A thread for the godawful "tactical survival" gear that infests every "cool shit you can buy" site. Looking for products with zombie in the name is usually a good start.

I found this monstrosity the other day.

The concept itself has some potential.
If that thing was designed and manufactured properly, it could be useful.

I'm not sure there is a way to do it properly. If you hardened everything to the point where it was actually useful, you'd never be able to snap it off the panel. I'm sure there's a process that could harden just the edges and leave the sprues alone, but it would make the thing too expensive for anyone to buy.

Actually, perforated hardened steel metal is rather brittle. You'd just need to tap it with something at most. It can also be thinned out at the break points (like the one in >>691835 has).

However, the readyman stuff is all rather flimsy and doesn't hold up well with repeated use. This is because it is actually a bit too thin. There are better products.

I met Tim Leatherman and I didnt have the balls to tell him how trashy this is,
>>
>>691835
My daughter gave me two for Christmas.
Why two? Because she knows I don't carry anything I have not tested.
Saw works, fine teeth cut hardwood and green bone just fine, large teeth only work on cane and very soft wood.
Awl and needles are good enough for a quick repair in cloth or leather.
Fish hooks actually caught fish, a nice three pound trout.
Frog spear took some fiddling to get fixed to a shaft but managed to take a frog.
The arrow heads are arrow heads. Fit the same as any other presses metal arrow head.
The snare sliders did not work at first, Ravens like shiny things. A bit of mud fixed that and two rabbits found their way into the pot.

It is not something that I would have purchased myself, I'm happy with it anyway.
>>

hard steel snaps off easier than soft retard

>>
>>692199
What do you mean
>>
>>692040
No, not really. Hardening increases the strength. It's more brittle at the yield point, yes, but that yield point is much higher.
>>
>>692255
They're not allowed to carry knives in UK.
>>
>>692286
that is why it's weakened, it's only a flimsy little neck holding the stuff together, but i could snap the entire thing in half if it was very hard steel.
you could even break a sword with human force if you apply it the "wrong way" and they have a tough temper.
>>
>>691894
Uh, this is the outdoors board, not the tacticool board. You can go jogging outdoors, which is what a lot of people use the Fitbit for. However, just having a lot of shitty knives and guns on your wall to look at is what /k/ is for.

Locking knives, which all leatherman models have, are banned though.

And yet, this is not /k/, it's /out/. There are threads about companion planting. The sticky says shit about gardening, urbexing etc. Also, it's widely acknowledged that /an/ had a lot to do with the origin of this board. Not OP, but there are variations of this type of tool but from what I have seen the answer is yes. The idea is you lash it to a stick when you need an axe. It is a sub par tool in every other regard besides chopping veggies and it doesn't make the most ideal axe.

Everyone bashes on these, but I have actually handled an original one (made by Beck himself in the 80s in PA or NJ) and I can tell you that it was actually pretty good. The handle wasn't all weird and fucky like the TOPS one, and the place where the blade grind changes is nowhere near as pronounced on the TOPS one. The original is also a whole lot lighter, and is like 3/16 thick instead of 1/4. Imagine the TOPS as a caricature of the original knife. I don;t have any pics but I could get some from the guy who owns it if /out/ wants.

illegal, britbongs can't have locking blades
my solution to this if i was in britain would be o ducktape the blade shut and carry it that way.
basically it makes the knife unsuable for muggings and self defense but if you have need for it in a survival situation you got a knife and you got duck tape.
>>
>>691833
>>
>>697505
can you even read?

yes britbongs can have locking/fixed blades as long as they have a legit reason to be carrying one. obviously carrying meme tier blades like the tb tracker to 'cut up your sanries for lunch' isn't a legit reason

yeah but the legit reason is up to the policemen to determine, also i personally think that having a knife just in case is legit reason. i know the laws involved i have looked them up in the past.

i wonder if pic related would be viewed as a danger to public safety... i mean i tried to force open it it didn't but this has no mention in the law.

no it's not, there are no laws, there is legislation- which is VERY different (read up)

what cops will try to establish is intent, which is why they question in a very specific way- you get coerced into admitting you're carrying a weapon, or agreeing with statements made by the fuzz to the same end.

weapon=intent to cause harm/menace=getting nicked.

I've had this twice with North Wales police, even once with the armed response- where a one of them actually managed to cut themselves with my knife. every time I've had my knife returned to me and been let to go about my business ( after my knife had been cleaned and given back to me by a copper laughing at his bleeding colleague)

I have an aversion to anything with a compass in the handle.
Knives, tomahawks, walking sticks, there is even a bow with an inbuilt compass.
They are usually cheep and small. Water filled and fragile.
I will never go anywhere with out a compass with a one and a half inch card, oil filled with compensating bellows, micro etched in mills and prismatic.

Complete horse shit, not to mention that not all Leathermans are locking blade, even if it were true.

I carry a full size fucking Ka-bar to work because I can justify having it if ever I'm asked, which I never have been, cos I'm not a pleb.

