Talk about fishin
>>
>>1093995
Anyone get those monthly LTBs? Are they worth it?
>>
>>1094000
Never worth it full price.
>>
>>1093882
People who fish a lot tend to buy good shit, no matter their income level, because they know it matters.
They've seen what happens if they don't, and most people aren't into watching money burn.
The poors just buy their good shit less often.

>>1093886
Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Use about twice as much salt as you think you need.
In a skillet, put 1/2tbsp oil and 1/2tbsp butter in the bottom; get it hot and smoking. Put filets in meat side down for 1 to 1-1/2 minutes, then flip and finish up skin side down. They are done when the rib bones easily pop out of the meat when you run your spatula along them.
Remove from pan immediately and serve. They will be insanely good.

>>1093991
>>1093998
>this guy again
Because wild caught is twice as good as farmed and wild populations can sustain small scale harvest just fine. We've been over this.
Besides, WANTING to eat wild caught fish isn't poverty-tier, HAVING to is.
He doesn't HAVE to, he WANTS TO, because it really does taste so much better.
The occasional meal from even quite contaminated waters is just fine. And most waters aren't even that contaminated anymore. 40+ years of clean water legislation and holding polluting businesses financially liable for cleanup has really done wonders for water quality.

Also,
>7.5lb pike
>rare as hen's teeth
Pick one.
A healthy watershed with northern pike will often have populations of fish well over 10lbs. Taking a 7.5lb pike is like taking a 4lb bass-it's not the end of the world.
>>
well im feeling a lot better, so i tied up another pike fly, and im about to head down to a section of river i hear has pike
>>
How do you guys cook your fish?
>>
>>1093995
>7.5lb pike
>decent size
Where I live we don't even bother keeping anything under 36" because you don't get shit-all for meat off them.
>>
>>1094000
Not LTB but MTB, and fuck no.
First one (with the $10 off coupon) was awesome. Second one (full price) was decent. Subsequent ones they either outright left shit out or grossly over-valued everything to well above listed MSRP, which I have proven with screencaps in these threads.
>tfw $10 flipping hook is listed on the hook's own website for $5.49 for a 4pk
>>
>>1094021
Usually with heat

But seriously, 99% of my fish I filet and grill. Occasionally if I have a bunch of dink crappie or get into some good cold-water creek chub or something I'll tempura batter and fry.
>>
>>1094027
You don't' have to cook with heat anon, try making ceviche

>>
>>1094032
You actually do have to cook with heat, it's kind of a requirement to be considered COOKING. Otherwise it's simply preparing food.
>>
>>1094045
I guess technically, but check this out. Pretty interesting stuff.
Technically speaking, cooking requires heat, so ceviche (also known as seviche or cebiche), a dish in which raw fish is marinated in citrus juice, isn't cooked. But it's not exactly raw, either. Both heat and citric acid are agents of a chemical process called denaturation.
>>
anyone know what the best hook size for trout is? i have a spinning rod and will be using stuff like worms, powerbait dough and eggs ect.
>>
>>1094056
No one hook is going to do all of that.
>powerbait dough
Anywhere from a #18 to a #12 treble
>trout worms
#8 or #10 circle, #12 baitholder, #10 Aberdeen
>eggs
There's like a bajillion sizes of egg. Buy the eggs, take the jar with you, buy an egg hook that fits the egg.
>>
>>1094021
Usually pan fry.
Brother's family likes them skinned, breaded and crispy; I like them skin on, no breading and tender.
>>
>>1094000
I think you def get your $15 worth. I did 3mos with the $10 off coupon, so it was like $11 per box. That's what I would spend on on Rapala so as long as I got one bait I could actually use a month, I was straight.

Been a while since I last posted a catch.
Probably the biggest fish I ever caught on a fly (pls no bully). Bonneville cutthroat I believe. Was bretty proud. Might go up to a place I know with kokanee salmon. Caught a red spawning salmon but didn't have my phone for a picture so I want to go back and get one. Plus, they put up a good fight. Any tips on fly fishing salmon? Seems a bit more difficult to get them to bite.

