Nothing, I haven't hunted/fished in years. I farm now and raise my own (chicken).

I don't think you've "caught" those...

I'd say 10-15 minutes each, males take longer. We usually have 2 or 3 guys doing it.
>>699252
How come? Hunting is about capturing the animal, how haven't I caught it?
>>
There's only pig, dove and green iguana hunting in my country. What a shame. I hunted 13 iguanas last November, they where around 4-5 feet long. Good thing is that there is no limit hunting them.

I didn't know this was a thing, haha. Do you eat them? I eat fried alligator sometimes, I wonder how the flavors would compare.

I genuinely caught a barn owl with my bare hands the other day. One of those things that no-one will ever believe me about I guess.

I once caught a jackrabbit by chasing it down. Motherfucker was docile as fuck when held by the nape. Then got super vicious angry after a few seconds.

They actually let you shoot a gun?
>>

Fuck catching live, wild rabbits. Like you said, at first they're all nice and calm but then they start kicking their feet, scratching the fuck out of your arms, and those little bastards bite pretty damn hard.

Nah they taste like your grandfather's balls.

Around here what people do is catch them one year and castrate them, and then release them before killing them the next year.

Removing the testicles makes them less disgusting tasting, but the process takes a long time.
>>
So IM in Texas right now, and I keep seeing piles of dead boar and rabbits on the side of the road. Are you fuckers really this wasteful and lazy.

Pigs I can understand. I've seen a place pulling 5 a day out of coral traps daily. It gets old after a few days. There's only so many people you can give it away to. Most food banks won't accept Feral pigs meat either
>>
>>699513
trapping is the most cruel things that only brain dead subhumans do

you should legitimately hang yourself
>>
>>699556
how about you come back to reality where animals (including humans) die in horrible nasty ways every day, and have for millions of years.

Instead of dying because it slowly starved to death, or was dismembered by a predator, or gutted itself on a barbed wire fence, or got some horrible brain worm, or choked to death on a sharp bone, its death will actually benefit someone. It will have a day or so of pain or discomfort followed by a swift painless death. I'd take that over disembowelment or slow starvation any day of the fucking week.

Nature is mean, cruel, and unfeeling, so go shove your mushy happy feelings up your ass you hippie faggot.

Gotta ask the hunterbros, how are you able to look at dead animals? I don't mean that in like a rude hippie way, I'm just surprised you guys can see blood or whatever without wanting to throw up. I'd like to get into hunting and shit since a ton of my friends like to hunt but I think if I were to actually take an animal's life I'd feel sick.
>>
>>699782
I can't answer that for all people, but for me, I live off of what I kill, so its like work to me. I don't get a rush from it, and I stopped getting sick from it when I was like 10.
Some people are different though. My brother is a tacticool operator type hunter that has all the equipment but isn't crazy about cutting open animals. I think he developed a fear of blood when he was shot but that was over a decade ago, so I don't know.

Since all these trapped animals were strangled I guess that makes me a predator. You seem to think the relationship between prey and predator should be fair or humane. It's not and never will be, that's only in the movies and television which you only seem to be familiar with.

>>699782
When I was an early teen blood and guts kinda bothered me. I even had to leave class when we dissected pig hearts. I just started looking at some of the nastiest pics involving war gore I could find online. Eventually it just didn't bother me anymore. You just become accustomed to it after an amount of time. It's just like Dr's, nurses, and medics arent ready for that first severe burn victims but they eventuallt get used to it. I wish I could say the same about the smells of certain animals.
>>
>>699513
I think that technique is pretty widespread in whole Europe. We do it in Hungary too.
>>
>>699782
The cure is just to see a bunch of blood and guts. Eventually you get used to it. To me an intestine is the same as a leg, or a lung, or an antler. They're all just parts of an animal.

OP asks for hunting pictures, I have hunting pictures, I post hunting pictures. I didn't even take any of the pictures, I have a friend who likes photographing everything he does, and he gives me the better pictures afterwards.

That being said, attentionwhoring (anonymously I might add) doesn't even touch the level of faggotry of someone telling another person to kill themselves because they trap animals.

I never understand all these "moral" faggots that whine about things that led to their existence.

Benefit off it for thousands and thousands of years, but now anyone who does it is a horrible person? What short sighted childish people, if they're so morally upset by the idea, then they should kill themselves instead; after all, they wouldn't exist without hunting/trapping
>>
>>699513
No, Portugal. We mostly use three techniques of hunting, one is simply waiting, the other is going after the animal and the third one, the one we did for the pic in the OP is also waiting but you have someone with a dog pack moving the boars to your direction. It's a lazy kind of hunt mostly done so the elders get to kill something, the dogs catch some boars too, overall you need no skill at all, you do it mostly for the fun of it and then go have lunch and talk about it whilst getting drunk for the rest of the day.
Some people ITT are butthurt about the usage of the word "caught" but it is the correct term, maybe some of the meaning was lost in the translation but whatever, in the end I caught something so I'll stick to that word.