If I carried it around with me when I went down the pub then I would expect to be fucked for it, which I would never do, cos common sense.

Same as we can own shotguns, and most rifles, providing we have a reason to own them and the correct license to do so. Again, this is common sense, and we realise we don't generally need a fucking AK47 or M16 to hunt with.

"Free Range" - The animals have a door in their enclosure leading to the outside. There is no requirement for how large the outdoor space is, and there is no requirement that the animals actually go outside or how much time they spend there.

They actually look pretty good at killing smaller shit

Good for slicing and stabbing

It's just that most people don't kill shit with their knives.

I hunt pigs with mine, but this one isn't long enough. 10" blade or more is what I see as needed.

found the retard

>most people don't kill shit with their knives.
wtf is this dude serious?

>i hunt pigs with mine
yeah...

>10" blade or more is what I see as needed.
then why the fuck you would comment on a knife that is utter shit to hunt pigs with as looking good?
>>
>>708349

Looks fine to me. Sawback isn't going to be a problem against flesh. Stab, and work your way up to make a larger wound, or just slice their throat to bleed them out. This is in a trap.

Yes, most people don't kill critters with their knives. I trap animals weekly and finish them off with knives, as it's cheaper than a .22LR round.

It looks good for finishing off critters in a trap, like foxes or other feral animals. Pigs too, as you don't need much penetration there.

Not for actual hunting, though, where you need lots of penetration to reach the heart from behind the shoulder.

And yes, I'm very serious. Some of us actually do live in da woods and live on the land. I'm in outback Oz.

okay then buy one of these abominations test it and give us the review.
i'm gonna get some popcorn.

that is a shit tool it's pure undiluted crap. too small to actually do chopping has a retarded saw on the spine it's too thick for it's length but at least pretty weak at the neck heat treat is probably fucked up and prone to splits in line with the saw etches. is what i see.
>>
>>708367

If I needed another knife, sure. Don't they make a bigger one? I'd rather that one.

My point is that isn't not going to be bad at slicing things; the sawback can be handy for ropes and synthetic binds (how many times have you found something your basic blade needs plenty of time to saw through? I've been there).

Sure, it might look odd, but I can't say it'd be bad at what a knife does for something that length.
>>
>>708371
that saw will not do good for ropes and binds
serrated edges are best for that but honestly a sharp blade will have no issues.

when i have to cut plastic i like the serrations but for everything else plain edge.

yeah nobody needs a 60yr old automatic to hunt. doesnt mean there isnt anything that would prevent either from being used succesfully though since you dont have to use automatic fire or 30rd mags. That supposed need for restrictiom is based solely on fear and ignorance

If you're killing animals with a knife because you can't afford to spend 7 cents to kill them with a .22, maybe you shouldn't be killing them

Not him but here on Brland organic farmers need to prove to the govermint what they are doing and they get to sell the product as organic. There was some dudes posing as hippies on a hip and modern city here (full of vegans and potheads) and selling fake organic goods on a large vegan/organic weekly fair. Now consciouness is very high. The government stamp covers everything from normal organics to full blown retard crystal energized tomatoes though so they aren't very specific but anything is better than commercial crops using illegal paraguayan smuggled pesticides 3 times a week.

legislation needs the consent of the governed to be enforced, law doest.

basically you can't argue with a law, you're breaking it or youre not it's black and white.

legislation is very grey, and needs for specific conditions to be met by both parties. in nearly every case encountered in my experience when it comes to legislation it's been down to the offender landing themselves in the shit by responding poorly to questioning so that their testimony is effective evidence again them. the police here in the UK question in a very specific way during interviews (they're trained to) to further this.

tricking hippies and getting paid is too good to pass up
>>
>>709212
that's sounds very stupid.
here there is no difference in execution of government decrees and laws.
the only difference is how hard it is to change them.
>>
>>709242
The guy made a lot of dosh. Mainly because one time a week the fair was in the middle of the local federal university (femifats, veganshits and pothead central). I bought from him once but he just coudn't shut up about how he studied agronomy and the government spyed on him and quatum phisics (just bullshit, including agronomy) and I realized he talked too much just to make a decent "stupid, paranoid hippie" cover and never went there again. But some weeks later a TV crew taped him buying normal vegetables at the distribution center (normal here = pesticides up the ass because no fiscalizationm the prime example of that is Strawberries that get sprayed 3 times a week. Yeah 3 fucking times for months) and he appeared on national TV and the vegans tried lynching him kek

or he can use what he has, which is free and apparently effective for his method. Its not my cup of tea but it really wasnt worth your response

Yeah sort of.

Their quality is ok and some specific designs are useable.

It was Italian before, now run by amerikeks. Something shady went on and they just spout out retarded meme knives.

And it's not like they're cheap or anything, because they're expensive as fuck.

I have a Steel Eagle and it is the most uncomfortable knife I own.