3rd cast.jpg

>>1094014
here's my report. i started off rocky, pic related was my 3rd cast. about 10 minutes later, i fell off a log in to shin-deep water and sank up to my waist in muck. needless to say my phone doesnt turn on any more. but i pulled my self out, washed off in a riffle, and got back to fishing. i couldnt figure a cadence, it was probably 30 minutes of nothing, then suddenly, while i was fucking around (not even trying just watching my streamer and the actions i could make it do) i figured out how to make it swim with little 4 inch strips. literally 40 inches of stripping in to that playing around i saw a golden green flash and my rod nearly pulled from my hand. i set the hook as soon as i realised what happened, but nothing. i made the cast again, with the same cadence, and he took my fly again. this time i had him, though. i was ready to do a strip set, and i nailed him beautifully, the hook went down throuth the under side of his mouth completely. my first pike on fly was a 20 inch fatty, that blew any bass i've ever hooked out of the water for fight.
as i was unhooking him, i got the hook out, but he refused to let go of my fly for a good 20 seconds after i put him back in the water.
the second fish i got wasnt even hooked, he just let me strip him in because he wouldnt let go of it.
one fish swiped at my fly 3 times and never found the hook. every other fish, i hooked beautifully. it was a solid hook-up but i didnt even need pliers because it was right on the edge of the mouth. all in all, i had 6 pike hit, and i landed 5 of them
i also got a 10.5 inch smallie,, and had a 4 inch green sunfish curiously nip at the tail of my fly.
all in all, 9/10 day, would be 10/10 if i had pictures of the fish.
>>1094034
id that a little hybrid striper?
>>1094146
i hope you harvested that fish, because its probably dead because of the slime wearing off on that rock. other than that, decent trout, id take it any day of the week and twice on sunday
>>
>>1094163
Nah, I let him free, didn't have ice. Plus, I wasn't expecting anything that big.
Concerning the slime, he was in the water/in my net up until that picture and quickly put back. The temperature was cool, but the lighting makes it look unrelenting. He was good.
>>
>>1094137
I'm not even big on eating fish but damn that looks good. I think perch is my favorite fish to eat.

>>1094163

>>
>>1094169
>Stopped reading right there
good for you
>>1094167
i hope the rock was at least a little wet then. fucking up fish slime is a real detrimental thing to a fish. even the pike i was landing spent all of about 15 seconds out of water just while i got the hook out. i even measured them under water by holing them by the head and putting a little tape measure along their side.
also
>>1094146
>Seems a bit more difficult to get them to bite.
salmon are hard to get to eat, but the challenge is half the fun. just go in to the fly shop and get something between 8 and 10 weight (depending on the size of the fish) and talk to the shop keep. also, dont floss them, please, its literally re-branded snagging.
>>
>>1094178

Neither am I. I only like eating fish if it's fresh and of one of these species: perch, walleye, crappie, gills. Other then that I could care less

Got this little chunk while I was out there too. Also caught my first white perch despite fishing that lake we were at my whole life lol.

Pretty short but he has a little gut on him. They are the best part about perch fishing. You'll just be chillin' trying to find drop offs where the perch will be schooling and all the sudden one of these fraight trains start screening line out my ultra light.

This is the white perch I got
>>
>>1094209
smallies on ultralight is never boring
i remember i used to have a 7 foot ultralight and i spooled it with 4 lb and i would go down to this one spot with those tiny strike king square bills in white, and just slay 12-14 inch smallies, and even got a 13 inch crappie doing that.

They're nothing special but decent enough. If nothing else, you'll get your money's worth out of it.

For best results, buy a tube of reel grease and a bottle of reel oil, and lube up the reel inside and out. Grease goes on the internal gears and spindle, oil on the bail bits and line roller.
If the gears inside it aren't thrashed, it'll run like a champ for a long time afterward.

Yellow mackerels, lesser amberjacks and perch and other rock fish usually roasted on coals with oregano when ready splashed a bit with a mix of raw olive oil and lemon juice. Bigger fish like amberjacks or groupers boiled or steamed with potatoes thinly sliced leek and green onions. In the rare chance of tuna a bit of sashimi with soy sauce and lemon for the parts close to the anal fin and near the head and the rest filleted into steaks either roasted or shimmered on a pan with a little bit of olive oil.

