Land gets cheap as fuck when there's nothing notable nearby. If you have some skills, a few years for research and preparation, and a few strong friends, you can do the better part of the work yourself. You can absolutely achieve it if you're serious about it.
Most of these don't look so tough to build.
What are the chances that an experienced outdoor's man with a mechanic's apprenticeship and a mechanical engineering degree could teach himself how to build one with info available online?

Very high. Look up how to build a platform, how to frame a wall, how to build and shingle a roof. There are many good videos on YouTube.
Here's a good intro

How do I make enough money to live in the middle of nowhere? Are there jobs that will let me take a decent portion (2-3 months) off each year to live innawoods?
>>1062028
looks pretty comfy I guess
I own this thing...bought some cheap land and built super cheap structure to sleep in. No energy, no gas...nothing...there's a river next to the land though

Always happens.
Sometimes it's Spain, but it's rare.

Wasting all that porch space with firewood. Its like you want mice in your cabin.
>>1064449
Mice can't walk the stairs tho. City cuck.
>>1064193
It's not much. That's a positive, and I'm jealous.
I like little huts, and I cannot lie.
>>1064491

Is this stuff built by professional cabin builders or actually oneself? I always see these majestic things but they always look like promo photos. Having seen people try to build cabins, they rarely ever turn out anything close to this.
>>1069879
Can you elaborate? One of my few long-term goals in life is to build a cabin. A few family members have done so. What are the major costs and obstacles?
>>1063627
dat nigger fuel cord'o mellons.
>>1063660
it's in australia, there's literally nothing to attack you contrary to what reddit might tell you
>>1069879
I would think skillset for me. I can always save enough money to buy land and materials. But I don't know how I'd get enough experience or skill to build these majestic and hopefully functional pieces. I don't want to burn up in summer or be freezing in winter. The examples I've seen are usually kinda questionable whether or not it'll actually stay up and don't look nearly as nice as the ones posted on this thread so far. Goal is to have something like >>1063586,>>1062408, or>>1062407
I know the last one is a converted fire watch tower, but damn that'd be perfect especially if near a sea.
>>1069885
See post above, idk why it replied to original post, when I clicked yours.
>>1069879
My grandfather built a cabin on a lake, he was no carpenter but was able to follow plans. Was built over 30 years ago and still stands strong. We've had to fix the roof once, and redo a couple footings but otherwise it's holding strong. Ours is more of a barn shaped design than an A-Frame which realistically is a more difficult design.
An A-Frame cabin should be simple enough to build even for a novice.
>>1070292
>>1070279
>>1070097
It would probably be a good idea to consult with contractors and make sure the plan was sound, eh? Are there good "open source" cabin blueprints I can base a final design on?
Could be years before I'm in the financial state to start planning something like this seriously. Could be never. But as this thread has proven, it's a worthwhile endgame
>>1066620
If you put it on a track sure.
>>1063005
that's a pretty neat picture.
end of dump
>>1070501
I can smell the b.o. just looking at this. Also
>tv
How much does a cabin usually cost?
>>1063738
Haven't had a TV for a 10 years. Now I live in a van and don't even have internet. I've never once been bored.
>>1070300
Out in the woods back then there were little regulations on 'cabins'. These days there are a lot more, but luckily my grandfather did a really good job.
Financials depend on many things. Size/Location/Material cost..
>>1064491
Mice can climb
>>1070846
I tried living in a countryside cabin sans internette for three days. Alone. Could not make it. I got so much cabin fever I had to hold on to chairs to stand up. All I did was lay down and masturbate. And no, I'm fit, healthy and young otherwise.
A childhood of videogames and porn has made me so craving of external stimulus I can't even break away from them to get it because it makes me too dysfunctional.
>>1071004
Why not go outside? Or read, write, draw, cook, etc?
>>1071008
Initiating it is the hard part if your brain shuts down the second you stop getting external stimulus. Of course if someone else is with me I can get back to normal but all alone you just shut down the second you take a break and then the hours just float by when you're dazed.
It's a self-made disease from too many years of constant and chronic external stimulus. I've essentially made myself so extrovert (as in get energized from stimulus rather than drained) that I've made a catch 22: To get stimulus I need to be stimulated, to be stimulated I need to get stimulus.
>>1062779
If you find a tape recorder or spooky book there don't play/read it.
Anyone comfy cabin with solar panels? Wanted to cover my cabin entirely in solar panels and setup some deep cycle batteries for lights and powered toilet storage system.
Was curious how it went, if you liked it, tips, etc.
>>1071004
Could you just slowly train yourself out of it?
I've been to my cabin on a lake multiple times alone, for up to a couple weeks. Getting out the of the city is amazing.
thanks for dumping OP
Is shower in the middle of a room neat or fucking stupid?
>>1071570
bit of both honestly
>>1071570
kinda shit but if you have a sweet qt gf then it's nice.
>>1071570
It interrupts the space a lot.
>>1072109
yes, but it's not supposed to move, it's mostly for some kind of luxury full service camping
i think it's also designed to avoid a construction permit, and to be 'eco-friendly'
