Do all self inflatable sleeping mats have shitty valves that start leaking after a week or two? I need something relatively compact (weight not an issue) that will support my tall, well-fed body. But these self-inflatable mats keeping leaking at the damn valve after a week or two of use.

How fat and cheap are you?
>>

105kg. 2 meters tall. Previous ones were from 70 euros and up. Thermarest/Outwell etc.
>>
>>1090944
Leaking from inside the valve through the opening or from around the valve where it attaches to the material? If the former, use a piece of potato or rubber clamped over it. If the latter, use some of the patch kit's glue with a piece of patch cut to fit around the entire valve.

I have had good luck with an Exped Synmat 7. Not self inflating, but size both rolled up and inflated make it worth it to me.
>>
>>1090957
whats the internal pump like? takes like 1 minute to inflate it or 15?

>>1090955
I'll check tonight.
>>
>>1090951
Thermarest valves shouldn't leak. I've used mine for 20 years
>>
I inherited a thermarest mat from my father - its probably 20-30 years old and works like a new one.
>>
I have had no problems with my big agnes
>>
>>1090957
They have them on sale right now on amazon and REI. Snagged the Downmat 7 version. I can't wait to be /comfy/

>105kg. 2 meters tall.
Your weight might be forcing the air out.

Why?

Can't break and become annoying as fuck to fix.

I've had my Thermarest for ten years...cheapest model at the time. Still going strong.
>>
>>1091537
Got mine in the mail yesterday. Base Camp model. Feels pretty sturdy, can't see anything other than the (user-replaceable) valve failing; you'd have to be more than a little retarded to scuff/stab the fabric enough to damage it. The welded seam is pretty generous at about a centimeter wide
>>
I'm 5 nights into my trip on a Klymit pad I spent $50 for on Amazon. Looks like it'll hold up to me
>>
You fucks convinced me to get a new thermarest. Ordered the LuxuryMap Large. Lifetime warrantee for delamination/couple other things, 7.5cm of comfort, should be good. I also promised myself to store it flat with the valve open and to kill any cat that comes near it.

I can't wait to feel comfy in my tent after a long day of riding. Nights are longer too this month compared to last month so even more comfy time.

i have 2 cats and 2 pads. i store them on their side pinned between the couch and the wall. that way i can leave the pads wherever i want and they won't get clawed.

What do you side sleepers use? I've been thinking about copping one of these. I've read too many reviews of people saying they touch the ground in the middle, with other stuff.
>>
>>1092251
I'm a sidesleeper and will write an autistic review of the luxurymap when its in. Definitely going to teach my future kids to sleep on their backs.
>>
How much does the R-Value matter?

I need an own isomat, and after trying a few i've found the thermarest neoair xlite to be quite comfy with an r value of 3.2. There is also a "warmer" model which is quite similar but has an r value of 5.7
Should i just get the warmer one to be safe if i ever decide to do some winter camping or will that be too hot on my usual outings?
>>
>>1090951
That's the downside of being a big guy. Can you even fit in a normal tent?

No. I use the Vango Bravo 300 now, a cheap tunnel tent with 2m30cm (7'6, I am 6'6) of internal length. Works well enough, only one I could find in my area that fits as I don't want to sleep diagonally. And most tents are too small when sleeping diagonally anyway.

There are a lot of downsides to being tall, probably just as many as to being a manlet.
>>
>>1092264
No downsides to being a manlet when camping. Well...unless getting laid while camping is one of your goals.
>>
>>1092264
6'7 btw* apologies
>>
>>1090944
If you bought it at some place like Ocean State Job Lot it's probably shit
>>
I just spent a week out and slept on a Darche self inflating mat. It's a pretty big thick mat, comfy as hell. I don't ever go camping far from my car so transporting it's no issue for me.
>>
>>1092256
Back sleeping is where it's at, your kids will grow up more handsome.
>>
>>1092259
Sleeping on the ground in winter I want more insulation, for summer less insulation.

Yo, try a evazote pad, I am big and tall myself and it is the only reliable solution. also cheap and light.

The toughest inflatable you can get is an NRS Paco Pad, but it's for raft guides so it's not light or compact.

Also if you're blowing up thermarests after two weeks it's because you're too fat. Put the donut down you disgusting slob.
>>
>>1090944
i've got one that my dad gave to me from the late 80s/early 90s and still works like a charm. i use it all the time.