That's awesome. In the US we mainly use 3 as well. The first would be hunting them over a food source. It could be bait (mostly corn) or some sort of crop. The second would be with dogs. You run the dogs until they get scent and chase the pigs down. Several dogs are used. The dogs pin and corner the pig so the hunter can kill it. The third would be using traps. Either cage or coral style. The pigs there seem larger than ours.

arent claw traps illegal?
or are those just "hold traps" or something?

think trapping is pretty gay, but cant argue with the convenience.

>>699815
>I guess that makes me a predator
you haven't tasted the long pork yet, settle down.
>>
>>699922
>claw traps
Foothold traps like in that pic aren't illegal. They are designrd to hold the animal. They even have double jaw traps (which is what i use) that spread the surface area of the jaw out over a larger area. Offset jaws also exist to where the trap has a gap in the jaws so the trap only gets caught around the wrist of the animal. The old school bear traps most people think of that have teeth on the jaws are highly illegal. They have been banned almost everywhere for a long time. Each state have different regulations for trap sizes. Basically this is to prevent using excessively large traps for smaller animals. This is what can be considered cruel about trapping. Think of it like this: you wouldn't hunt a rabbit with a 50BMG because it overkill, same with using too large if traps on small animals.

>convenience
I probably spent 96 hrs total checking, setting, skinning, fleshing, and tanning fur all for 4 coons and 3 foxes. There's this misconception that trapping is just about setting a trap anywhere and you just instantly reap the rewards. It's not like that at all. I would also mention I released 8 opossums as well.

>long pork
Not yet.
>>
>>699521
Still, burn them or at least keep them on your own land. That shit stinks.
>>
>>699521
Big cat rescues and animal rehabs often need lots of fresh meat. They may even ask you to keep the animal intact. If it goes bad, find a rehab for birds. Many bird rehabs have vultures in training to be wild vultures. You may be able to strike a deal with someone.

For using dogs with hog hunting, I see a lot of put bulls used. Are older pit bulls and rescues ever used? I feel like there's a big opportunity to rehome very high energy dogs en masse
>>
>>700198
You could. I just don't see a lot of people spending time training an older dog.
>>
>>700198
I know several people who run dogs for hunting pigs. One guy I know goes hunting pretty much 2-3 days/nights a week and has 15+ dogs and has spent more money on his kennels and dogs than he did on his trailer house... He only starts training young dogs and if they aren't showing any potential to make good hunting dogs after a couple of years then he'll try to find someone to give the dog to if he thinks it'll make a good pet but if they don't have the temperament to make a pet then he'll just shoot them and bury them. He'll only take an older dog if it's already a proven hunting dog.

>bad pit bull problem in the south
You're joking I hope. More like #BLM is the reason there is a pit bull problem everywhere in the US.
>>
>>700478
>>700540
It's a combination of dog fighting, pig hunting, and the thug life. I would say in my area the older shelter pit Bulls are used for fodder for the fighting dogs.
>>
>>700573
Yeah, dog fighting is pretty bad in my area as well. Every once in a while there'll be a huge increase in dog theft that is accompanied by businesses finding lots of mangled dog carcasses in trash bags inside their commercial dumpsters. They really like stealing smaller dogs so they can train their younger pit bulls to be aggressive and kill other dogs without worrying about the pit bull puppy getting hurt, then as the pit bull gets older and more experienced at fighting they'll give it bigger dogs to kill.

My aunt had 3 of her dogs disappear one day last year and she figures they were used as fodder for fighting dogs.
>>
>>700573
Usually, anyone serious about fighting pits won't get a bait animal from a shelter. It costs money, and they can get them for free. They don't need a dog utd on shots when it's going to literally be treated like garbage.

That being said, those pits generally are not circulated into the pet trade easily. Dog fighters keep good tabs on their animals, because surrounding dog fighting is a ton of drugs too. You break a dog house and many other people could come down with it. Dogs are not sold as pets, brought to shelters or even animal hospitals, and they are usually decently contained. That's not to say that some punk teens couldn't get a dog aggressive pet bull and do some shoddy pit against another gameless dog, and populate from there. But for the most part, legitimate game fighting pits are often on the market

Looks like you're just trying to justify the fact that you like to kill and eat harmless animals. But fine. Every hunter does that.

The next time that you intend to use the 'nature' argument, kill a deer with a sharp stick and a stone. See who wins.
>>
>>701144

We never killed stuff like deer with a stick

Well, after we trapped them we used a sharp stick or stone to finish them

We've always used our wits, because we aren't superior enough in speed to catch them.
>>
>>699564

> A predator such as myself deserves to live out his days hunting his prey

You're thát type of person, aren't you?