Depends. If you've got heavy overhead cover like lilies or yonka pads, frogs can produce all day long even after a cold front. Otherwise, like the rest of summer you're pretty much limited to nighttime and within an hour of sunset/sunrise.

Alright so I recently got a 10 ft surf rod for free
Broke as fuck right now so I don't have a reel for it other than an old Penn long beach (conventional reel rod is spinning)

I know some manufacturers use blanks specific to the reel type but I'm not super worried about it
Older rod (circa 1995)

Hey Guys so i am getting more into fly fishing.

I currently just tie a fly onto a fluoro leader and cast on my 6'6" stcroix avid

I 3d printed a fly reel, and i am wondering if i can get a good rod recommendatioon, i am considering this

https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/68706?attrValue_0=Green&csp=a

especially with 25%, this comes out to 91 bucks i think and it comes with that llbean return policy,

What fly line would you guys recommend to go with this rod and a 3d printed fly reel?

Any other recommendation ideas?

im trying to keep everything under $150 i already have flys and 8 lb fluoro leader,
ORRRRRRRRRRRR

Do i spend 190 and get a tenkara sato outfit?

Depends on the fish/size. If it's anything like a small bluegill/crappie/panfish I will fry it whole. Something like flounder I find better if it's left on the bone and baked in the oven. Taste delicious. On fish like redfish, specks, etc I filet them and blackened them.

I've seen surfers cross to the other side of the pier by swimming under it. I wonder if you can throw a gotcha plug or a ranger at them with out any legal issues. Technically he's in an area he's not supposed to be in.
>>
>>1094755
It's extra shit on the line so sensitivity goes down, it's usually the weak link in a setup unless you're using a comparatively huge one (or one of the really expensive ones), it's more knots which means more opportunities for you to have fucked up tying them, they hurt the action of a lot of different types of lures, and it's extra shit for the fish to see.

Okay, what fish will you be going for? 3D printed fly reels generally don't have anything that even masquerades as a drag, which is fine for things like bluegill and stream trout, but if you're going after bass or larger you'll probably have to also buy a regular commercial reel with a drag.

Anyway, my recommendations, by price bracket:
>Cabela's 3 Forks
Good rod, can be had on sale for ~$50. Definitely the price:perf king in the cheap bracket.
>Echo Base
Better rod, normally retails ~$110 and can be had on sale for ~$90. If you absolutely cannot afford better, this is the rod to get.
>Echo Solo
Hands-down the best (lower weight) rod available for under $250, maybe even for under $300. I got mine for $90 on a hell of a sale, normally retails for ~$130. Basically the older, slightly better brother of the Echo Base. Only available in 4wt and 5wt as far as I've seen though. Definitely buy if you can get it under $110.

The other option is to check Ebay for something like a Redington Path. Gander Mountain, which is now out of business, carried them so a lot of people bought them up for $30-40 on clearance (Gander sold them for $110) and are trying to flip them on Ebay. Don't pay over $50 for one, but they're a decent rod in 7wt or 8wt. Nothing special, but they fish. Quality wise they're slightly worse than a 3 Forks, but potentially can be had enough cheaper to be worth it.

As far as cheap-but-good reels, I would have to recommend an Okuma Sierra. Can be routinely had for ~$35, and they're solid. Next step up for me would be an Okuma SLV, which are like $65 on Amazon.
>>
>>1094774
Oh, also. The Cabela's 3 Forks is available as a combo with a reel for ~$70 on sale. The reel is pretty mediocre, but will last long enough to get you more into it and willing to spend money on a better one when it dies (it will die). It also has a pretty good warranty, so if it dies early they'll fix or replace it for free.

Granted I don't fish the humongous 8" long saltwater spoons, but on normal bass-sized ones it actually hurts the action and causes them to run to the side.

I explored a section north of what I normally fish. It's known to hold trout with trout reproducing in a brook a bit north of it (which is mostly on private property ofc)
And I did see some rainbows to confirm it.

