True story from when I was a kid. Not the creepiest thing in the world, but freaked me right the fuck out.

>be at a friends house
>he's a bit older than me and kinda cocky
>lives in the woods but has a big clearing for a backyard
>usually we'd go back to the edge of the clearing and crawl in under the brush and play around in the woods. Lots of cool stuff in there like old campfires, a partially buried volkswagen beetle, and old toys, and beer cans.
>we usually played around this old burnt out campfire just a few yards past the edge of the clearing and fought each other with sticks, or played with matches, or whatever out of sight from the prying eyes of adults
>don't think we ever bothered going further in at that spot
>we reach the edge of the clearing, crawl under some thorns, I was in front, and just as I came out from under the thorns, and the campfire became visible I see a dark figure.
>it's broad daylight and standing behind the fire pit is a tall completely black silhoute from head to toe
>we both freak the fuck out and run back to the house as fast as we can and tell his mom
>I have no idea what I just saw l, and the only way I'm able to describe it to his mom is to tell her that someone dressed like darth vader was hanging out back in the woods.
>>
>>703232
Only other one I got is pretty dumb but almst made me shit my pants

>walking home after an icestorm
>snow on the ground is all iced over
>just behind my house there's a row of evergreens, a stream, and the rest is open field
>only sound is my footsteps in the snow which lets out an unsettling crunch crunch whenever I lift my feet making it sound like someone is walking directly behind me.
>turn around a few times just to check since I had cut through someone elses property and knew I shouldn't have
>hit the first evergreen in the row
>I'm home free
>stop to look at the sky which was this crazy color pattern
>total dead silence
>suddenly hear a deafening noise so loud it was like standing in front of a loud speaker at a concert
>crack crack KABOOM!
>whip around towards the noise
>suddenly the evergreen next to me explodes with crows
>a huge swarm of them all fly out of this tree at the same time, cawing, quickly forming a flock, and flying away.
>I decide to jog home

This one was a good read. Thanks, Anon.

So back in 2003 I was on my 1st deployment to Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division. We formed the Recon Platoon. We would set up ambushes along the Afghanistan/ Pakistan Boarder and jump people trying to smuggle in weapons and equipment. One such goat path even the Taliban won't use, but we were going to find out. In our mission brief we called it Route 66. And label villages as checkpoints of cities along the route our dismount was checkpoint Chicago, 1st village was Checkpoint Springfield, halfway point was village Amarillo, and destination was Checkpoint L.A.
> we are doing our dismount patrol
> would be rucking 20 or so miles and along the way pass a few villages and gather Intel
> 1st village checkpoint Springfield all is well, locals tell us Taliban no longer uses this path, not after the Russians
> we play soccer with the kids
> we proceed ahead after resting for about an hour
> on the second village checkpoint Amarillo just 10 miles from the boarder the locals are very skidish
> nervous and afraid
> We all assume it's because of the Taliban threats
> no, no Taliban they reassure us
> kids are nowhere to be seen
> go on with the village elder's son as our guide of checkpoint Amarillo to Checkpoint L.A., the next village
> Checkpoint L.A. is deserted.
> not one soul
> Village elder's son of checkpoint Amarillo actually takes off running back the other way
> fuck us they lead us into an Ambush
> fan out around the village
> check homes
> all empty
> like everyone knew we were coming
> we patrol the outskirts and find a very narrow goat path going up a steep mountain side going up
> painted on a rock at the start of the path in spray painted in Arabic and under that Russian with a skull and cross bones
> our translator tells us is means “Demon Home”
> Platoon leader want to send a team in to investigate
> I am on the team as the overall leader
>>
>>704037
> late evening, sun is setting
> we trek maybe a mile into the path before it's dark as night
> switch to NVG's
> guy in front trips
> he gets up and looks down and pick up a rifle
> rusty AK-74 and mags and spend brass all around
> radio in we found some weapons
> investigate further
> spot a PK machine gun belt is empty
> russian helmet next to it
> no bodies
> just guns fired dry and dropped
> something fucky is going on here
> hear the sound of loose rocks falling down the cliff all around us
> start to hear random voices and raspy giggling
> we hold our possession and take cover
> I take off my NVG's just so I can see down the sites with what little daylight we have
> guy behind me with the SAW opened fire screaming
> I turn around and see this thing duck behind some boulders
> pale gray skin, long thin waist length gray hair, and these arms that would make an NBA player jealous
> and it wore rags, literal rags as if trying to play itself off as human
> then hear the giggling again
> DUST THIS BITCH!
> fire on burst
> I don't care what it is, I don't want to know, all I know is I want it dead
> SAW is blasting it's belt
> I unpack my Mossberg 590 and eject the tungsten slugs for door breeching and load with buckshot
> radio is chattering about what we are shooting at back at the village
> PUMP
> Spot a shadow of black
> BOOM!
> PUMP
> I see the thing buckle
> I hit the fucker!
> it lets out a howl
> very raspy loud howl
> then it get right back up and jumps again
> it is running around us jumping from boulder to boulder giggling as we dump ammo at it
> radio to the village we are pulling out
> no reply
> Hold your fire!
> alright fuck this
> get the fuck out of here
> We do a tactical withdrawl still firing at anywhere we see moment
> the entire time I can hear it giggling and howling as it fallows us
> then it stops.
>>
>>704038
> we meet up with the rest of the platoon
> "What the fuck was going on in there? Did you see something? What were you shooing at?"
> I, shaking like a leaf as I try to smoke a cigarette answer.
> “What ever it was, it's not human, and it's fast, fucking fast.”
> my entire platoon sees me and the team just shaking
> they give us a pass on night watch
> I have been in 8 fire fight prior to this, and this had me scared
> to the bones scared
> I stayed up all night weapon at the ready in a mud hut pointed at the door
> we spend the night at the village on stake out
> night watch reported the sounds of a child crying, then that raspy giggling
> in the morning we send 2 teams up to investigate
> they come back 4 hours later
> they found the ambush sight
> and bring back some of the rusted shut weapons we came across last night
> then one of them says “We found a pool of liquid that smelled like a rotting corpse and had the consistency and color of old motor oil.”
> “What were you guys shooting at again?”
> we don't say a thing
> when we reach checkpoint Amarillo the elder is surprised we are all alive, and that the last group of soldier who went in were never heard from again.
> when was that?
> elder says 1986
> get back to command at the FOB
> “You guys see any insurgents come through?”
> Nope.”
> Then what was all that radio traffic of you guy having contact?”
> just chasing shadows sir... we found some weapons...
> everyone in the platoon knew we fought something and tried to get us to tell
> through the rest of the deployment me and the 4 man team that went to first investigate never spoke a word about what we fought in there.
> I am the only one who ever spoke about it

