nevermind - i figure you mean the bushcraft black.. its great for working on wood but the skandi grind is fragile, it needs constant maintenance especially in my area where everything is always wet and its no good for food prep or dressing game. i love it but i think i will move away from skandi ground, carbon steel blades for my next knoife.

After all comments I made some changes.
Added a Kodiak 20,000 strike firestarter.
Added a great poncho which can also be used as tarp.
Added Cast Iron Lodge skillet and Titanium Sporks (x2).
>>
>>656687
have you ever tried starting a fire with a magnesium striker?
>>
>>656689
I already have the Kodiak firestarter, just hadnt added it to the list. Yes, I have used my equipment.
>>
>>656691
well how did it go?
>>
>>656692
works real well, even though the tinder was a bit humid/wet it lit up fine. Why do you ask?
>>
>>656693
just curious, what did you use for tinder, wood shavings by the context, ive not used strikers very much i usually use matches
>>
>>656695
pine wood shavings, I live in the mediterranean, thats why I dont have heavy jackets or cold weather clothing in the pic, it never gets lower than -2C here, almost never rains either. but when it rains.. oh boy, get ready for the downpour
>>
>>656697
i see i live in alberta canada, so fire-starting is a big thing to me when i think of survival ,gotta love the smell of pine saps though.
>>
>>656698
We have so many problems with fire here because of how dry it is it's not even funny... No problem starting a fire!, I can understand in Alberta it might be problematic
>>
>>656699
in the pic your knife's serrated do you use the upper part for shavings or your hatchet multitool?
>>

the hatchet is light enough, and the steel is good enough to make shavings.

>>
>>656543
Why do u need 3 knives, 2 ferral rods, axe and saw? Seems kinda over redundant....
>>
>>656740
ever hear the term two is one, one is none..
i really only use the big ferro rod, the smaller one on my sheath is a backup.
the multi-knife is for game prep, i only carry the mora pro s sometimes because its my prefered woodcraft knife - i make my own bows and arrows.. the folding saw i carry because my fiance prefers it and i like the axe better. wood processing is a big thing for us to get a fire going because its so wet here all the time. i have so many different ways of fire lighting too - lighters, char cloth, fatwood etc. its always a challenge here getting fire so its good to practice different ways.

>No water

>Square sleeping bag
Only in summer, Anon.

>>656543
>7 knives, an axe and a saw
Get a sleeping bag instead. Get a wood stove and you won't even need one except for food preparation. An opinel is all you need.
And get a bigger bag.
>>
>>657315
ive got a wood stove - its in both the pics i posted..
why do i need a bigger bag?
>>
>>657315
also where do u see 7 knives?
theres 3 in that pic and i already explained their uses and why i carry them..
>>
>>657322
If you think 2 is 1 and 1 is none, then 2 is none.
Whatever you pack, you must take care of your stuff. I see a knife with 3 blades and some leather stealth.

I haven't seen the wood stove, but if you have one, why do you carry an heavy axe and a saw? Your hands are all you need to collect the small wood it require.

If you want to stay out longer, you will need more size on your bag, and anyway, you should not compress the sleeping bag (in blue?) too much.
>>
>>657325
the blue bag holds my trail blanket.
how do u suppose i process wood for my stove if all i have is an opinel?
everything is always wet here so i have to get larger pieces of wood to get at the dry stuff in the center..
>>
>>657327
So, where is your sleeping bag and your tent?

Brushwood are easy to find dry, and they does not burn a lot of time, but they make a strong flame. Just keep the fire going.
From what I understand, you only stay out for one or two days. If it is the case, the wood would be lighter than the axe.

>>
>>657328
not sure what brushwood is.. its mostly coniferous woodlands here.
when my fiance comes out overnight we carry more stuff like a tent and proper sleeping bags - the setup in the pic is what i carry when its just me and the dog.. it works for me so wheres your setup?
also how would u justify carrying a nights worth of wood into the forest? hows that lighter than carrying an axe!?!
>>
>>657348
I mean just tinny part of wood. You don't need to cut wood if you can just gather the one of the good size.

Do you really let the fire going all the night? You are like, asleep then.

I have an old as fuck bag that need a replacement since 10 years ago, from 3 to 8 days of food, rain clothes, a sweet shirt if it get cold and 2 L of water.

I cook on a gas stove, mostly soup and Chinese noddles, or I make sandwich and eat dry fruits. This is probably why I don't understand the need for something as heavy than an axe.

To sleep, I have a sleeping bag rated -5°c but it is old and I think I should not use it under +5°c, a 2person tent and a polyurethane mattress severely damaged but I don't care.

And a lot of small things that I am not going to list here.
>>
>>657437
fair enough, your responses are reasonable - too many people on here offer critique without ever setting foot in a forest.. i realise i carry too much but it works for me and i go out all the time.
i dont know what your climate is like but where i am it rains all the time - any wood like you describe is always soaked through - i would give up my knives before my axe - it really is that useful to me. the weight is negligable compared to what it does for me.. besides its a tomahawk, it doesnt weigh too much.
>>
>>657335

You obviously don't believe that because you have one of many things in that pic
>>
>>657607
i dont believe much at all..
i know i carry more than i should but what i have works for me. i carry redundant items where it counts the most for my environment.
quit trolling and go enjoy the outdoors - its nice out there.
>>
>>657501
To be completely fair, I don't go in the wood. One more reason for the gas stove.
I get out in summer, sometime spring, so wetness is not an issue for me. I still think you need only one knife and you can let the saw at home.

Compass and FAK might be handy.
Maybe something to cook in if you're taking food. If not you might not need the fork.
Apart from that pretty good.
>>
>>657666
Well I have a compass app in the phone but no real need for it desu since I live in a relatively small country. As far as fak goes I carry some paracetemol pills only, If something serious happens I will be fucked anyways with a small fak, so I don't care even carrying it. Also I forgot to put my campingaz stove in the image, it's how I cook my food.

I have 180 acres to my own here with my Dad owning all of the area around it for 1,000+ acres. My dad said that anytime I want to take full responsibility and care for our cattle, horses, pheasants, pigs, and goats I can have the rest of all the land.

My best advice for land ownership that I can give to /out/ is this; If you acquire land never divide it for your children, it's unlikely that each of them will show interest and the lure of just selling it and making money is too great for them. That's why in Texas you have countless properties that are each 10-25 acres. Instead give it to one son, that's why my family still owns every square foot of land that we've had since the 1800s.
>>
>>657993
You can easily state in transfer of ownership any covenant to prevent this
