if you're near similar valley, ojai is a cool place to /out/ nothing like Washington though

San Bernardino National Forest, Sierra Nevada, Big Bear, Cleveland National Forest, Joshura Tree National Park. All great places to start if you're unfamiliar with the area.

I live down LA, you can stealth camp within the mountains which can be fun. If you are up for a drive you can go to tons of places like Big Sur, Yosemite, Sierra Nevada, Joshua Tree, Big Basin, etc, just takes more time

If you're looking for a little bit of day hiking there are a few trails in arroyo Verde park, just north of the community college. You'd only need a couple bottles of water and a light snack for most of the trails, but it's all on hilly terrain. If you've got a free day I'd definitely recommend as the view from the top of those hills is beautiful.
