Scotfag reporting in.

Quite happy with the amount and quality of countryside up here.

Do wish I could take my air rifle out on public land but beyond that no complaints.
>>

That's kinda funny, in german many people say canoe when they mean kayak.
>>
have any of you wild camped along any long distance footpaths?

really cannot be fucked finding and sleeping in an official campsite every night
>>
>>695943
I was only thinking about that last week , they are putting a few long distance walking trails together here (they are trying to put one coast to coast ) they say half of it is done but I haven't checked it out yet
Problem here is a lot of those things cut through private land and finding a place where a farmer won't freak out
>>
Anyone ever camp in the burren ? Last there about three years ago , really liked it , was a bit of a change camping somewhere so exposed with Fuck all trees , moved down to an area near the ocean on the last day and there were loads of people camping there , all were pretty chill went climbing with a few of them before going home

Probably the closest thread I'm going to find, since I don't want to make my own and push someone else's off the board.

Any tips on finding good trails? I live in the North East (near Sunderland) and am trying to find some decent places to take the dog for walks, since me and him are both getting tired of the same 2 or 3 routes.

I feel like I'm surrounded by farmers fields and they don't have any public footpaths around them that aren't next to main roads, there are a few places (forests and beaches), but they're all driving distance away.

Pic related, followed a couple of footpaths today and they terminated at a quarry, looking on google maps after the fact it seems there was a walkway around it that I missed but it wasn't signposted and seemed to terminate in another farmer's field (was mostly a route for tractors to get to the fields)
>>
>>695947
But you wouldn't want to break the law now, would you?

Fact I need to get the ferry to Norway or drive up to Scotland to be able to camp legally somewhere that isn't a fucking caravan site drives me up the wall.
>>
>>696663
I often camp on coillte land , still illegal but there is no farmer to freak out. Had a few places I used to camp and over the years farmers have said sorry not allowing it anymore because of some dickheads acting like assholes and ruining it for everybody

Try Balmoral if you can make the trip. It isn't just my favourite spot but the Queens favourite as well. Lochnagar has a fair view, 25 miles all day trip. Also since the Queen is constantly here the police officers are all friendly and all armed, makes you feel extra safe. Recently here in Aberdeen armed force units have reduced from a third of total patrols to about a quarter or less, kind of a way to tell if royalty is in Balmoral.
>>
>>695947
It's great in Scotland, no trespass laws. But it is best to tell the land owner before just in case they have moved the Highland coos.

Sussex is one of my favourite counties for outdoors.

There are lots of places that are very hilly and heavily wooded, the downs are a heaven for walkers.

Going camping for my Duke of Edinburgh award in a few months and I'm needing to get a tent (have to double with fuckers otherwise). I'm in Scotland so even though we'll be going in summer, its still liable to be cold/wet. I'm not looking for top of the line but I don't want a stinker either. Probably like £100 maximum.

You fellas got any recommendations?

Thinking about picking up a new jacket and I'd like a camo that works well up here in Scotland.

Thinking.. maybe a Vegatato smock (pic related), we have a lot of reddy browns, and a variety of green shades, so it would seem to fit well from that. Also quite pleasing to the eye IMO, and maybe looks closer to a hunting camo than military camo.

Otherwise, Swedish m90 seems pretty good. I like the big blocky shapes, but concerned that it might be a bit too 'lush' for Scotland, with too many pale greens and not enough browns.

Don't want MTP or DPM as I don't like the association with serving soldiers.

Thoughts, guys? I'd normally post over on a camo porn thread on /k/ but as I want something functional here in the UK figured it'd be better to post here.
>>
>>698437
Solid colours work well too, out in the moors you could use coyote tan since it's the same colour as the long grass, if you're in a thick woody area with lots of green then OD (Olive Drab) would be pretty cool.

I was there about 3 yrs ago aswell, lovely spot. I didn't see anyone else camping. I met a bunch of people that were there for an international caving event. They were going caving in whatever the name of the caves in Doolin are called but they were all staying in a hotel
>>
>>696682
Most coillte spots aren't that big though.
>>
>>699692
I know but some of them come in handy. Like a couple of years ago I was down around lahinch, did a couple of days walking with intermittent hiking , worked it out so end of day one was near coillte land , went in there and set up camp for the night , passed some guys on the trail loading felled trees on to trucks , they left me at it
>>699691
When I was there there was about six or seven tents clustered together on a small patch of grass , this was where you take the road from doolin to the burden and its kind of where the burren "starts" if you get me and met two guys setting up in the burren proper in bivys

Dear Irish lads, I'm planning on doing Malin head to Mizen head by foot in August with a group of mates, anyone do this before that has some good advice? Not sure what route I'll take yet to be honest, may stick to the west coast and do some fishing while I'm at it since I've not got a freshwater license
>>
>>699843
the question is, if you camp who's going to stop you? I'm the original donegal poster from up top ^ , in reality it would be pretty difficult to get caught, especially if you have a vehicle as well to easily transport gear.

>>699845
lad you have to get up to donegal, unreal. the problem is lots of rain frost and wind. however, on a good weekend its like nothing youve ever seen. ill try n find some pics and post it here later from my hiking

Any Irish people here done the Wicklow Way hike running from South Dublin down to Carlow?

A friend and I are planning on doing it in July, and our main question was to sleeping arrangements. The hike itself is 129km and we wondering whether to go for tents (not sure about the laws regarding camping over night) or just being pussies and staying in hotels?
>>
>>702429
Everyone I've talked to says the same about Donegal , that's it's class , I promised the kids I would bring them down to camp (the place on the road to dingle) during the summer and I have work to do on my mobile home in Kerry so if I have more time must try and get some lads together and get up there

I live in the north east, surrounded by plenty of greenery but it's all just farmers fields and motorways, very few forests (none within walking distance), but I want to start doing some day hikes, even if it's just for the exercise, and I found a topic that interests me.

I know there's a fair few WW2 pillboxes and what not around me, I know of the exact locations of a few in particular (only one I've actually been to). Just discovered there are entire communities online dedicated to them.

Anyway, there's one relatively near me that I've never been to and yet I pass it almost twice a day, it's about 100-200m into a farmers field directly adjacent to a dual carriageway.

Wondering the laws regarding me having a cheeky little walk up to it to have a peek around inside it and take a couple of photos. No idea who owns the field, or even where to find that out, in order to get permission.

-

Just had a look on google maps and there's what looks like a public footpath that runs fairly close to it, would still need to cross the field to get to it. Never even knew there was a footpath there, since I'm always driving past it at 50mph. I didn't even know there was a cycle path on the route to the beach until I tried to cycle there and found a 2 foot wide path designed (I assume) specifically for bikes just off the road that is obscured by grass.

Pic related, what appears to be a footpath (judging by it being unkempt, signposted with an opening to it). Pillbox is on the left.
>>
I'm in need of a decent 2 man tent and 3 season sleeping bag, budget for each ~£150, obviously less is better.

Mainly used for UK camping in the lakes, peaks, scotland, snowdonia etc at most times of the year apart from deep winter/snow

Any recommendations?
>>
>>703601
pretty sure the owner of the land won't care as long as you're only looking/taking pictures. There's two pillboxes on cayton bay beach near scarborough. I remember when I was young I climbed in one through the top because the small entrance was buried/blocked with sand, I was a bit short too climb out and the tide was coming in, fun times.
>>
>>705422
Scarborough is actually (relatively) close to me, although it's more within driving distance rather than cycling distance which I'm more comfortable with.

There's one on blast beach which I have a few pictures of (it's where some shots in Alien 3 were filmed), which is just up the coast.
