So how many of you use a fanny pack as a daypack? Your favorite model?
I use mine quite often desu
>>1080121
i only wear these for biking. somehow i don't actually like any of the bike packs. and when i dismount i want my papers money phone and keys on me not on the bike.
guess i'll monitor this thread,
i'm looking for one that ain't fat as fuck and able to be carried as a bandoleer around the shoulder.
something tough against rip and tears since urban ones usually desintegrate easy
>>1080292
I got a mammut one in sales, quality stitching and zippers. I don't see how you fuck up a fanny fack? It is not like you load tons in there.
>>1080292
i bought an EDC pack instead. it slings over one shoulder and just looks like a small backpack.
>>1080327
advantage of the fanny pack is you got everything at the ready with one hand, like this is useful in fishing and other stuff.
>>1080121
I EDC a fanny pack. It's quite useful for carrying your CCW, knife, comb, dental floss, and other items you might need to carry at any given time. Would highly recommend
>>1080121
>hiding his boner
Be proud. The half the world appreciates seeing a boner bulge as much as the other half appreciates beautiful breasts in a tight shirt.
Also fanny packs are gay.
I can't tell if people in here are taking the piss or not, just ues a messenger bag
>>1080496
They probably go real well with your long black socks and velcro tennis shoes. You still working part time at the recycling center sorting colored glass?
>>1080507
you dumb
>>1080496
Fanny means vagina you candyassgot
>>1080509
Oh really? And?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fanny_pack
>>1080509
So does muff but it doesn't stop women from shoving their hands in them
Those are the sex offender's purse.
But in the UK a fanny pack is a tampon
fanny packs are like headlamps., they look goofy, but are superior in many ways.
Yeah, I have one that I call my "oh Shit pack" with first aid, a whistle, compass, sharpie, mirror, sawyer filter, poncho, mylar blanket, and dog treats. I'd rather not carry a purse, and I'd like a better way to compactly carry all that.
Does anyone use one of those?
>>1080919
>"oh Shit pack"
Got something similar, I when I camp out I often kick in an easy day, like explore the neighborhood, walk up the local hill or go fishing.
sak, map/compass, headlamp, whistle, mylar blanket, band aids, alcohol wipes, chewing gum, chocolate bar, bic, mobile phone go in there.
>>1080919
Same. I've got an old USGI ALICE buttpack that lives strapped to the back of my back seat that's my car-wreck bag
>trauma kit (crinkle gauze, Israeli bandages, tourniquets, chest seals, medical tape, duct tape, SAM splints, vet wrap)
>4 mylar emergency blankets
>2 cheapo ponchos
>2, 1L bottles of water
>woobie
>>1080866
And a boot is the storage area in a vehicle, a faggot is a bundle of sticks, a fag is a cigarette, taking the piss is a dumb joke, and a bunch of other things that differ in meaning greatly from the rest of the English speaking world because you're contrarian retards.

>>1081034
Didn't take it with me on a 2 km walk yesterday while playing Ingress in a light drizzle. Who needs gear for a short walk? Of course, the rain opened up at the end of the loop and I didn't have a poncho. Meh. Warm rains feels ok.
I'm looking for a USGI ALICE pack of the right size and having trouble? Could you spare a link for a fellow sc/out/?
>>1081053
>Who needs gear for a short walk?
Well, I'm in back country, no one there, no roads, no trails, no bridges. I think it is prudent to take some gear with me when I stroll the wilderness all day. I bring a snack, some raingear, knife and lighter, bit of first aid gear, lamp, space blanket, phone, map&compass.
>weather turns, I got poncho
>getting dark, I got lamp
>hurt my foot fording a creek, got first aid
>do some hand fishing, have knife and lighter for making delicious trout skewers
>nothing happens, I got snacks
>don't know where my tent is, I got map
>>1081053
Can't help ya mate, mine was issued to me. When we switched over to the MOLLE2 setup they simply shredded the hand receipts instead of making us turn it all back in.
And I suppose it was a bit of a misnomer, the buttpack is part of the LC2 setup (the actual web gear), not the ALICE pack.
>>1081082
forgot pic
>>1080121
If that can hide your boner than you have no hope.
Why not a drop pouch?
Less gay looking at least
>>1081187
waist pouch is better because
a) it doesn't bounce around quite as much as a drop pouch because its on the waist and not on the leg
b) easy one hand access because it is higher up.
don't care too much how my gear looks as long as it works like a charm.
>>1081187
>tacticool shit
>not gay
If you're not doing assault runs in Afghanistan that's pretty much the definition of gay shit.
>>1081371
How is that tacticool?
You can use nearly anything as a drop pouch. Pic is just an easy example.
Fucking autistic weirdo
i use them a lot, i found them really functional. specially in summer when i'm not wearing clothes with big pockets.
i have a small one to carry some money, phone and keys, and the one in the pic when i hike or bike. i've sewn a couple of velcro straps at the bottom to attach a bike pump.
>>1081508
>drop leg pouch with velcro shit
>not tacticool gay shit
The only autistic weirdo here is you, who is trying to justify himself the idea of carrying military designed gear in your random /out/ activities. I'm sure it will go nice with your overweight belly and plate carrier, wannabe soldier.
>>1081766
You're mad about a pouch
You realize that right?
Hostility over a thing that holds things. And defending fanny packs at the same time.
Wew
>>1081760
>of velcro straps at the bottom to attach a bike pump.
good thinking anon, i might mod one to attach a hobo fishing kit in a pvc tube.
