i can't really play properly and people hate it, so it's lots of fun. i don't bring my acouie /out/, too big and too expensive. i also have an egg shaker i should bring, and maybe pick-up some cheep bongos so we can have a real pow-wow round the fire.

I sometimes hit sticks against different trees and assess the noise they make.

Most of the noises sound similar to that of 'a stick hitting a tree', but occasionally you get the 'sound of a stick hitting a rotten tree', or even the 'sound of sticks snapping after being hit by a stick', but's that's quite rare and can often break the hitting stick, which in itself is quite a pleasing sound but has depressing undertones as it means that you need to find a new hitting stick.

yes we are, and listening to it as well! i'm hoping to get many more stereo contact mic recordings now that i finally have proper hi-Z preamps for them. train rails, rushing water, etc.

Cool! Reminds a bit of a sailing ship.
I've done the train rail bit already; you can stick a bare piezo to the side of the tracks using small magnets. Beware of the dynamics when a train passes - it has been sufficient to use the track next to the train to pick up its signal without clipping.

My recording app hates me so doing another recording then uploading. Here's my ocarinas.
>>
>>622639
yeah I have the magnets ready, but also clamps and sticky-tack. my preamps have a ton of headroom and a -20dB pad so I was certainly planning on using the pad! also there's a big 100+yr old iron trestle nearby that you can get under so i was also going to mic-up the bridge, which should be less deafening than the rails themselves.

also using sticky-tack buffers the level a bit so that's an option. two of mine are bare plasti-dipped piezos and the other two are in plastic enclosures with suction cups (like the ones in my pic). i'll probably be bringing the suction cup ones, even though they're too thick to use magnets. they sound a lot better and they also match, the bare ones sound completely different from one another and it makes stereo really difficult.

Which gives me the idea to mic a train bridge.
Tests have shown that bare piezos are quite robust against rust (mostly brass), so i just sealed the connections with a bit of hot glue. I only record mono, as the results will be used as fx drenched in more fx in music anyway.

Are you by any chance the jecklin disc anon?
>>
>>622667
I used plasti-dip to hold it all together, and i wanted to make sure they could get wet without shorting out at all. the piezo discs have been abused and aren't the best shape anymore really, but the new ones (designed for acoustic guitars) sound fantastic and i waterproofed them as well. the only downside is the magnet trick won't work with them because they're too thick now... i'm hoping i can rig a mount up so i can use the magnets still. either way the suction cups might work or at least sticky tack.

>Are you by any chance the jecklin disc anon?
the one and the same ^_^

I was thinking about taking a concert flute, a clarinet, and some basic native style flutes out on the pct with me. Yes, I know it'd be a serious hassle but I think it might be worth it. I was curious though if there are ordinances about tearing it up on the clarinet out in nature and scarin the animals but I searched on the Google and nothing came up.
>>
>>622937
I used to bring a ukulele until I switched to maining mandolin. I haven't touched my ukulele in quite some time.
>>
>>626292
Terrible.
Ukes are great just because you can grab a $30 cheapie that sounds and plays alright and if it gets trahed innawoods, oh well.
I do love mandolin. I just haven't been motivated enough to make one to learn on yet.

Usually I bring my banjo, since a guitar makes me look like an insufferable faggot.
If I want to be an insufferable faggot, I bring my bagpipes. Nothing like sitting in the fog out at bwca playing Cliffs of Doneen or Minstrel Boy, or walking along a trail in the early hours of the morning doing the same.
It's a little hard to carry a pack and play the pipes at the same time, but you get used to it. It's harder to find a way to stow them when they're not in use, since they don't make bagpipe scabbards.

I also sometimes bring a ukulele, and play tiptoe through the tulips. It's the only song I can play on the uke.
