Love the Osprey stuff, got a couple myself and probably won't buy another brand unless my next pack is just shoddy.
Some really good features, well thought out, well built, light and comfy. Everything you need and not TOO expensive.
>>
Got the Osprey Atmos 65 AG backpack
>>
>>641848
i have this pack
you really can't go wrong
especially with the lifetime warranty
>>
I personally have the ariel 65 (women's version of the aether) and it is awesome.
Extremely comfortable, bit of back ventilation, can handle crazy loads (I think 50 pounds if you want to be comfortable). Felt good. Very comfy. Good load transfer. Osprey has a lifetime warranty and will fix or replace any defect or even if you fucked it up
Very durable. Lifetime bag
Comparable is Gregory's "baltoro"

nothing wrong with gaiters. although the knee high ones she's wearing seem a bit excessive for the terrain in the photo

Those colors are great. I'm thinking of getting one of them myself. Got several other Osprey bags and they've all served me exceptionally.

I need a cheap but sturdy backpack

something under 100$ that should last a while nicely, going to be doing urban backpacking and hiking. any recommendations?

Bought this pack two months ago, really worth its weight in gold.
>>
I was just looking at this exact bag with my bro, it looks great and can tell its a real good quality bag, and with a warranty like that it's worth every penny
>>
>>642294
>>642329
My experience with this pack hasn't been great, although I don't know if you two have the same thoughts as I do.

I feel like the brain of the pack is awkward when stuffed and I'm always hitting it with the back of my head. Lowering the brain with its straps make it sit awkwardly low towards the rear. I severely dislike how the webbed pouch on the rear exterior is a pain to get into when the pack is fully stuff, it becomes too taught to store anything inside except for maps I've found. And the amount of compression straps on the outside drive me up the wall, they're always getting in the way and hanging around and I never use them. Finally, I dislike the pouches on the sides of the packs, they're alright for holding tent stakes or some other tall skinny object, but for holding water bottles, they're atrocious, and the lower opening they have is nearly inaccessible with the pack on and also incompatible with the taller 1.5 liter nalgenes.

Sorry for the rant. Otherwise, the pack does fit me very well and distributes weight well, I just hate actually doing anything with it besides wearing it. Also it stands up when you set it down without falling over...personal pref I appreciate.

I took a chance on the larger size of that pack, maybe 4000, cant remember exactly.
Got it in, put it on and immediately shipped it back for a return.

If you like quality then this is not it. Maybe good for an intro beginners pack or something but I wouldn't recommend.

It really depends what you plan on doing with your pack and what you plan on putting in it. I've seen a ton of Ospary packs on the trail and they are just fine. Seen them go for thousands of miles and the warranty and customer service is great. With that being said, I feel like its a very boy-scout-basic-bitch company. Osprey is the ENO of packs. Might not be a popular opinion, but I know a lot of experienced backpackers who agree with me. You should check out the ULA Circuit or the Granite Gear Crown VC. If you can, go put one on in your local oufiter and walk around in it. Make sure it fits. Start reading tons of reviews and check out videos on packs that interest you. Also start considering the base weight of your gear and what pack will accommodate it.
>>
>>641848
I got the Deuter Futura pro 36 because I sweat like a stuck pig squeels and the AirComfort (a tense mesh that creates a 1,5 inch gap between my back and the pack) allows me to evaporate that moisture and get rid of what used to be a permanent wet patch where my pack meets my back.
It sacrifices little in terms of weight distribution as far as I can tell from using it but maybe some others here might feel differently.

It is easily the best pack i have ever used or felt.
The materials the compartments , everything
It also comes with a raincover.
10/10 would reccomend if money is not a problem
>>
>>641848
shits comfy dude. I got the 60L and it's awesome. Especially once you heat mold the hip belt. Oh man. Only thing it's missing is better water bottle pockets IMO.
>>
>>642817
What size, as in liters?

Also, if you know your back size, like S/M/L, you can check geartrade and craigslist.

You could also go milsurp. You'll be uncomfortable but it'll be cheap and sturdy.
>>
>>643828
>http://www.fjallraven.com/kajka-65
7 pounds for that pack is pretty heavy. And 350 bucks?

End of the day, it's just about how it fits your back really. If it fits well buy it. Don't buy it for the bullshit wood frame or whatever.

You can't go wrong with the Kajka.
I have the 75l version, and it's fucking bulletproof, never let me down.

I use it for any hike longer than three days innawoods or two over the treeline. Also used it for island-hopping in Greece. Definitely my go-to bag.

I use the Kelty PK 50. It was fairly cheap at $150, holds all of my equipment and is pretty comfortable. My first pack.
>>
>>645424
did you get that off with normal usage or with abuse?
i'm asking because i have a similar clip on my tnf backpack and want to know how much it can take.

if you don't care for looks cut the stopper at the top or bottom off the rail off, put it on and then sew/ glue a new stopper on the rail.
>>
>>645751
Abuse. I wasn't looking and pulled down on it, thinking it was the little strap that adjusted the shoulder strap, and it just popped right off
>>
>>645874

Put it in hot water to soften it up a bit before trying to reattach.

The Osprey 65 AG EX Pack looks like a toad with downs
>>
>>641862
I would advise you pass, I have that exact model and it doesn't quite fit my chest. Because it is slightly too small it bunches up my shoulders after a couple miles
>>
not one external frame.

truly we live in the future. what a wonderful place.
>>
>>644087
You can slip some foam on those steps for some padding.
>>
>>641862
I had a friend who wore one on a 15 mile trip, it was comfy but the hip belt sits too high to use effectively.
>>
>>642396
Kill yourself
>>
>>645424
My backpack has the same thing on it and it happened to me once. I got some plyers and pinched the very end of the round edge it goes on flat and it slides right on now. Doesn't fall off because I don't slide it that far down.
>>
>>641848
I have the Aether 70, it's pretty comfy and has more space than I need. Have a Mutant 38 too and it's a pretty decent for short trips, has good support, great carry-on and whatnot. Pity it doesn't open from the front like the Aether does, but I guess I could easily save space and make things easier to get at by only having merino wool and linen clothes, towels.

I have the 4000. Overall I'd say it's fine for a beginner pack. I don't backpack that much, but wanted a bag dedicated for camping stuff. For $60 I think it's a good bag to try out and see what you like and don't like about it.

Maybe I'm biased because it was issued kit, but the 82" pattern Canadian ruck is the best goddamn external frame pack I've ever tried.

I've done forced marches, field ex, and hiking with friends while carrying sleeping bag, tent, food and all the miscellaneous kit I need and it's so goddamn comfortable I love it. It's solved most of the problems that you have to fix up an ALICE pack for, but that's my opinion.

Troll? have you ever hiked with a frameless pack? I've been hiking with this one for 12 years about. Never any back issues or discomfort. I'm usually carrying 20lbs or so. This and some trail runners and Im putting in big miles at a fast pace.

You really dont need a frame unless youre afraid of being outside and want to carry your house on your back.
