Anyone know of any good backpacking spots in Santa Cruz?

I'd actually like to know as well
There's Big Basin which has the skyline to the sea trail. It's about 29.5 miles long and it's beautiful.

Thanks! I've never gone backpacking for that long. Is it a tough trail?

no, and a bunch of it is by the road. go south to big sur and the ventana wilderness for better options, assuming you can find a part of it that isn't burned up or slid into the ocean.

SC born and raised anon here; I did the skyline to sea trail last winter and it was pretty solid. The redwoods, the views, and all the mushrooms kept me invested the whole way through. It got pretty cold at night but we didn't freeze and you'll notice a high variation in microclimates as you make your way down the trail. Because it was the offseason there were no normies on the trail, like we only saw people at castle rock then it was pure innawoods from thereout. Got real spooky at some points we thought Edmund Kemper was going to murder us. The last day was a 20 mile 22 hour day of trekking it was insane but we made it safely to the sea on time for our ride to take us back to our car at castle rock and the expedition was a success

Microclimates had us layering thermals every few hundred feet, it's really crazy how quickly the temps drop when you reach the dip before big basin
