Several years ago I berried a time capsule with my friends, and we tied a chain to it that's only berried a couple inches deep so it's easy to find. that way we don't have to dig several deep holes trying to find the fugging thing.

originally we were going to dig it up in 2023 but maybe we'll add 20 years.

The miner's check tag is the 3rd one I've found from that company.

I sold one of them a couple years back for $125 on ebay. So I'm always happy to see those. Not sure what the little silver-plated thing is though. Might be a lighter or tiny lamp. Not sure.

Seeing as I am holding a metal detector at the time I'd end up digging the entire length of chain up to find a fucking pull tab or a bottle cap

I've done metal detecting on the beach a lot and in fields near a known battleground not too far from me

I have found lots of change and some fishing lures

nothing really good yet

I always hope for a belt buckle or musket ball, but since the battleground is a revolutionary war battleground, everything has probably deteriorated to the point of being unrecognizable

I have a bunch of pennies saved up to spread for the detectorists.
Where is a good spot?

depends on the soil and the content of the artifact. Lead, silver and brass are probably ok. Gold would be fine too.

Iron will be mostly trash by now.

The bigger problem I have with really old sites is by now there's so much soil over top of them my detector won't find most stuff. Even where I hunt in the mountains most of the stuff is under 2 feet of soil. I only find stuff in places like roads or middens or where animals have dug up fresh dirt.

You guys should try metal detecting in England it's much better. I found this buckle eyes only today by a small stream.

Just found a whites classic sl for 10$ at an estate sale. Was missing the battery and charger. Found one online for $65 delivered to my door Guess the same metal detector I acquired retails for 500.

Firstly how wouldn't anyone know unless you told them and I probably Georgian.

I haven't used a metal detector but my gf and I go treasure hunting a lot.

We haven't found anything we can tell was valuable but it's interesting.

Some interesting finds:
- 4 utility poles complete with transformers, 50 years old, dumped in the middle of the woods
- A perfectly intact hand-forged mattock
- An old solid metal Electrolux fridge filled with ants
- 1930s geological survey maps
- Numerous tree-mounted deer blinds in various states of disrepair
- Unopened bottle of White Zinfandel from 1998
- Plenty of US army ammo cans
