My beloved brother left my tent wet in bag, so now I need new one. And now I need a good one.
I'll use it only in summer, so number one prioryty is ventilation (no shadow on music festivals, its hot as hell ) , storm resist (rain and wind) and light weight (I travel mostly by train). I'm tired of this shitty "sauna" bought in shitty store. Give me your best brands and models. I'm not going to walk on K2, so fuck four seasons ones.
>>
You just described a tarp you idiot.

$50: http://borahgear.com/tarps.html
>>
Tarps sucks. Thats not a tent. When there's storm outside, everything gets wet.
Light means I dont want 12 person castle or 4 person tent with high of basketball player. Just tent I can pack and take with friend, but with high quality.

semi related question, how to keep your stuff dry?

Tent, sleeping bag, clothes... It'll be wet in the morning. What do?

Get a grey MSR hubba.

I keep most stuff in foil bags. I make one day pack (1 T-shirt 1 pair of socks and 1 shorts) in "sandwich bags" (not sure how are they called in English). Tent is in waterproof sack. Sleepingbag too. In The morning all is dry, because tent is waterproof. I'm not sure how it works with tarp, because I tried it once and it was fun 'til first rain.

>dry bag
>clothes in dry bag
>sleeping bag: air dry it out first then bag it and dry bag the bag
>wet/moist environments: avoid down sleeping bags

okay!

If your gear gets wet under a tarp, that means you're a retard that doesn't know how to pitch a tarp.

You asked for ventilation, rain/wind proof and lightweight. The answer is a tarp and a few months of practice on how to pitch it.
>>
>>1073609
Out of curiousity, how does one pitch a tarp to make it rain- and windproof?
>>
>>1073615
Half pyramid, low a-frame for example. Site selection is also key. Pitching according to wind direction. There are shaped tarps too. Take a look at the MLD trailstar. It seems to be the standard in Scotland for lightweight guys at the moment.
>>
>>1073616
What if it had been raining already - I guess put an additional(smaller?) tarp under the tarp?

So 2 tarps?

Insects and ticks get in, what do?
>>
>>1073647
A groundcloth is good idea. It could be another tarp, a piece of tyvek or polycryo. For really wet conditions I'd suggest a lightweight bivybag/sleeping bag cover or a seperate bathtub floor.
For insects you can buy nets to put up under, a bugbivy or sleep with a headnet. I don't have a solution for ticks though, other than a net-tent with a floor.

Nevermind, I googled it
>>

Thanks anon.

I read some experiences, people have used this setup in high winds too. I found it surprising but interesting too! The MLD tarp you mention goes pretty low, winglike profile.
>>
>>1073665
No problem. Yeah the Trailstar is cool. I've been wanting one of those a good while now, but they're pretty pricy to import to my country. But they occasionally are for sale used. I'm tempted by a MLD Cricket that I can get for an ok price here in europe. It's like a smaller trailstar crossed with a small pyramid tent. Probably not as bomber in the wind though.

just wash your tent....

I use the tarptent rainbow and I'm thinking of getting the tarptent protrail
