Any divers from California on /out/? This isn't my home board (usually a /fit/ guy) but I'm an Australian about to move to LA from Sydney area. I love to dive for abalone, lobsters and go spearfishing and I'm just wondering what spots are good close to LA. Mostly interested in getting abalone.

Also, general diving thread?

Not an LA guy but I live in Orange County and have a coworker who dives a lot. If I remember I'll ask him next time I see him.

Rancho Palos Verdes has some really good spear fishing spots same with the very north of laguna caught a few lobsters there. NorCal has some great spots have a buddy who filled his abalone limit in one hour

long beach harbor has surprisingly lots of lobsters. you will need to be aware of your local mlpa's to know where you are allowed to dive and take. will also need to buy license and tags. lots of reefs to free dive. would recommend numerous trips to catalina island. dont be lured north to the santa barbara areas. lots of gw shark attacks and sightings. learn the regulations. have fun.
