Such nature. Much hike. Kungsleden must be babby tier hiking. Is there also wheelchair access? When I was hiking with a group through some bogs we actually used oversized snowshoe things. Heavy as fuck but you didn't sink up to your ballsack in mud.

There is two reasons for the plank ways, a) flooding areas and b) erosion protection for sensitive areas in national parks.
That pic is the later.

pic related, this what a trail looks like after heavy rains in Norway.
>>
>>1072195
Since you are such tuff, muchy muchachos machos, you know you could go there and walk beside the planks with your snowshoes.

You will sink in and it will suck, but can be done, why not. In some points it can be very deep.

Post pics when you do eventually. Have fun.

I liked
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-j66YYWwE4

It's a guy named Kjell and his dog Lucas, they walk from Kvikkjokk to Vuoggatjålme. It's narrated in Swedish, from Lucas' point of view.

It's got some nice /out scenery and worth watching even if you can't speak the language. I found it heartwarming to see them hike and especially how much the doggo enjoys the hiking and the other stuff like cuddling up to sleep after a double portion of food after many hours of walking etc.

Boring trail. Miserable people, the woman sounds dumb AF. When they meet the fishermen they just take the fish and mash and fuck off to their free cabin instead of inviting them to share and have drinks and being civil and friendly

A good lesson not to be miserable bastards, not to bring bright coloured annoying cheap shit, and to do something fun and enriching along the way (they just looked bored and miserable)

The point is you invite them, even if they say no, ESPECIALLY if they've just given you some free food, lodgings and fresh catch. Sweden can get really fucking boring and older people always love to share some wisdom or just shoot the breeze with willing, interested younger people, even with a language barrier. It's just rude and obnoxious not to even try - people like those jolly brothers enjoy company, you can make it work even if you don't share any language in common.

The point is you have to be outgoing and try, anon, even if it's outside of your comfort zone. It's how you grow and develop, and how you learn incredibly interesting things and see the broad depth of humanity - by being open and friendly to strangers, especially ones who have been kind to you. At the very least you offer, and if they are reclusive or shy or don't like talking, they decline - this is called tact, something Swedes are very good at - the unspoken language and implicit meaning in Scandi cultures is incredibly subtle. Try it anon, you'll meet some amazing people and hear things you could never imagine.

Yeah, let's not use the trails all ready made, and make more of an impact on nature. Moron.
>>
>>1075227
Don't pretend to be an environmentalist.
A trail made of planks has a greater impact on nature than one done by feet.
>>
>>1075258
orly?
>>
>>1075263
That isn't because of lack of boardwalk. That is because of bad trail design. However, that doesn't matter at all because in >>1075223 you are called out to make your own trail. If you are walking in a place where 10s of 1000s of people walk every month/year then you need to pull the stick out of your ass and go somewhere else.
>>
>>1075263
>shows a small section of torn up ground
>doesnt show the clearcut used to make the planks
>>
>>1075280
Clearcutting is not as common as it used to be in Scandinavia. It's mostly selective cutting nowadays.
>>
>>1075282
Even selective cutting makes an area more torn up than the path shown in that pic
>>
>>1075271
>>1075282
cutting? theres not even trees you morons Thats fjell, no trees and permafrost ground, hence huge fucking swamps in summer, hence planks.
You'd understand if you'd be there once
>>
>>1075369
Well, yeah you're right. But his point was that cutting trees some where else, to make the boardwalks, had more impact than letting people people walk through what you're rightly saying is a bog (hence the white flowers, kæruld) in summer (which ofcourse means it can't be permafrost but I'll let that slide). This is of course wrong. Haven't been to that area, no. But I've been plenty of similar places in Norway.
I haven't
>>
>>1075375
Wrong flower, but eh you get my point.
>>
>>1075039
Well I don't really disagree with you but I think it depends on the situation, maybe invite them for a fika if they had coffee. Also, you're making assumptions based on limited information provided, they could have invited them for all we know.
>>
>>1075280
>>1075258
Trees grow back. The planks last for tens of years if not more and stop erosion. Eroded terrain just erodes more.

>>
>>1072188
>>1072216
Tbf, the pic in the OP is clearly uplands. I'll give you that it could get muddy at times, but it is in no way a bog or fen.

It's likely to reduce erosion or some fragile wildlife.

It's just a theory that I have.

Varg is a good example.
Norwegians really hate that he is the most famous Norwegian.
Their country tries to project a very different image.
In Varg threads the most vocal anti-Varg people are always Norwegians.
They will tell you nobody watches him and that he is irrelevant and shit like that.
Maybe they feel injured because he has different ideas.
But they respond to him in a very strange way.

Unlike Americans who "apologize" for Bush or Trump, Norwegians almost refuse to acknowledge he exists.

I think in general they are intelligent people, but act in a really strange way.
>>
>>1076496
Ever been to Norway?