Something other than the redbreast and smallies hits my lure, and I thought it was a trout as I got it swimming towards me, net it. pic related. Fally had me fooled :)

I explore downstream, and unfortunately got to this deep spot I couldnt wade through. This section wasnt "trouty" at all but upon maps I see it does get bendy and runny again more south, which I can hit from another park access.

Hey guys. I'm an absolute beginner when it comes to fishing. Read up in the pastebins and the image collection and have gone fishing a total of 2 times, caught one tiny trout but gave it to the group next to me who were taking it home to eat.

This is going to be a really stupid series of questions, but what do you do when you catch the fish? I mean, if you do catch and release, what should you do after removing the hook as carefully as possible? Just throw the fish back or something? Also, if you're taking the fish home to eat, what should you have handy to keep the fish alive/transport home? A cooler with ice? Wet towels? Some sort of container with water?
>>
>>1095045
Lower it into the water if you can, it should shoot out of your hands if is healthy. If not, try to gently rock it left and right to force water (and oxygen) through it's gills and wake it up. Usually I hold it by the tail and just kind of wiggle it. For keeping, kill it, gut it, throw it on ice in a cooler. Cheap styrofoam coolers work well.
>>
>>1095045
Get a picture if it's a good sized fish or a species you've never caught before.

If not, just lower it back. Try not to drop it if you can

>if you do catch and release, what should you do
for the love of god, crush your barbs. wet your hands before you touch them, keep them in the water as much as possible, and when you let it go, gently cradle it under the water and let it swim when it's ready to go
>what should you have handy to keep the fish alive/transport home
a $0.99 wal-mart stringer works just fine for keeping them alive, and then for the trip home you have two options. if its not far, just throw them in a bucket of water and put it in your car. if its a longer distance, ice and a cooler is better.

Depends
It's a decent enough selection, but nothing is so uncommon that it's especially rare or valuable.

The three frog lures on the very bottom are cheapshit Creme ones that you can buy at Walmart for $1 each.
The rapalas and yo-Zuris in the top right corner (if they're real-MUST have the name on them) retail for $8 each, but this isn't retail.
The rest are common poppers and cranks that go for $4-6.
Used prices: about 1/4 of new. The three cheapass frogs and the spinner I price at 25-50 cents each,
Any Rapalas and Yo-Zuris for 2.50 each,
and the rest of the lures for $1 each.

If it were me, I'd feel comfortable buying them for $30-45, but ask him his price first. If he asks you, offer $30 first, with wiggle room for him to talk you up to 40 because "you're buying some really good stuff". If it's that much, pay the man, shake his hand and walk out of there knowing you got a good deal.

$40-50 or so, grumble that you don't really fish with lures, you don't really know how to use them, and you probably won't use all of them anyway (which is true). See if he can tell you how to use them and maybe knock off a few bucks.
Over $50, talk him back down or if you can't, walk away and get the lures YOU want to buy one by one. Some of that stuff is good and works (the spinner, the yo-zuris and rapalas) but most of it isn't that great and will just sit in your tackle box.

Gulfstream lures flairhawk because they're high quality and really cheap. Don't get First Light jigs since they look like they were made by a drunk toddler and they fall apart quickly.

Keep in mind flair hawks are made to be used from bridges. Get 1 oz for shallow or low tide fishing, 1 and a half oz for high tide fishing and 2 oz for really heavy current.

Best colors are white with blue or red tail for day time clear water. Chartreuse with blue or red tail for night time or dirty water.

If you want some that work for casting from shore get a gulfstream skimmer hawk since they come in lighter weights like 3/4 oz.