Sweeeet. I read another story about a soldier in the middle east doing a house to house sweep for weapons/insurgents etc.

They go into a house that someone reported loud noises. after breaking down the door and they find a man there with half his limbs missing all bloody and screaming. They have a translator with them and when he tries to ask the guy wtf happened translator says he just keeps screaming, "the devil, the devil"

They've probably been in the house less than a minute when a huge black hairy mass emerges from a hole in the wall a couple inches wide and grabs the man and pulls him screaming and yelling INTO the wall. Whole squad magdumps but the thing just disappears. Left with nothing but ringing ears, a shot-to-shit wall and tons of the guy's blood.

Not sure if the creature or whatever it was bled. I say it was a jinn both they and you encountered. Spooky shit, man. I appreciate you telling your story.

Happened at me at Kelso Dunes in the Mojave Desert, California.

>Sunrise hike at the dunes, solo
>not another soul around
>Have my fun, hike back down. Reach base of dunes
>Turn around, see figure standing where I just was
>Turn back to parking lot a mile away, no other cars there, still just mine
>No other way to get to the dunes, other side is forever flat desert
>Stand there watching the clearly humanoid figure, get the feeling it is watching me back
>Get incredible uneasy, run mile back to car
>Turn around, see figure still there, I get in car and lock car and try to take photo, but beyond my phone capabilities
>Figure walks way down the other side of the mountain

Threw my car in gear and booked it.

"nugget" or "moist nugget" are affectionate nicknames for the mosin nagant rifle. It's one of the more affordable options for getting into milsurp rifles.

This was about 5 years ago in northern Idaho.
>playing a metal festival out in the middle of nowhere.
>It's up along a mountainside, a couple dozen miles from any town.
>night time comes.
>debauchery.
>everybody is drinking, drugs, all in all a party.
>inevitably, a dumb ass hippy drum circle happens.
>fuck it ,it's a pretty good time.
>just drinking, i think it's funny to mess with all the people tripping.
>pull the old "shine a light under my face and make weird faces" bit.
>laughs, some can't handle it, whatever.
>light against face, wander into woods, while previous continues.
>after a little bit, figure i may as well cut the light and wander until i can't hear the drums.
>really enjoying the still night and stars.
>at a point, figure it's best to head back, before i lose my bearings or they stop making noise and i can't find my way.
>turn the light on.
>there are two men standing 8 feet ahead of me.
>they have no light. They aren't holding one. One of them just has a small burlap bag.
>they say nothing.
>i nervously say "Hello".
>they just stare.
>seconds seem like hours.
>they seem to be unaffected by running into me way out here.
>i decide to turn around and hustle away.
>about 50 feet away, i turn back to see if they followed.
>exactly where i left them.
>still staring.
>now they looked more aware. Wider eyes.
>starting running ,cut my light about a hundred yards away from them, to try and lose them.
>hear drums. See the fire.
>when i get back, nobody believes me.
>i sit and stare where i broke out of the woods, expecting the two men to emerge.
>party breaks up.
>eventually go to bed.

