade. Snakeheads seem to like the noise that Blue Fox makes though.

For panfish you can easily get by with a dinky little 3-4wt. combo that they sell at sporting goods stores. You don't need a good reel, good rod or even good fly line to catch panfish.

http://www.cabelas.com/product/copper-river-fly-combo/2145897.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ffly-fishing-rod-reel-combos%2F_%2FN-1102570%2FNo-0%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_105571980%3FrecordsPerPage%3D18&No=0

Model number 906-4
That will cover them pretty well.
For flies I'd Google "top 10 flies for *insert your area* trout" or better yet talk to some people and find out what to use and when. Though if you want a general thing to go to small wooly buggers on a dead drift are a reasonable do-all

that was the worst one because that was the first time I hooked up to something between the two dams [1/4 apart from each dam] so I was excited to see what lived in that section; but couldn't set the hook.

During my trek today I came across these two dudes in the woods. From afar it sounded like beavers working, but lo and behold these two dudes were making camps near the river getting ready for the summer.

>pic related

They had some awesome shelters built, the one with pine bows had a nice pit oven, seating, and was roomy as fuck. then they had a few frames setup for 3 more shelters. I was fully impressed; excited to see their progress over the next few weeks, might even camp there myself if no one is around.
