Long story short I was in Colorado for a week and climbed a 13,400' peak called Audubon Mountain in Roosevelt National Forest. I wanted to do Long's Peak but it looked a little too much for a first timer even though I am a pretty fit person.

Me and a friend hiked for 10 miles and climbed a little over 3000 feet, and I got some nice pictures in the process.

Climbed the middle one and the right one

Cascade volcanos are way different from other mountain ranges

I'm gonna attempt the South Sister in oregon whenever the snow fucks off.

I'm a noob with no experience climbing, even though I know this one isn't technical and is only like 10,500ft. It's got about 5000ft gain in the 6mi hike to the summit. I'm decently fit, but I have never done a hike with this much elevation gain, or hiked anywhere above 5000ft. How do I know if shit is going bad and it would be smart to turn around?

>How do I know if shit is going bad and it would be smart to turn around?
When you truly start feeling like shit due to altitude, or when your water runs out well before the summit. Also, inclement weather.

Some shortness of breath is to be expected, and a light headache may accompany it, but don't push on if it goes beyound that.

Highest peak I've climbed is Kilimanjaro at 5895m a decade ago. Bit of a meme, except for the final summit push which is still tough, but I caught the mountaineering bug. Second highest was Elbrus east summit last year via North route. Amazing, but shit weather during summit push, pic related.

guys.. would Mount Elbert be too much for a first mountain? planning on taking the black cloud trail

also, any tips? i've been hiking and camping for a while so i'm not a total noob just haven't gone through a mountain yet
>>

>a first mountain? planning on taking the black cloud trail
>The most difficult of the main routes is the Black Cloud Trail, a Class 2 climb that takes ten to fourteen hours depending on pace, gains 5,300 feet (1,600 m) in elevation, and also involves an ascent of the sub-peak, South Elbert, at 14,134 feet (4,308 m).[23] Even healthy and experienced climbers report great difficulty on this route, and despite the fact that there is a trail, the route is extremely steep, unstable, and rocky in places. The elevation gain is not evenly distributed over the 5.5-mile ascent.
just be careful

I'm out of shape and overweight. I've been on /fit/ for 3 months, started at 235lbs down to 202 now.

One of my fitness goals is to climb Mt. Fuji, since I'm currently living in Japan. I won't be ready during this climbing season, but I want to do it next year.

What's the best way for someone essentially starting from 0 to prepare for something like that?

Right now a big chunk of my cardio is using the treadmill at a high incline. I figure endurance is probably going to help. But I'd take any suggestions.

Also, any tips for avoiding altitude sickness? Is it really just going slow and getting acclimated?

Morocco has some comfy mountains. I don't think this one has a name, but it's one of my favorite areas in the Atlas.

The main factor in mountaineering success is your ability to suffer and withstand that suffering.

I have been up Mt. Fuji and in my opinion it is not actually a particularly difficult mountain to climb. I am a relatively unfit 18 year old, 6'2" and 150 lbs, which is admittedly much more optimized for mountain climbing than being overweight.
Endurance is prolly the most important factor on Fuji. What >>1056351 said is very true really. Gotta push through the miserable wind and cold while being sleep deprived.
The weight loss is obviously great, I'm no /fit/izen but I imagine that you're on the right track as far as that goes.
It is not very likely that you will experience altitude sickness. The air IS thinner, and you may notice it being harder to breathe, however, altitude sickness at 12000 feet is not very likely, although most definitely possible! Going slow does in fact help, and it is very important to be well fed and watered. Fuji has overpriced water on it for you to purchase so this shouldn't be too big of an issue. They say that Fuji is the shortest mountain in the world where people use bottled Oxygen.
There are SHITLOADS of people on the mountain every morning going to see the sunrise. It is a spectacular view of the sun coming over the clouds in the morning though. I wish I had pictures on this computer.
It is a fun/interesting hike though, good luck in doing it! I believe in you anon.
