Just getting started in Astronomy. Will soon be acquiring a Meade LX200 - 10" (upgrading from a 76mm Newtonian). Can anyone suggest informative/instructional websites or videos on the Meade LX200? Also, looking for a good online viewing forecast. Any help would be much appreciated.

You should check out the Whirlpool Galaxy and see if you can see any spiral structures. In my 8" reflector I can only see two fuzzy blobs but it's still cool. I took this image of the galaxy with my 6" reflector.

You should also check out the great star cluster in Hercules. That should be a real treat in your 10". Took this image also with my 6 incher.

What is the point of astronomy? Just looking at sparkly shit in the sky?

More like looking at dim hazy objects (unless you're observing planets) in the sky and it's great.
Nothing compares to bringing your telescope out to an open field on a crisp cloudless night with a pack of beers and a bluetooth speaker. Nothing.

do you have a motor mount for that?
>>1094142
Yes and a smaller telescope with it's own camera that's mounted to the main telescope. Its job is to keep track on a single star and then send correction commands to the mount if it detects any movements of the star. That's the hard part of astrophotography, making sure that the target stays completely still while you're imaging since you're taking long exposure photos.

whats the point of any endeavor for that matter if you follow that line of thought?
I need lenses I lost for my little telescope I bought years ago and drug out of the attic. But so expensive and few, I might as well just buy another. company shut down. And I'm not sure how much I want to see moon craters again.
Who else /astrophotography/ here?

This site is fantastic. Every month they release highly detailed star maps complete with ecliptical lines and everything.