The next morning, the fire pit we built had been kicked and thrown about, which definitely didn't happen the night before. Luckily, that was the last day, and we got out of there as soon as we could.

This happened to me during the summer of 2014. Nothing paranormal, but scary as hell.
> hiking in the Dovre mountains in Norway
> in the alpine zone, beautiful view all around
> it's getting dark
> set up my tent on a nice moss-covered piece of ground
> eat, shit and drink whiskey before eventually going to sleep
> wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of something moving outside my tent
> 'clop, clop, clop'
> the sound of hooves on rock
> fuck me, must be a muskox
> quite a lot of them up here, saw several hiking during the day
> they are very territorial, will attack rather than run
> not recommended to get closer than 200 meters
> moving veeery slowly I unzip the tentflap and peek out
> a big fucker is eating moss about 5 meters from my tent
> I camped right on top of their foodsource, and a huge batch of it at that
> slowly close the flap
> nearly shit myself when it moos loudly
> lay completely still in my sleepingbag
> heart's racing
> they're known not to move very much, and can stay in the same spot for days if theres abundant food
> eventually fall asleep

Made sure not to camp on their food after that. It's comfy to sleep on, but not worth it by far.

When I went on my first solo camp, I was hiking up to a mountain peak and had my camp set up. I was about 12 years old. The wind starting nagging on and made ghost howling noises blowing between the tall naked trees (was November). I noped the fuck out of there. Left everything behind. Got grounded for the rest of the Winter for leaving my shotgun up there. Wasn't my finest moment.

Honestly, I'm not even afraid of Bigfoot. My grandmother (who isn't going senile yet) told me a story when she went camping with a few friends when she was a teen.

Said they were sitting around the fire at night talking when they smelt a skunk. So they started packing up their food cause that's probably what it was looking for. Then the stench got incredibly stronger and two of the girls let out a huge gasp (not a scream but a gasp I guess). Some big ape fucking looking thing was holding what looked like a huge club just stood there staring at everyone for a bit.
Then it kind of pointed (?) towards the food that one if the guys was holding which was left over steak and potatoes. So obviously he gives it the food and Bigfoot just walks away.

Sasquatches aren't scary, they're just assholes.

I've never wandered into the wild itself, always kept on paths or a few feet from them. But I've gotten that feeling of uneasiness and to NOPE the fuck out twice, both of them at night.
Still I'm curious about wandering into the woods while in daylight, the only thing that worries me is falling somewhere and breaking a leg.

seriously, I get it - maybe if there were only 1 or 2 sleeping photos, you probably would not have noticed 1 or 2 photos gone from the camera (the little pin wheel thing that show how many you have left is hard to keep an accurate count) but you would know if that number went down by 15

I can't tell you much about their specifics. But they seem to be like some sort of demon or spirit imo, rather than "animals" like the goatman or samsquatch.
Its very common for demons/spirits to make "deals" and are very obsessed with following the "rules".
Id also like to point out the movements. They tend to "flicker" and "float" in the stories.
But what do I know. Theres some weird shit in the south.

Been in some pretty spooky places and hiked at least a hundred miles this year alone and I've never had any spoopy experiences that weren't attributed to paranoia and being lonesome. POST MORE STORIES GOD DAMMIT

This happened when I was 11,
My grandfather was a great man, he passed a few months ago and I miss him.
He used to take us out in the pitch black nights to stroll through a forested area near his ranch that surrounded a small river, more like a creek. The place was beautiful during the day, huge squat trees, oaks and some other kinds I don't know with huge trunks. Took about 5 people holding hands to go at round them. No lights other than the stars and sometimes the moon. He used to scare the shit out of us telling us stories as we walked single filed down game trails trough the woods and sometimes high grass. It was fun for me and my cousins all about the same age. It was fun to move quietly as frogs and rabbits and foxes and possums all made their way trough the woods. We never carried a flashlight, he used to point at huge bull frogs and jokingly say "look at the baby rabbit" this particulat time it was just him and me, my younger cousins had been kept by their helicopter mom. So we were the brave ones. We were about 20 minutes in our walk, they were usually about one hour long when the forest went eerily quiet. No crickets, no cicadas, nothing rustling in the night, we were within view of the water that just lazily trickled over rocks on its way down. No moon that night. I was overwhelmed by a feeling of dread and my grandfather felt it too. He reached back and grabbed my shoulder and said we had to head back. I thought it was strange sience he enjoyed these walks as much as the kids. He seemed worried but I couldn't really see the look in his face be a use of the darkness. He held on to my shoulder all the way back rushing me and guiding me. About five minutes later of double timing it back home he stopped and held me in place. Feeling of dread intensified I almost shat bricks as I heard him opening up his old buck knife. One of the old ones bigger than the 110 I carry now. Cont....

