Pic is .243 exit wound on spine shot at 180 yards. .243 will fuck shit up. If you need bigger it's because your woman is a loose whore.

Not for whitetails it ain't.
>>
>>635997
I might be alone here but I just use iron sights.
>>
>>635997
you guys need larger than 223? Seems pretty laugh worthy.

Depends where I'm going and what I'm after really, one of my rifles has a 6.5-20x50 Simmons Whitetail and the other has a 2-7x33 Leupold vx-1 but money no object I'd be shopping for a 6x scope like a Bushnell 6500 or a Leupold VX-6 in 2-12 or 2.5-16.

>>636262
I do nearly all my shooting somewhere between dusk and dawn and irons just don't work at night, YMMV but I just can't see them, maybe I should try some flouro paint.

Savage 110 .243 that I got for my 13th birthday. I replaced the shitty Blazer scope it came with with a Nikon Buckmasters 3-9x40 when I was 22.

I really want a tikka t3 or something similar in .308 or 30-06 even though I know .243 is more than adequate for whitetail. A new rifle would be better for my Alaskan adventure fantasies which will never come into fruition.

This one has served me damn well though. Stock is beat to shit. I should sand and refinish it.

243 is an excellent caliber for whitetails.

If you buy lighter gr ammo, you can use it for woodchucks, coyotes, racoons, ect ect.

Heavier loads are great for whitetail deer.

Personally I think a caliber like a 25-06 is about ideal for whitetails, or 7mm-08. Those 2 calibers are almost identical with the same gr. You can go heavier gr with the 7mm-08 and lower gr with the 25-06.
>>
>>636074
Nice shot placement you no shooting dipshit. At least 1 tenderloin is BTFO.
>>
>>635997
Kimber Montana in 243 AI, with a 6x SWFA MQ. Use it for whitetail durr here in the midwest, pronghorn and elk out west, and blacktail durr and caribou in AK.
>>
All depends on where you are I'm in the southeast ie sc and I use a 270. Which is honestly almost to fast get a lot of almost survivable pass throughs but I don't have any 600 yard lines of sight so 243 would be just fine here
>>
>>636741
Actually both tenderloins were fine, they're smaller than hotdogs though.
>>
>>636748
>almost survivable pass throughs
Wut lol
>>
>>636748
Hilariously, 243 Win loads are typically higher velocity than 270 Win, when comparing their respective ends of weight spectrums.

But you don't know that because you don't know what you are talking about. If you're shooting a bullet that fails to perform across all impact velocities it might see, you are done before you start regardless of headstamp.

TL,DR: Bullets matter more than headstamps.

Why would it deer lick the truck bed? Gah those things are stupid.
>>
>>635997
Well that all depends OP, I generally hunt in dense forest in the Northeast, so I use a Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70 with Iron Sights, but it may get a reflex red dot in the near future. for longer range when I lived in Colorado I have a Ruger 77 in .30-06 with a Nikon Bullet Drop Compensator 3-9x on it.I also ocassonally hunt Whitetails from a treestand with a GP-100 in .357 and I have an antique Savage 99 in 30-30 but that is mostly retired nowadays. I also have a Mossberg 500 with a slug barrel for shotgun only areas.
>>
>>637422
> I retired the best gun I own and the only gun I ever needed

Fortunately, it isn't about need.
>>
>>637430
Right? It is the best gun and the only one I needed, but it was a gift from someone who isn't around anymore and the stock is rather fragile now. I still hunt with it but if its raining or I'm going to be hoofing it a long way, it stays home. It doesn't have a sling because I didn't want to drill into the beautiful wood. The 45-70 was kind of a necessity as 30-30 makes a poor round for moose.
>>
>>636262
Iron sights don't work well in that magic 15 minute period before sunset or after sunrise. I use an old 30-30 when I'm stalking in the midday though.
>>
>>635997
RWS vs rabbits. They have fiber optic iron sights.
>>
>>636990
.243 also experiences worse wind drift and starts to tumble before .270 with a comparable bullet.

You were 50 yards away and you shot it there????
>>
>>636074
>>637046

I thought Americans could shoot, this is a shitty waste of meat not mention ethically you should be killing the animal as fast as possible.
>>
>>639275
Not to mention at 50 yards it should present well for a shot the chest. If you can't kill it ethically, don't take the shot. Wait for another presentation.

Remington Model 6700 30-06
Leupold 4-12X40mm
>>
>>636364
How come you have that huge muzzle brake on a .308? A bipod seems a strange choice on a rifle with iron sights. Otherwise, I like your rifle.
>>
>>636741
Along the back is loin (aka backstrap), not tenderloin.
>>
>>636351
Yeah, the great thing about a savage is you're not gonna be scared to beat it around a bit.

The Tikka is a very nice rifle. I prefer the Browning xbolt a bit. Can't go wrong with either 308 or 30-06
>>
>>636364
I took another look and noticed all the aftermarket garbage you threw on. I changed my mind. Your file is a piece of shit. Way to ruin a classy gun faggot.
>>
>>636262
I'm getting a bit on in years and my eyes have trouble these days with iron sights. I like a 3-9x40 leupold or zeiss with a basic duplex reticle.
>>
>>636740
7mm 08 is dandy for moose and elk as well. A 243 is a bit light for anything bigger than deer in my mind simply because if I mess up a shot it'll have a much better chance of breaking the shoulder.
>>
>>637045
that's fucking hot...post a pic faggot
>>
I love my savage axis in 30-06. Has pepper laminate boyd's thumbhole stock, glass bedded, dnz one piece scope mount and a vortex crossfire 4-12x44mm scope bdc reticle. And the ubiquitous diy trigger job.

Everyone shits on the axis, but I outshoot guys with much nicer set ups at every competition I've gone to and couldn't be happier.
