Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster. I've seen a few things here and there about FEMA bringing in people to help out with the disaster relief efforts.
Anyone have any experience with things like this?
If one were interested in doing such a thing, what would they need to be aware of or look out for?

Getting your stuff stolen when it is left somewhere. Make sure whatever you leave, where ever it is, is locked up properly.
Infection. Flood waters are notorious for floating up the turds of animals, flushing out sewers, and having lots of carcasses. Don't get cut, don't touch your face without using alcohol wet wipes on your hands first. Wear protective gear, even general eye protection. Some of this depends on what you'll be doing of course. Just don't handle anything without gloves.

How can i profit of this hurricane ?
I went to Louisiana for work right after hurricane Katrina, and went again during hurricane Gustav. I also went to New Jersey right after hurricane Sandy.
I'm a paramedic, from Pennsylvania. Our state has what's called ambulance strike teams, that can be gathered together on short notice and head to disaster areas for help.

You can get FEMA certified to assist in such operations from their independent study website. The courses also count for college credit if you transfer it over.

Last I checked the CFO of the American Red Cross got paid over $3,000,000 USD a year and only worked around 220 hours the whole year.
