I saw about a thousand or more Destroying Angels and Fly Agaric at a local park on one of its "longest" trails. I wish I had a camera at the time, but I was between cameras then. They were spread all along the woodland path, but only up near the ridge lines and tops of the hills in the deeply wooded areas.

I was hanging out with my buddy who was a park ranger one day and we ended up having to do a missing person search for a woman who did exactly this. She ended up walking over 20 miles in flip flops because she ate some psychedelic fungus that makes you just GO. Damndest thing I ever saw.

That's so cool. I've always wanted to see destroying angels. I live an area where they grow along the west coast. I'm going to keep my eye out for them when I'm hiking this year

Have you done a spore print? If it's dark purple they might contain psilocybin.

It looks like a bolete of some sort. (It has tubes instead of gills under the cap.) It looks like it maybe has yellow tubes? So it could be a toxic species. Boletes usually stain when bruised, so try poking the surface under its cap with a stick and see what color it turns. You can also take a spore print by separating the cap from the stem and placing it on a piece of paper; leave it for like a day. The color of the spores will also help you identify it.
