Hammocks are about comfort.
Tents are practical, but you could argue a tarp is lighter and more practical than a tent in many cases.
A hammock is about comfort. A typical hammock set up is lighter than a cheap tent set up. A high end tent or tarp set up is generally lighter than a hammock set up though. A hammock isn't about cutting weight, it's about increasing comfort.

Traveling in the jungle like I do you will find hammock more practical then a tent.
