I'm in a campervan (I have my wife's little brother with us or we would be in hammocks) and going clockwise around the island. We left Reykjavík and are currently at Varmaland Campsite, going to continue North and East.

We hiked one small area with a waterfall, wanting to do more hiking and hit some hot springs hopefully.

What do /out/ ???
>>
>my wife's little brother
At least it isn't your wife's little son.

Thank you, circling now. We have been driving a lot.
Decided to head West to Glama, took the long rout on 60 on the South side and I'm glad we did. Tons of beautiful waterfalls, mountains, and a tunnel 4 km long. We are now eating dinner at Isafjordur campsite, it's packed.

Thanks for the advice! Circling these on my map now!
>>
Another couple of waterfalls from trails and big hill trail today.

This place doesn't look fucking real

It's badass! Clockwise is the way, and camping is easy.

>>1061242
Thanks, will do. It was long for me, only been in a few in Colorado and Virginia. They weren't this cool though, cut the rock in like 1949 I think.

>>1061709
No poo here, just beautiful Viking rock towers and waterfalls.

>>1060545
Pic related is from the list you gave anon. Met some nice Russians there too!

Camping in Skagstrond. Maybe museum of prophecies tomorrow before heading to more foss and hot springs.

About 3500 for 12 days. 2 people and a kid it's comfy. Got a little kitchen and stove, icebox, heater ect.. the table and seats fold down into a bed. It's an Opel Vivaran or something, standard transmission, fun to drive actually.

Relax boofer, I'm 29 my wife is 28, her little brother is 14. This is his first time out of the country. Her parents paid his airfare and his part. I'm paying for other shit but I'm a professional with no kids so it's nothing.

Dettifoss was cool, but dusty. We came from the North and the road was shit.

>>1060545
Are those F-Road areas and how deep F-Road? Arctic truck required or is a regular 4x4 do-able?
>>
>>1062503

There's ice for some of the year, this was last february
>>
>>1063274
no, all these places are located close to the public roads, so you can do it in a very small car like Aygo or similar
>>
>>1063373
Are these places for hiking? If so, how long?

We only have 3 days before going to Europe so I'll have to take a look at each of these places.
>>
>>1063484
If you're looking for a nice half day hike you can climb Kristínartindar from Skaftafell, nice views of the glaciers.
>>
>>1063745
Maps means we take Hwy 1 to Hwy998. Where road 998 ends, there's another 6 km until Skaftafell. Can we drive right up to there?
How is the hike to Kristínartindar?

Any other recommendations? Will update thread in one week when I'm doing this climb :)

Yes, there's a visitor center and road in is paved, you go from there. I don't remember exactly how long it was but it's a pretty easy hike and all on trail.
>>
>>1063777
Are there any interdasting F-Roads that you would recommend? Ones that aren't near normie / britbong / kraut travellers and overrun.

I wanted to rent the Hilux / Land Cruiser so we can be alone for 3 days but it's still too much money for too little time. Maybe next year.

I have not yet searched up all of these >>1060545 simply due to the sheer volume but will look at all of them later tonight.

OP here. West Fjords was great. Reccomend going clockwise. I'm on the South side now.

Hiking is as great or easy as you want it. There are some great long trails at the park heinabergsjökull. Glaciers n sheeit are South. There are badass waterfalls everywhere.

Foladafoss was my favorite. Secluded kind of, and hiking all around it is cool. No restrictions like others. Pic related.

Went waist deep into some 8' shore break waves earlier, a tour guide came and told my wife people die there and I should get out lol. I'm a surfer so I wasn't that scared.
>>
>>1063885
Great to hear! Did you get an F-Road certified vehicle?

We're going to look into Foladafoss because if it's secluded, it'll be major q t. How much hiking before you can see taht view? How's the weather if you can just go waste deep into the water? Have you drank any of the water yet?

How long are the ones in heinabergsjökull? And which important Fjords are good? We'll be hitting up the west side first so alright.
>>
>>1063885
How's the rain there, broskiii?
>>

Don't do that you idiot. People get pulled out on that beach every year, and if one moron ignores the signs and goes in, other morons will follow.

also, while i have you. Don't stop your car in the middle of the road to take pictures, don't drive offroad and don't mess with the moss, that thing takes years to recover.
>>
>>1064733
it rains often but usually not much or for long.
>>
>>1064867
>don't drive offroad and don't mess with the moss
yeah that's a very good call

they do have offroading paths, though. and i really want to take those around. any suggestions?
>>
>>1065030
If your in a camper, i would not recommend it. Stick to pavement or gravel.
Also, if you visit hot springs, if there is a path, stay on it.
I went to school with a guy called "hot dog" because he fell into one up to his waist.

Same goes for waterfalls during the winter, the mist forms a invisible sheet of ice over everthing .