Something struck me the other day while browsing the local fising shops... the blatant copying of successful/popular/good lures.
Leftmost is Snurrebassen, afaik the 'original' (in Denmark at least), middle and right are copies from bigger companies.
Action is very vivid and during spinstops it rotates around its own axis. All in all a quite effective lure.
Snurrebassen being handmade is in short supply which sucks when you want to (over)fill your box. Makes me kindda sad when I can't get what I want and support innovative luremakers but have to buy from the copycats.
>>
>>1095703
its disappointing to get copy cat knock offs, but sometimes when the original isnt handy, you have to rock a knockoff. but buy the originals when you can, its the only way he can get his production high enough to reduce the knock-off market

none of these are rapalas and I'm doubtful that there are Yo Zuris in there but hard to say. 30-40 is probably fair.
>>
Lads I have a problem with my first memecaster. I can't cast anything lighter than 3/8 oz without a little bit of backlash. Nothing major, just doesn't pull out line like I would like. The rod is rated for lures down to 3/16 oz, but I'm mainly thinking 1/4 oz lures and up. I have 14# line on.

Is it the line weight that won't let me cast 1/4 oz lures?

That looks like fake crap so I wouldn't even consider buying it. I've had a few cheapo jerkbaits/crankbaits and its impossible to get them swimming right.
>>
>>1095969
Aren't you supposed to put your finger or thumb on the reel of a baitcaster just before it hits the water to stop it fucking up
>>
>>1095973
If you're spear fishing then yes
>>
>>1095979
What about axe fishing?
>>
>>1095969
It's the fact you need to change your cast control and spool tension settings if you're trying to throw ultralight lures.

>>1095973
Yes. If the fish can see you they might develop a case of lockjaw. It's far more important in heavily pressured areas or with things like trout, but it does matter at least a little with all species.

>>1095978
yes
>>
>>1095969
How tight is your spool tension brakes? Ideally you want the spool tension just tight enough to keep the spool from moving side to side. You'll probably want to set your brakes higher.

Line size doesn't really matter that much on a baitcaster. I cast trick worms with a 1/8oz weight just fine on a heavy rod with 17lb flouro, but of course not as far as something heavier.
>>
>>1095994
Spool tension and brakes**
>>
>>1095978
Yes, I do this. Like I said I have no problems with 3/8 oz or heavier.

>>1095986
>>1095994
Brakes are up about halfway. It's probably the spool tension being too tight
>>
>>1096024
If it's backlashing in flight your spool tension isn't tight enough and your brakes are too high.

Crank your spool tension down all the way, turn your brakes off completely, then slowly loosen the spool tension until the lure starts to fall under its own weight. When it's falling from waist high to the ground in 1 second it's about right.
>>
>>1096030
>Crank your spool tension down all the way down

Or learn how to cast correctly... Using heavy spool tension is great when you're learning and all, but you're better off just learning how to use your thumb. I'm not saying not to use it at all, but it's not something you should rely on.

He very well could have the spool tension too tight and be trying to oveecompensate, making his cast jerky.
>>
>>1095969
try some #15 or #10 braid, they will give you a lot more line flexibility and make it easier to cast. and if you do get a backlash, its easier to pick out of braid. also make sure your brakes are set properly
>>1095973
i wouldnt say camouflage is necessary, but earthy colours help
>>1096069
with super long casts, like surf fishing, i find it better to have your brakes do most of the work. if it starts throwing line weird you have to catch it, and slow it a little with your thumb but i find i get longer heaves by setting my brakes than thumbing it.
>>
>>1096069
>didn't read the rest of the post
Good job jackass
>>
>>1096072
That makes sense, but it's also the complete opposite casting light lures ya feel? Just the thought of thumbing the spool while throwing a couple ounces makes my thumb hurt.

>>1096074
I did, but that's still too tight to get the best performance out of your reel.
>>
>>1096086
>falling at ~3ft a second with 3/16th oz lure
>too tight
Nigger if he has it much looser than that he's gonna have the cap fall off.

I'm seriously questioning your ability to comprehend what you read now.
>>
>>1096024
Its worth noting if you aren't used to having it set that loose it might make it worse. You're gonna have to use your thumb. I would try loosening them up, but don't go too crazy with it at first, and don't go for distance. Focus on being smooth and thumbing the spool. What >>1096030 said IS a good place to start, but your cast will be shorter than they could be.

