gf and I are headed to Sweden in late August for a few weeks of car camping in a small rented van.

I know about the right of land use but how does that extend to sleeping in your car? Will people/cops give us shit? Favorite places to stop to catch some sleep in the back of the car? Our only general plan is Malmö to Uppsala via Göteborg.
>>
You need to post photos of your gf so we can give you a better informed answer. ;))

moved to USA as a kid and no longer have a car available to me over there. have fond memories of car camping but wasn't sure if things had changed about it being socially/legally acceptable

>>1061202
low effort bait - it's the first city you have to drive through if you're flying into Copenhagen, which has cheap flights from west coast of US
>>
>>1061149
Just read up on the laws regarding camping in Sweeden.
It should be leagal to sleep in your van on any rest stop or roadside, as long as you don't drive your van into the open terrain (that includes fields, beaches and plains). Otherwise follow the normal rules of "allemandsretten" I guess: Don't stay too close to peoples homes, don't camp on crops or young, plantet forest, don't light a fire in places that could start a wild fire and so on.

Have a nice trip
>>
>>1061149
Swede here, the country is crawling with road pirates, refugeerapists and other scum. I do not recommend sleeping in your car
>>
>>1061274
I hope this is true.
I should be in Sweden sleeping in my truck around the same time.

What's the best way to attract a pirate rapist?
>>
>>1061149
You can park car at rest areas here and there among major motorways. This implies you sleep in you car.

Alternative is a camping place.

If you camp in a tent, all non-private property and forests are fine (places like backyards and city parks etc. are off limits).

Note if you camp at random places deep innawoods, hunting might be going on so pay attention to where you are and try to not get shot.

> no-go zones
There are none, despite what rt.com, Putin and other Russia-sponsored & connected elements would like you to believe.
Some places require additional escort as people like fire brigade or ambulance crews sometimes get rocks thrown at them by unemployed retards who 1. still live with their stupid parents, 2. hate themselves for it, because of their big ego, and 3. believe any shit their asshat preachers tell them, thus these people channel their self-hate and idiot dysfunctional family problems towards the surrounding society.

Anyway, welcome and have fun. Be sure to check your planned route on the map for interesting places. For example, driving along the south coast or west coast and overnighting along the way and day travelling to forage some berries from a forest, can be an interesting /out experience.

>>

Who knows?

I don't watch CNN and your Lügenpresse angle was stupid during the 1940s and is stupid now.

The Russian hybrid warfare is real. Why they do it for EU, beats me, as a strategy it is stupid as Russia would benefit more from a strong EU with own EU-defence to reduce NATO-reliance.
>>
>>1061454
Every country has a bogeyman to scare children.
Don't watch/read/consume any "news" and you won't even know Russia exists.
>>
>>1061468
NATO has a long illness and will die peacefully in it's sleep.

Russia hopes that when it dies, trust in Americans dies with it.
>>
>>1061472
Yes, a transatlantic NATO will die when dollar chokes on its debt, since the relation between large military and dollar as a reserve currency is symmetrical. Value of both must be kept up or it falls apart.

And, I think, Russia will split when Putin dies, since all the domestic vultures want a piece of the cake.

In the meanwhile Russia could do more to build bridges. For instance stop being so unnecessarily passive-aggressive towards its neighbours.

> inb4 offtopic
I think it is a shame that Russia as a massive nature-resource rich country is not really pushing more to become an international /out paradise. They have almost all biomes, lakes, rivers, mountains, deserts and tundras and whatnot. Haven't been there but people have quite awesome photos up on Google Earth!
>>
>>1061454
Yeah I'm sure Russia is a serious threat to Sweden, the word that goes around in Kremlin is that they're about to invade Sweden. Damn Russians, mang.
Fortunately Sweden has a huge population of african and muslim migrants that are very integrated in swedish society and that will every they can do to maintain Sweden as the progressive, socialist paradise that it has been throughout the last decades.

It is happening and will become reality regardless of what muh innapendence types think of it. Isolated tribes go extinct, larger groups much less so.
>>
>>1061482
I'm from a country that is one of oldest EU's members.

>Isolated tribes go extinct, larger groups much less so
Tell that to EU and mother germany with their efforts to replace Europeans with lesser developed ethnic groups. In 150/200 years tell me how well did that work to smaller countries.

>>1061488

>I know about the right of land use but how does that extend to sleeping in your car?
Right of land generally only applies if it isn't fenced in. It will not be popular if you park on someone's land without their permission. Most landowners will probably think you are up to no good.

Most rest stops nowadays have a maximum of a couple hours parking time due to Romanian and Bulgarian nationals setting up camp at these stops. They threaten other people and they litter. Stay clear if there appears to be a camp at a rest stop.

Would not recommend staying overnight at a rest stop with 24 hour parking either unless you see a lot of trucks stopped over night. Road pirates are a thing and don't stop if someone appears to require assistance. They will either rob you or try to sell fake gold. May even try to box you in on a highway if your girl appears to be alone in the car. These cars often have Romanian, Bulgarian or other foreign plates so stay clear.

>Will people/cops give us shit?
You will probably on average see 0 to 2 police patrols outside the cities on your entire trip. Swedes will most likely not give you shit as long you don't park on their private road or appear suspicious. However you are going to sleep in a van so people are going to assume you are junkies or addicts and may call the cops on you to investigate if you park on their property.