>> /k/
>>
>>701144
But why? Humans have evolved to make tools which give us an edge when hunting game, just like other predatory animals have evolved with certain traits (sharp teeth, claws, powerful muscles, pack hunting tactics) that give them an edge over game animals. Nowhere in nature is there a "level playing field" in the predator vs prey matchup.
>>
> Gee I really love being outdoors! I wish I could do this all the time!

> Sweet baby jesus, a deer! Shoot it Carl! Shoot it!

> O boy it's dead alright! Great catch Carl! Well done! I can't wait to make a picture of you and this dead animal, to show to all of my hunting buddies over at the creek!

> Gee I wonder what /out/ thinks of my son killing animals in the wild! I bet they'd love it!

> Well this stinks, they don't love it! Well hunting is my right and I have the right to live and kill as a human being!

These people are a disease. Really. I may have 'meme'd' it up a bit, but this is how I see it. How can people even try to justify shooting animals from 50 meters ? I literally don't understand.
>>
>>701148

Yes

We lack the physical ability to hunt down most animals without resorting to tools and mechanisms (traps)

Ain't nothing different between a trap or a firearm.

Only retards think differently.
>>
>>701148

> Is a camera a basic human tool ment for the 'ultimate' survival game? Do you hunt these animals to survive in your dark damp cave? Why wouldn't you just buy meat in the grocery store like a normal human being instead of killing deer in the woods? This is beyond me man
>>
>>701149

>how can you justify killing something effectively

Shit, I don't know; food and taking the animal with minimal pain and stress for it?

Use your fucking brain.
>>
>>701151

You're a part of the problem and not the solution. Calling some one else a retard because they disagree with your opinion is beyond childish and you should take a long look at yourself.

>>701152

Wasn't meant to greentext there. That's actually my opinion.
>>
>>701152

Some people like to kill and clean the food they eat

It's more honorable than buying meat at the store if honor is your argument
>>
>>701153

> Killing effectively

You mean, without the slightest attempt at gaining the pain and wounds that you cause another living being? O right I see. I wasn't against hunting before, but I sure am now.
>>
>>701154

What's the difference between a trap and a firearm then?

If you don't have the mental ability to work it out in regards to "fairness", then yes, you're mentally retarded (backwards).
>>
>>701152
So if I raised my own animals like rabbits, chickens, and goats to slaughter and eat you'd be okay with that? Do you only have an issue with hunting wild animals but no moral qualms about raising livestock for slaughter?
>>
>>701155

> Killing things is honorable

>>701159

> So if I raised my own animals like rabbits, chickens, and goats to slaughter and eat you'd be okay with that?

I would be okay, if you had your own farm land, and grew your own crops. Maybe catch a few fish here and there if you're into that stuff.

> Disliking hunting automaticly means you like livestock and slaughter

Stop reflecting.
>>
>>701156

>gaining pain and wounds

Speak English

Shooting a deer or whatever is the most effective and painless way to harvest food outside of Western-style butchering

It's far more painless and humane than all of our traditional methods that people somehow think is more "fair"

Trap a deer like we did in the past and the animal will be suffering.
>>
>>701161

Ok, so honorable isn't your argument

Then what is?

Don't kill stuff?

Shit, I bet you kill bugs everyday without even knowing, and they have just as much of a right to live here as something like a deer.

If you want to eat meat, you have to kill. That's normal and natural.
>>
>>701162

You're a dumbass and I'm done with this thread.
>>
>>701163

You don't have to kill to eat and maintain a proper household. You should know these things because you're still trying to justify your violent lifestyle.
>>
>>701161
Listen, you're the one that asked why I don't "just buy meat in a grocery store like a normal human being". I just assumed from that statement that you viewed the commercial slaughter of livestock in a better light than hunting.
>>
>>701164

>hurr, you're dumb and I'm running away!

Grow up.

If you can't handle killing and eating meat, then don't.

Don't deride those that do, because whether you do it or don't doesn't make you a better person.
>>
>>701166

Well I think it is. Just imagine the uproar when butchers start to upload trophy pictures with dead cows and bulls.
>>
>>701165

If you're to eat meat, you or someone has to kill it.

That's the facts.

I bet you had this argument a lot.

You're on the wrong board by the way.

So, you eat all meat that you catch, yourself?

>>701170

Yeah like that
>>
>>701173

>do you eat meat that you go after

That's the point.

Whether fish, piggie or deer. Food.
>>
>>701177

Well if you eat the animals that you shoot or catch, that's fine with me. Killing them for trophy and fun isn't.
>>
>>701171

Hunting isn't /out/?