I have come to the conclusion that memecasters are not worth the hassle for bass and other small fish. I'm so fucking sick of having to throw lures within a specific weight range or I get backlashes or shitty casting distance. The only reels with horizontal spools I'd ever buy are conventionals and levelwinds for catfish or big saltwater gamefish.
>>
>>1096094
I did misread your post. I thought you said 1 foot a second.

Yeah, 3ft/sec is almost certainly fast enough. My bad amigo.

I'm at work so I'm reading fast.

In my mind spool tension should be the last thing you deal with. It makes more sense to me to start it off loose, then make it tighter if I need to. Opposite with brakes. I start those all the way up and go down.

>inb4 autism

>>1096110
>I'm so fucking sick of having to throw lures within a specific weight range or I get backlashes or shitty casting distance

>>
>>1096112
There's no point in dealing with needless complexity. There is little benefit to using a cuckcaster over a spinning reel for bass.
>>
>>1096115
its nice for particularly heavy lures like frogs and jigs, but outside of that i would agree.
>>
>>1096118

>>
im getting a cheap reel and putting some line on it, but im not sure if i want to get the 2000 size reel and put #10 braid on it, or the 2500 and put #15. i like the appeal of having a little bit of extra line strength, but i really want my gotcha plugs to fly. it will also be used some in fresh water.
>>
>>1096130
Just get the 15. The casting distance will be negalagible compared to 10. Plus it will last you a little longer. I've noticed with <10# braid you end up with a bunch of small cuts in the fibers from abrasion and what ever else causes it, itbe yet to have braid straight up snap on me but I'm sure it's getting weakend. Anything over 20# I've never had that issue however
>>
>>1095973
shit i posted here before asking if a bright colored kayak was ok or should i paint it, and you all said it was ok.
>>
>>1096152
15/2500 it is. im just getting a daiwa sweepfire, i got the bigger one (either a 4000 or 4500) in a pinch (i just needed something for my anchor line) and i was surprisingly satisfied with it when i hooked a big butterfly ray. the drag is surprisingly nice, it seems sturdy, only down side is the drag could be stronger and the gear ratio on smaller ones could be higher, but i think it will do fine.my big reel gets about 15 pounds of drag pressure tops, and the 2500 gets around 9, so i mean, it puts out enough, and i can always grab the spool if i need to slow a fish's run.

unified strand superline. All the strength of braid while being skinnier than anything else. Between being even skinnier than braid (that 12lb is 0.005") and being smoother, casts a fucking country mile.

Hey yall load of FLY questions

If I want to fish midges (from my understanding you fish them in clear water + when there isnt much of a hatch going on), what tippet should I use?
2lb mono? Some flouro?
>>
>>1096296
>should
kek now there's a loaded question. Most places will tell you 4x or 5x tippet for trout and panfish

I generally only fish midges on a dropper rig since I don't fish native trout (stockies or bass/panfish here) so I usually just use like 4lb Trilene XL or Berkley Solutions.
>>
>>1096290
i didnt take hema, but i studied on my own, i've read treatises, and trained drills, aswell as practiced cutting, but i know how to hold my own in a sabre fight.
>>1096296
>what tippet should I use
that depends on the size of the midge. if its size 16-60 5x will be fine, 6x for #20-26, 7x for 26-32
if you can only have one tippet material, mono is a good general, but if you plan on only fishing midge larvae then use flouro because it helps sink.
>from my understanding you fish them in clear water + when there isnt much of a hatch going on
honestly, i only fish them when the bite is so slow that nothing is going on.if there isnt a clear hatch ill usually start with a seeker pattern like a wooly bugger, and turn over occasional rocks as i go. eventually i will find a nymph, and hang some tippet off the back of my wooly bugger and fish it like that. if im still not getting takes, ill swap out for a midge. in still water i will usually start with a streamer, then a nymph, then if i have to ill go to a midge.

They show up usually early november but I've caught one at the end of october. The most effective pompano lure I've ever used in my life is the Doc's goofy jig. Just cast them out in the surf, give them a hard jerk and let them flutter down. Most of my hits are on the pink teaser so I'm sure any pink fly would absolutely destroy them. Some days they don't hit lures so I use live sand fleas I find on the beach or fishbites in sand flea flavor.