Not that tough faggot but when i did the Camino and were in my shelter for the night i used to pick them open and drain them too.
Cleaned them really fucking well with dysentfectant and let them dry over night.
Next morning dysentfected them again, let dry for 15/20min and put a blister tape on it.

If you're hiking a long trail and cant afford to have a zero-day you have to do it like this most likely.

You've got a fair point. But he wrote "cutting open" instead of poking a tiny hole and draining the fluid. He also claims that he'd just walk without treating his blisters, which is, of course, how you get even worse blisters. This is what makes me conclude that he's bullshitting.

I'm pretty sure we both agree that blisters should be, if possible, treated preemptively.

Also proper socks, possibly sock liners, go a long way in preventing blisters.

Yeah. And I get blisters really easy for the record. Too much dead skin on my feet. I try to get rid of it, but it's just how my feet are I suppose.
>>
>>1079710
I want to try to toughen my feet before the next trail. Walk like 10km thrice a week for a few weeks, get medical food treatment or any kind of feet care.
>>
>>1079723
I use carbamide footcream sometimes before I hit the trail. Removes some of the dead skin and makes them nice and soft. If you've got multiple layers of dead skin on your feet it is much easier for moisture to get trapped in there. I currently bike 20km a day. I'm considering hiking to work with a full pack sometimes, just to switch it up occasionally.

I don't just cut them open. I cut the entire flap of skin off.
>>
>>1084471
Bad move. That exposes the flesh underneath.
I just pop them, squeeze the liquid out, and leave it alone.
The skin flap that you cut off provides protection for the damaged area until more skin can regrow.

What is wrong with rasism? Are you a traitor to your people? Assholes are everywhere, you can't get away from that.

Look man you may disagree with him but I wouldn't wish blisters while on my worst enemy. Shit sucks. The ones on the back of the Achilles can ruin a trip.
>>
>>1084634
I'll overlook the fact that you spelt racism wrong and just answer-- it's a fucking waste of time and doesn't really make much sense. People are more a reflection of where they grew up than anything else. I have more in common with a black guy from the woods than a white guy from manhattan.

It's not to protect the ground you Mongo's it's to protect the fake fur boots and other faggy footwear the tourists use in their 1 km Adventure Trek™ into nature

Fuck, so many of you guys are wankers.
"If you walk on a trail with boardwalk portions, you aren't actually outdoors". What is this pissing contest bullshit?
Good on you, big man, you were more miserable than me on one hike you went on in comparison to one hike I went on so I must be shit.

Grow up babbychild.
Different people have different abilities.
Not everyone wants to stick to preestablished trails.
Not everyone goes to "enjoy nature" the same way.
>>
>>1085959
That's what i'm saying. Don't insult people for walking on established trails because they don't want to bush bash. People have different ways of enjoying the outdoors.

Walking Kungsleden right now.
Overexerted my Achilles, happened a year ago too so I'm taking a few days off in Ammarnäs to let it heal.
It's pretty nice so far, been a cold summer so the mosquitos and gnats have been reasonable and there's a lot more snow than usual.
The duckboards are maybe <5% of the trail I've walked so far and I've been happy to have them considering some of the places I've sunk calf deep in the mud.
There's 2 types of trail here, cabin trail and camping trail; cabin trails have a well supplied cabin with loads of beds (minimum 12) with a cabin warden and store (they even have fucking beer if you can believe it) food is overpriced but nothing too outrageous considering the work it takes to haul supplies out there by snow mobiles and helicopter. The cabins are within a days walk for someone with little to no experience (12-20km) and cost about 35$ a night.
The next leg I'm doing is 75km before a resupply point and then another 80km until the one after that in Kvikkjokk. I've met a few people who are doing Kungsleden but taking a bus to avoid the camping sections, reasonable if they're not used to carrying camping equipment or just don't feel like it.
Mailing 3-4kg of stuff I'm not using home to hopefully spare my Achilles for the rest of the trail.
Views can be really spectacular sometimes.

That's what I'm saying. People have different skill levels and enjoy different aspects of the hike, and then there are these people trying to be the biggest dick in the locker room with shit like "I only hike off trail in a swamp with buzzards picking out my eyes" and shit. It's just cringey.
>>
>>1086570
You should stick with urban hiking friend, no need to junk up nature with asphalt and boardwalks just because you are a nancyboy
>>
>>1086653
Au contraire, the nature will surely turn to junk in those areas without a boardwalk. Although you are mirroring your insecurities and lack of control into all of this by the continuous trolling, the fact stands that it is good for the fragile nature to prevent erosion; furthermore, not sinking balls deep into mud will allow more people to enjoy /out, not just übermensch like you.

Why not make it accessible to wheelchairs so the disabled can have access?
>>
>>1087306
That too, but it's not the point of the longboards. There are wheelchair accessible places for /out at least in the Nordics, e.g. some larger birdwatching platforms near more urban areas.

When going deep /out there's no specific disabled access. There might be longboards but no road-borne ambulance or maybe not even a useful road network in general, so if you fuck up, a helicopter/ski-doo/dog sled is your transport.