I use this sometimes. Comfy enough. The strap is of seatbelt material. It was 2 bucks at goodwill, whatever.
>>1082004
>eastpak
I remember one time when I was an /out/fitter, the Mountainsmith rep stopped by to visit because we weren't moving a whole lot of their product. We chatted for a while about how we'd present the bigger packs options, but most of the time the customers would like something else better.
So finally asks me what is selling and I say
>The camera carriers sell pretty well, and the fanny pack.
>The what?
>The big fanny pack *point to display*
>It's a "Technical Lumbar System"
>Oh, anyway.....
We spent a bit talking about it, what people liked about it and who was buying it. But every time I called it a fanny pack, he chimed in with "technical lumbar system".
>>1082566
lol this.
I work for a big-box sporting goods store. We ROUTINELY get told to refer to fanny packs and buttpacks (yes there is a difference) as "waist packs" so as not to "upset" anyone.
>>1082605
>nope but you made me check up on it and actually bought it
care to give a short review on it once it arrives, zips n stitches in particular.
This for the past 12 years.
Side pouches perfect for monocular/flashlight/pepper spray.
Main cargo pocket perfect for medium gun or notepad+walet+smartphone, can be extended to hold 1liter water bottle. Smaller zipper outside pocket perfect for small pistol, or wallet/smartphone. Mini external pocket under the cover good for small notepad.
2 tiny zipper pockets in the cover perfect for small objects like keys, I have a paranoya of loosing mine every time I'm /out/ so it's perfect for me.
I use it withought the thigh belt, it's when the bag swings to the side when I sit down.
>>1083275
Is that your /out/ setup, or just edc/ccw?
>>1083587
Edc/ccw but I take it outdoors too most of the time, love the easy access to shit I need, like water.
I'll probably get one this summer (Australia) so I can carry my wallet and such, just walking around the neighbourhood, without having to use pockets or a bag that covers my back (and traps sweat there).
>>1080121
I use a fairly large buttpack as a hunting pack. Keep a pair of binos, my field dressing stuff, a small FAK, and spare ammo in it.
After years of getting "disposable" ones for $15-20 from walmart I finally dropped $60 on a Badlands Ambush (lifetime guarantee). Much comfier and the buckle doesn't slip so it actually stays up on my lower back instead of dangling off my ass after an hour.
I've had this one a few years now. Carry a full size S&W and air travel is so easy with it.
>>1081766
Literally nothing wrong with using military gear while /out/. Quit being pretentious.
>>1082521
>LoL, thats called a purse.
You really want to talk shit while posting in a fanny pack thread?
>>1082521
you must have a really massive dick
>>1083123
I just received it today and i'll tell what i see so far,
the stitching seems to be good, not far from the official pictures and i'm not seeing any defect like unstitched parts or similar problem which i usually get when purchasing gears online.
the zippers are really smooth and easy to use, but the pulls looks really cheap, it feels like an empty shoelace, or a tube to be precise.
the capacity exceed what i expected, while i can fit my fatass leather wallet (the 3cm thick ones) in the back pocket and my samsung A5+cover on the front pocket, i can also shove in a nalgene bottle (16oz/500ml) with small mouth at the same time and coule possibly fit smaller items on the sides.
it also come with an internal organizer that can be removed since it's velcro'd which is pretty generous compared to other gear companies that sell bag with internal velcro but sell the organizer separatly.
Overall it feels like a really positive item from first day, althought the only cons i'm thinking of is that i might change the zipper pulls and the plastic buckles which feels below average in term of lifespan but this is something to see for later.
>>1084551
with my wallet and nalgene bottle seen from above
>>1084552
i didn't bothered putting much since the the nalgene bottle was enough, the color is adaptive green by the way.
>>1081053
Everyone lives in the same climate as you eh.
>warm rain
Exactly. Here, in the same scenario the rain is cold, and you end up with hypothermia.
>>1080121
I use my old eastsport all the time when i'm riding my bike, fishing, or hiking away from camp. It easily fits a sawyer mini, mini tackle box, bike tools and first aid kit, mini umbrella and I have room left for the wallet phone and snacks and I can easily strap on my water bottles for a compact loadout that has my basics covered. Handy piece of gear.
>>1084681
what rod reel combo is that?
>>1085498
It's a Southbend Adventure rod, 5 ft. It works just as well with a baitcaster or a an open spinning reel. It's very bendy/ flexy which is cool when casting but not so much when trying to get feel info, so i make up for that using a thin braid line that has zero stretch. It's a workable combo. The rod was pretty cheap @ $ 9.99
But for throwing it in the backpack or clipping it to the belt and not taking up space it's great.
The reel is a Quantum TG400CX ...I paid $25 for it a few years ago, you can get them cheaper than that now. It's a pretty good beginner level baitcaster, very forgiving, yet strudy enough to take some abuse. I spool it up with some #10lb Spiderwire Stealth in moss green and that works pretty good.
I'm usually using meps spinners, spoons or a texas rigged worm, I also like using a casting bubble to throw flies for panfish and trout.
I do most of my fishing in the summer from my float tube. Cheapest way to get on the water.
>>1085614
>Southbend Adventure rod
my luck, discontinued. I was looking for a ultracompact tele spin rod.
>>1080292
I don't know if you're still there anon but I've been using this for about two years, holds up nice for a day pack.
>>1081053
What team ingress, also location? Level 16 resistance here. Going to the Portland anomaly this weekend.
>>1080121
perfect pic op, i thought i was the only one using packs like this for concealed carry
>>1086562