They're surfing where you want to fish because there's a good bank there. Just like it's a good spot to fish, it's also a good spot to surf. Sand will pile up against or near piers/groynes/jetties and waves will also wedge off groynes.

I've had plenty of run ins with fishermen.
>surfing the only good bank on the whole beach
>surf fisherman rocks up and starts casting basically on top of us
>literally miles and miles of deserted beach within a few minutes' drive
>go in and explain to him that it's a violation to fish near boardriders or swimmers and that there's miles of empty beach everywhere that isn't specifically here (mid morning on a weekday)
>"aw fuck awf m8"

Repeat this exact interaction over and over again.

Another time
>surfing reef about a mile offshore

My dog is def smarter than Maxine Waters.

While I won't disagree, I will point out that some of the dumbest people I have ever known were also the most educated.

That guy had like 5 Masters' degrees and had a pretty high-up position in a very large international investment firm. I have an uncle with 4 Ph.D's in philosophy that's been broke his entire fucking life because he can't wrap his mind around insurance or basic money management (he's never made less than $200k/yr and his wife, who holds 3 Ph.D's in linguistics, has never worked a day in her life--this is after he inherited nearly $3 million from my late grandfather his dad). My father-in-law died penniless and $7 million in debt despite having a Ph.D in agribusiness, a Masters in accounting, and 150,000 acres of prime farmground because he had a lifetime of heart issues and didn't believe in health insurance, which was always available FOR FREE to him via work and then medicare (he actually refused to enroll in medicare when he turned 65 he hated the concept so much, which is how he ended up so deeply in debt--3 open heart surgeries in 7 years then 2 years in a skilled-nursing home with no insurance).

Meanwhile I knew people like my grandfather (my dumbshit uncle's dad)--never even finished high school, was independently wealthy by 18 because he smuggled Canadian whiskey down the Mississippi during Prohibition, got sent to WW2 where he wheeled and dealed himself into a bunch of cool and eventually valuable shit, then started his own sheet-metal office furniture company which was a huge success. He retired a multimillionaire at 56, sold the company, and due to smart investments was almost a billionaire by the time he died at 94.

sometimes. fish will act weird from time to time, though. like catching catfish on crank baits, or huge pike on tiny lures, or even bluegill on empty hooks.

My dog is also smarter than Maxine Waters, and he eats paintbrush handles.

Are most of you guys fly fisherman or just a vocal tripping minority? My St. Croix Panfish arrived today and I've never really had a rod that's been this whippy. I've realize most of my jigs are probably 15+ years old and the heads are chipped to fuck so I wanna get some new ones, should I just buy a pack of something cheap or what? Pic related looks like eye candy but I'm not sure if it's to lure in fish or fisherman, thoughts?
>>
>>1097516
it looks like just a wooly bugger. wooly buggrs are absolute staples in any freshwater fly box.
>Are most of you guys fly fisherman or just a vocal tripping minority
vocal tripping minority. i think the only fly fishing tripfags are me, red, and on rare occasions tx. speaking of . . .
>>1096561
tx, id gladly sell you some carp flies for a really good price+ shipping, if you want. carp are an absolute blast on fly, and great practice for saltwater fly fishing.

Had a pretty decent jig bite going today. feel bad for this guy. I think it looks a LOT worse than it actually was. I only nicked one of his gills and he swam off hard as hell.

Fished a baitcast rod and reel out of a local public pond today.. guess somebody got mad and threw it in LEL. Now I just have to figure out how to clean the insides of the reel and I have my first bait caster to learn on. Beat that faggots

>>
>>1097535
desu you probably overpaid
but just find instructions for disassembling any baitcasting reel and just follow along, the directions should be similar for your setup
>>1097538
>And I might take you up on those carp flies.
if i remember right you have a vice, so i could just give you the recipie, it was simple enough for me to come up with so you should be able to tie it, but either way im down. it would be a series of posts for step by step
nice crappie btw
>>1097543

>>
>>1097551
Leetle as in little lol

Sand bass are just white bass (might include yellow bass and hybrids depending on where you live).

No bass species will have a mouth like that.
