in nawth carolina I live near an old overgrown 50 mile uwharrie trail, we have a group of people that volunteer to work on trails and do a thru hike once a year together

Share MTB Club maintains the trails. See if they have a work day. A long as you are just cutting back branches and not touching roots you can clear stuff up.

You'd get fired from any job here if you did that. It is dangerous as fuck. Even just wearing shorts you get all manner of rock chips whacking them. There's tons of scratches from rocks and shit hitting it while using either side of the mattock. Mattocks are like designed to shoot shit right into your eyes or something. All it takes is to hit one fucking rock. You can go be blind macho men if you want.
