Appreciation thread for these little agile flyers.

>parks itself on a branch as if to observe you

There's always a dragonfly that lands on my fishing bobber or rod tip when I'm fishing. Their pretty common here.
Dragonflys live as nymphs before they hatch into adults. They can live for up to 4 years as a nymph, and they are voracious predators. They have an extendable jaw which they use to fuck shit up with.
The adults you see flying around only live for 2 months. Learning there lifecycle made me appreciate them so much more.
Last weekend. Envy me, bitchez.
I didn’t even realise we got them this big in Britain.
I see them all the time fishing, or rather damsel flies.
Normally mating. Sometimes I'd see a bunch of them stacked on some topwater vegetation. That's when a fish tends to come up and try and snatch one.
They love to check out my rod and line, sometimes landing on it. Rarely upon my shoulder
I love Dragonfly

Let's try and keep it to dragonflies, shall we?
Ok so maybe you lads can explain
>couple of weeks ago
>hiking with my gf
>find a creek, clean our selfs
>gf sees somthing land in the water
>it's two dragonflies joined by their genitals I think
>one of them HAS HIS HEAD FUCKING RIPPED OFF but still attached to the body
>we watch the alive one nearly drown
>he finally detaches from the dead one
>I use a stick to remove from from the water and he flies away
>pic related the dead one still in the water
is this something normal? I didn't know dragonflies rip off the heads of their mates...

the animal kingdom is a true horror, yes dragonflies do the dirty deed of killing their mates much like humans