......as you can probably tell, im kinda fed up with turists trying to get themselves killed :p

p.s. where are you and what parts do you have left?
>>
>>1065128
I'm in a 5 door crossover because the Land Cruiser FJ150 was way too much to rent.

I am not OP and am looking for good destinations. I arrive in 4 days and have that much time to drive around and look at scenery. No blue lagoon for us ^__^

No, F roads are for 4x4 we only have a camper van.
Water from falls I donno.
Water from tap is delicious.
I've been wearing shorts this whole trip. Foladafoss hiking is nothing to get there, there are more falls and glaciers that require a real hike to get there. It's just cool because there aren't stairs and ropes so it's like actual hiking rather than like today at skogafoss, pictured lazily, all stairs and rails and chains to keep the masses from fucking everything up.
Spend time in that West Fjords peninsula, it's beautiful, authentic and empty.
>>1064733
Never rained during daytime until at Vik yesterday. Kind of night time drizzle other times. Still, it looks like daytime all night.
>>1064867
>woman
Yeah, nah, m8. I've bodysurfed 10' shore break so I understand how quick it could happen. I've gone around boomer aged faggots parked in the road on the switchback taking pictures.
>>1065128
We have until Tuesday, currently at Stokksevri, liked random roads and different fan symbols not knowing what we would see until we got there, epic.
Most beautiful place I've ever been. Beats Alaska, except the wildlife. Only sheep and horses here.
>>
>>1065269
Nature baths up North is better. I have 11 days I think 8 or 9 would have been fine too. I like to see everything since I will not likely be coming back, it's worked fine. Don't know really what I missed not going on F roads, the gravel roads were fun though, driving a stick makes it more fun. I suck on hills in city streets though. Too many people and cars, little ass roads, and didn't have experience with this clutch and van.

Our next trip will be back in hammocks and without her little brother. I'm too big of a fan of road head.
>>
>>1065278
Nature Baths up north. Gotcha. Anywhere to wander east and west from there? Less EU tourists too, I guess.
Road head on bumpy roads... don't do it.

>>1065274
Water from falls why not?

>Foladafoss hiking is nothing to get there,
Does this mean there is nothing once you get there. OR does that mean the hike is nothing?

So we can do actual hiking / climbing up to get to the glaciers and stuff, eh? Can you recommend a path? We don't have a GPS tho
>>
Would hammocks even work in Iceland? The vegetation is extremely sparse.
>>
Naturally, I don't expect you to answer all of these but I did look up at least a minute on google for all these locations.

>>1060545
>Hvitserkur
Looks drivable on the first day. Anything else around that besides the rocks?
>Akureyri
City watching is nice. What else is there?
>Dettifoss

nice.

same.

Sure.

Seems to be worth it. No reports online though so I'm most interested in this one that may or may not be the most empty in terms of tourists. True?

Lol yeah didnt think bout the bumby roads.

Bruh, the pizza at Skjol camp was THE FUCKING BOMB. Right next to Gullfoss, a must see.

Scared of random water making me shit myself. Foladafoss hike is nothing as far as actual hiking, you can do the upper and lower path from the parking in an hour. Walking really, not hiking lol..

Donno about the hiking within the parks. My phone and gps have worked this whole time, but the roads and maps are simple enough and well labeled. There are helpful map signs too.

>>1066495
Nah hammocks would not be possible. Not enough trees at camps, only peoples property really have trees aside from a few trails that dont allow camping.

Had a great trip. Beautiful country. Will come back and rent a big 4x4 because italked to an Italian who said the mountians roads in glaciers were crazy and beautiful.

26, a road nickname exhausted horse because the trolls and fairy live there and nobody wants to stop. That's the jam but you need 40" super swampers to Ford the river n sheeit.

Had the bishops and priests coffee Loki cafe eith meat soup it was excellent.

You don't specifically need the larger 4x4s. I was going to get a Dacia Duster which later turned out to be a Jeep Cherokee. Drove it easily throughout the mountains and the glaciers. Managed to not see a single person for literally 2 hours up on the moutains

Glacier is in the back. You'd be able to hike this path if you wanted and it's AMAZING for that. You just need to know how to navigate rocks on a (((rental car))) and do river crossings that get deep depending on the rain and time of the year.

I did the same trek, but started at Thorsmörk and walked towards Landmannalaugar.

>>

>Thorsmörk
I drove this. See >>1069889. How is it to walk it? Can you possibly do a google maps highlight of the trail you took or is that not really possible?

Did you do that in the summer or winter?
>>
>>1071261
Can't really drive there unless you ford one major river. Ther eis tons of GPS tracks, it is just the most popular hike in Iceland/Scandinavia.
And you can only do it in summer. Like all other things in the highlands.
