Hey, /out/. I am building a camping/survival kit in a waterproof crate in the bed of my truck, and I am almost finished, I just need advice for what is the best multi-purpose rope I can purchase.

Multi-purpose as in hanging a tarp/hammock, and hoisting sacks of food or equipment off of the ground, etc. What do you think?

Also rope thread

3/4 inch 2500 lb mule tape.

I found some on eBay for pretty cheap, would this be advisable to buy it from there or should I get it from a Gander Mountain/Academy instead? I don't believe it would matter, but I am relatively new to equipment knowledge.

Mule tape comes in different widths and strength ratings. As long as it's the size and strength you need and is labeled on the tape then I don't think it matters where you get it.
>>
>>652185
Good deal, it did say 3/4 2500 on the posting. I'll get it there, thanks!
>>
>>652180
you should probably just buy alot of 550 cord
>>
>>652193
You can tow a car with 2500 lb rope. Not so much with 550.
>>
Make sure you get a static rope.
>>
>>652183
We have a crapload of this from when my father-in-law worked for the phone company. It's pretty awesome for pretty much anything. It's pretty slick, so if you suck at tying knots, you will have problems.
>>
Would you be able to say, dangle from a cliff with 550 cord?
>>
>>653249
Well, I weigh less than 550 lbs...

>doesn't make it ideal, though
>>
>>652180
Solid-braid dacron, preferably 1/4" for finer work and 3/4" for heavy-duty applications but 3/8 is a good compromise.

Good luck finding some.
>>
>>653249
Light weight person, fresh rope, max strength knots, yes.

Average weight person, used rope, random knots, your gonna die.
>>
>>653357
paracord was not meant to support the entire weight of a human single thread just double it up as many times as you need
paracord of the same weight per feet will support you as any rope.
>>
Aborist throw rope is great stuff. Small di, non-stretch and weight bearing.

I'd make sure to have both static and non-static cord, maybe even some lengths of spliced amsteel - they're very useful to have in general (tow rope, suspension replacement, etc)

>>653249
Wouldn't risk it. Hell I wouldn't even hang a hammock on paracord. Not designed for this application.
>>
>>653460
Still too stretchy though.
>>
>>653589
yeah it's not a climbing rope but it will do in a pinch. i have seen guys rappelling on 2 threads even but more often 4 threads are used if enough paracord is available.
>>
>>652269
maybe both is a good idea then.
>>
>>653460
You can do this with dental floss, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