So we stood there for a minute. We could hear our breath. Then we heard some paces behind us. Sounded like the hooves of a deer or goat on the round rocks that were everywhere near that river. Probably some of the most intense moments of my life, gramps told me to go on. Get going home. I was petrified he said it I'll be ok so my scared as fuck 11 year old mind said fuck it. I took off power walking home. Grandpa stayed behind as I was closer to the house that I thought, about 3 minutes and steep climb from with was the old river bed on to the road that took us home. I got to the end of the tree line and waited for a few seconds. It was then when I head a pretty terrifying shriek and saw my gramps haul ass from the deep darkness from under the trees.we made it home a few minutes later where he told me not to tell my grandmother because it would worry her, he tried to play it off as a joke but he seemed worried and as soon as we got back he locked the metal door to his house and set the 30-06 in the corner behind it. We were pretty shook up and after that he never really took us out again. Granma made flur tortillas and we had avocado and chile tacos I never said anything. Still remember how intense that shit was.
Tfw based grandpa stabbed a skin walker and then we went home to eat avocados.

There are stories from some fellow rangers about how this female ranger at another park once walked up on a place in the woods to investigate a fire (nowhere near a campground).
She came upon a man staring at her with a wild look in his eyes, shirtless, with dead animals hung upside down headless (there was an owl, rabbits, squirrels, etc.
Apparently his eyes were completely bloodshot.
The ranger, being alone (and while rangers in this state don't carry) she just booked it and went back to the park's headquarters.
I sort of believe this, because last summer a dead owl turned up at a campground missing its head at that same park. We got the owl parts at our park from a CO to preserve for educating kids. If I cared enough to see if this is true I could ask about the report or FOIA it.

That beats the Leg Story some of my old fellow camp staff have. They went of hiking in the forest way off property and found a mostly intact leg attached to a mostly decayed corpse. The next day SAR had one of them lead back to the body. He conveniently "couldn't find it" so one of the others could get a free helicopter ride. Also led to one of the more memorable camp radio conversations. All the SAR and higher-ups at camp are on the radio being vague talking about getting and recovering the object b/c don't want to freak out campers. Coworker who scammed SAR into a helicopter ride responds to one of their questions with "WE'RE RIGHT OVER THE BODY!" Leading theory as to the body is some hiker got bit on the leg by a rattler and than fell to where he was found. Whatever animals went to scavenge the corpse avoided the leg with the venom in it.

The ending may disappoint but this all happened.

For obvious reasons I'm changing names.
Summer of 2015 my friends (faggot & autist), my dog (paco) and I ('beetus) went camping at a state park here in Texas
>I'm an avid camper, having been primitive camping in all over this state and in utah as well.
>faggot is a camper as well, albeit not much outside of boyscouts
>autist's definition of camping is a tent next to a power outlet.

>in planning the trip, had to change dates because faggot told me the wrong day.
>all the primitive sites are filled at the other state parks
>decide on one park, but primitive is same as normal site for some reason
>alright
>load up car and roof rack and drive out there
>sign in, park is kinda empty, only two rangers we could see
>pull up to ring of campsites, almost a cove of trees next to the lake, surrounding this giant picnic shelter/grill thing.
>beautiful as fuck, tree coverage so thick almost like it's overcast all the time
>perfect for Texas summer
>as we unpack and explore this cool area we notice people yelling at each other at the closest bathroom structure
>sounds like "hurry up so we can GTFO"
>mustbemadcouple.jpg
>after they leave notice it's unsettlingly quiet
>This is normal because we got there at a time when people were leaving the park rather than coming, but no-one was there when we got there
>even park rangers were rare the first night

>we set up camp, me and faggot are using ultralight tents
>autist has hard time setting up this huge fucking 4 person tent
>we decide to take paco on a walk, excited because new place to explore
>before leaving we stack and secure out gear box and cooler with ratchet straps to test for night time with raccoons
>go on walk, come back
>decide to start prepping food
> faggot is mad at me
>asking me where I put X utensil he had taken out before, but put back