>Favorite places to stop to catch some sleep in the back of the car? Our only general plan is Malmö to Uppsala via Göteborg.
That's like a 12 hour drive at most. During day time just stop at one of the plentiful rest stops or roadside following guidelines above. Minimal risk during day.
>>
>>1061657
Is it generally safe to leave a car (with foreign EU plates) parked somewhere quiet while you go off and hike or explore the city?

I'm not worried about dealing with "pirates" directly, just what they might do while I'm not around.
>>
>>1061682
I don't think the plates will increase the risk. Don't leave valuables visible in the car. And don't leave it roadside unattended for more than max 24 hours. Make it appear parked legally because once the police or fire department tape it (blue/white or red/yellow tape telling everyone they don't have to stop and search the car for people in need) it's free for all. It's tourist season so there are going to be plenty of foreign plates everywhere.

A more expensive looking car will probably not attract people that like smashing in the windows the first night. Leave it longer and you will find anything of value stolen from it including the wheels.

If you want to explore I suggest using designated parking spots. If there is a natural reserve, park, ruin, trail or whatever you can be sure there is a parking spot and there will be no issue to leave the car there.

In reality you will probably have no issues at all during day time during your stay. Just be smart where you leave the car for extended periods of time. I'd say the same rules applies to wherever you live. You would probably not park your car roadside for a few days and expect no one to fuck with it.
>>
>>1061687
In my country we don't even lock the front doors in small towns.
My car is sitting outside right now, with the window halfway down and key in the ignition.
Sometimes I leave the engine and A/C running while I shop if it's mid day.
Stupid foreigners ruining everything.

If I go up to someone's house and ask to park my car on their property while I go explore, and even give them the keys to my car as a sign of good faith or incase they want to buy groceries or whatever.
Do you think that'd go down well or will people think its some sort of "pirate" scam?
>>
>>1061687
>You would probably not park your car roadside for a few days and expect no one to fuck with it.
Wtf has Sweden turned into? I live in a working class neighborhood, 99% of people who live here are native but it's still a blue color neighborhood regardless and my car stays outside since I drive, many days at time even when I travel abroad for 2 week+ trips and never had a single problem. In 20years living year I remember one car being stolen. And despite being a relatively small city, is near a 1M+ metropolitan area.

>In my country we don't even lock the front doors in small towns.
Sweden was like that too before EU, open borders and accepting loads of refugees in the 90s. Can't say recent years really improved the situation.

>If I go up to someone's house and ask to park my car on their property while I go explore, and even give them the keys to my car as a sign of good faith or incase they want to buy groceries or whatever.
>Do you think that'd go down well or will people think its some sort of "pirate" scam?
Honestly that would kind of be very weird depending on how and where you asked. Sure if you asked if you could park on my property while catching me outside then yes I'd probably would have no issue with it and think no more of it. If you knocked on the front door of my house I'd assume one of three things depending on your behavior, origin and appearance.

I'd assume you either were a Russian spy making a list of who to kill in the event of war (yes the Russians actually go around mapping key military and civilian personell), suspect you were a weird tourist not knowing about not intruding on Swedes personal space but not be absolutely certain. Or a person intending to tie me up, torture me and attempt to rob me because the newspaper just wrote how much I own and that I live remotely.

If I suspect the first case I'd alert the security police and go on with my day. In the second case I'd be a bit disturbed and be alert because after all you intruded in my house. In the third case I would go fetch my hunting rifle and call the friendly neighbourhood watch because the nearest police patrol is 6 to 10 hours away at best case if they ever come.

You are however in the somewhat densely populated south so people will probably just assume you are a tourist or suspect you are a foreigner out to steal their lawnmower and pressure washer with your van. What is your origin? East or west Europe?
>>
>>1061716
>Wtf has Sweden turned into?
Well the only car that actually would be left roadside for a few days no where near a home unattended is a car the owner wants to illegally dump or an old car that was stolen by an junkie and then just left where it is when the gas is all used up. The monetary value of the car is probably sub $2000 so it's not in the owners interest to salvage it. As for what it's turned into is an unsafe mess where you avoid certain areas after night time. I like winter when in the city because the "troublemakers" don't like the cold.

>I live in a working class neighborhood, 99% of people who live here are native but it's still a blue color neighborhood regardless and my car stays outside since I drive, many days at time even when I travel abroad for 2 week+ trips and never had a single problem. Modern cars don't get stolen. Cars in general gets burned up in Sweden if parked in the wrong area due to "not enough" youth gardens. A foreigner will have no idea where it's actually safe to park a car in the city.

>Modern cars don't get stolen. Cars in general gets burned up in Sweden if parked in the wrong area due to "not enough" youth gardens.
Honestly, if people started burning other people's cars here they would either get a police beating or their shit being handed to them by the residents.

A couple years ago some thief tried to steal a motorcycle in a neighborhood some 70km far from mine, the dude got unlucky and a youth group (the not so well adjusted type) caught the dude, drove him into a small plot of forest, tied him into a tree and btfo kinda bad. And as far as I remember no one got prosecuted for it.

But there's still crime out there like everywhere else, jewelery shops, ATMs, being stolen are not uncommon to appear on the news. Some probably may have heard of a major shitshow that should have had political consequences, there were a decent amount of military equipment being stolen from a military base. Gossip says that's probably just cover up for the equipment never have been there in the first place lel.

Yeah we like to keep our lives here and not have 40 brothers and cousins waiting outside your house for you.

No law abiding Swede with a job would do that. The thief would get away with 48 hours community service and the people doing crime deterrence would get a year or two in jail. Not worth it.

It's fucked up, but at some point people either fight or flight. Being it Sweden, American or Moroccan.