Hunting is pretty much the original /out/ activity.
>>
>>701179

No hunting isn't /out/ related, I think. And I disagree. Hunting isn't the original /out/ activity either.
>>
>>701180
Hunting and gathering were the original /out/ activities.
>>
>>701183

Hunting and gathering are two completely different activities. Hunting mostly involves the use of firearms and/or other weapons, which /out/ hates with a strong disgust. I'm sure you've noticed it before. With a statement as seen above you would be in a strong minority when it comes to the whole discussion at hand. Killing and/or harming animals for sport isn't concidered respectful towards nature. Therefore, /outdoors/ isn't the place for you, and you should concider looking elsewhere to share this lovely and wonderful hobby of yours. I would pick gathering plants and fruits above hunting any day. Why? Because I think humans have done enough to mess up the world and I don't want to be a part of the problem. I want to be a part of the solution and I'll do my best to solve the problem. You can disagree all you want, but the end results will still be the same. When there are no animals left for you people to hunt, you'll be sorry and blame some one else. Animals for the meat that you see in the grocery stores are grown for this very purpose. But this won't last long either.

>>701185
>Therefore, /outdoors/ isn't the place for you, and you should concider looking elsewhere to share this lovely and wonderful hobby of yours.

Read the fucking sticky.

I'm out, it's 4:30 am here and WAY past my bedtime.
>>

>Read the fucking sticky

Read what I'm saying instead. In that way you won't misunderstand.
>>
>>701189
Not him, stop being narcissistic and read the fucking sticky
>>
>>701193

I did, actually. I just strongly disagree with people killing animals and making pictures of it. That's not against the rules.
>>
>>701185
>which /out/ hates with a strong disgust.

Speak for yourself, hunting probably compromises half my /out/ time.
>>
>>701215

I am speaking for myself.
>>
>>701216
When you say
>/out/ hates x
You are in fact attempting to speak for others. Speaking for yourself would have been
>As an /out/ist I hate x
>>
>>701194
Then maybe you should avoid hunting threads on an anonymous image board where you can literally sway no ones opinion and all you'd really be doing is wasting your time. Go shit up facebook or tumblr if you're going to not even bother understanding what the DNR is and what a bag limit and hunting licenses are for. Jesus, it's almost like you're trying to figure out a new way to scream "I'm vegan" at everyone without actually saying it. The whole "I'm holier than thou because I don't kill things" attitude is older than holy fuck and I'm sick of hipsters pretending to be better than everyone they come in contact with because they're doing the new edgy thing. I sincerely hope you get gored by an animal you refuse to hunt while you're out picking dickberries off a cuck bush, you fuck.

4/10 for making me reply.

These anti hunters just feel beta because going to the drive-thru at McDonald's isn't an /out/ activity
>>

Seeing people die did it for me a I guess. Before that when my granddad and I hunted it bothered me a little, but being hungry fixes that.
>>
>>701149
Hunting is a hobby but also a skill. I think most people in this thread go /out/ even when they're not hunting, it just so happens the two are very related. I bet their are more hunters on /out/ who don't take photos of themselves as well, such as myself. Not because we think we're better than those that do, rather we don't care or are afraid of the photo being seen by coworkers and such.

I hike and camp because of those things I found a love for hunting.

I enjoy watching and stalking game without a rifle asmuch as I enjoy a hunting trip.

To eat meat something must die, i know what ever i hunt was free range in the truest sense of the word. It is organic and healthier food than many farmed meats.

99% of hunters respect their prey and make every effort to provide a fast and as painless death as possible.

My children understand where their food comes from and its not packaged guilt free in an abattoir.

Dont like hunting dont hunt or read the threads

Once you've done it enough they look like food, you strip a rabbit down and 1/3 of their bodyweight is guts, drop that lot out and the bulk of your meat is in the back legs and backstraps. So when you see a dead rabbit you look to see that your shot was clean, assess the condition of the rabbit, if it looks good then you go about extracting your cuts of meat off the animal, it feels just like stripping a chicken carcass, only you haven't cooked it yet.

Obviously the process is different for different types of hunting, some hunts you take what you can carry, others you hang the whole carcass and butcher it later but essentially you're always preparing food at the end of the day.

Shooting to cull is a different story.

>>

Dear simpleton: I can't speak for everywhere, but where I live (and hunt) deer are an introduced pest. Do you understand what that means? It means if left alone they will destroy native bush, which in turn will lead to the death of native birds etc. If numbers get too high, our department of conservation actually employs people to cull pest populations. (Like, shooting them from a heli, and letting them rot where they fall) On top of this, factory farming is harmful, and wild deer is delicious and organic and fucking free, you goddamn idiot. All of your arguments are invalid.

I mean, really. The places where animals are killed the most unethically are big industry slaughterhouses, not when pappa fudd goes hunting for moose twice a year.
