Looking for a tent recommendation /out/
>2 or 3 person
>cold/low temp resistance not a factor
>will be using for pretty much standard camping, no backpacking model or any other specialization
>gotta be able to hold up in heavy rain and high heat environments
>ease of set-up would be a huge plus because I'm new to camping

Bump.
Check out the Hubba Hubba by MSR, it's the best two person tent I've ever used. The double vestibule and extra anchor points make it even better.
REI has their half dome 2 plus on sale, good tent
Rei clearance. Return it if it doesn't suit your needs

just water proof it and you can make the other person carry half of it.

Dumb question but are "backpacking tents" just as good for car/regular camping?

They are made for a different purpose, so yes and no

Yeah ultimately you're still just trying to get some sleep; backpacking tents are obviously smaller and lighter (which can mean sacrifices to fabric/pole durability unless you're willing to spend). That specific REI model is on the heavy side for a backpacking tent. I'm 6'2" and can lie in the middle and stretch all my limbs out fully without touching the corners, so it's nice and roomy. Not trying to shill but with that sale right now, no way you'll find a better tent for $150

Ah and I should mention it's mad easy to pitch. You just lay the fabric flat on the ground, stick the poles (which are all one unit and impossible to fuck up) into the four corners, then lift the fabric up and clip it onto the poles. Takes 2 minutes.
