i've gone down a local river a couple times over the past month...don't own a kayak, though.

first time i used some cheap ~12' long kayak and it was really fun.

second time i used some $1k "play" kayak that was super short, and we went 5+ miles. it was a terrible experience. the fucking thing was a pain in the ass to keep moving in a straight line, and it made my ass itch like a motherfucker.

14' ocean kayak

Can haul me (220lb) some gear, and ~100lbs " barely"
Scary in 3-4' waves, 3 mile ocean crossing. Happy to be alive.

12' fishing kayak here, absolutely love it. Took it down for a trip on the lake the other day, did 26KM of paddling.

Also, kayaks are so great because they are silent on the water and not very big. Wildlife doesn't freak out like when they see/hear a boat or even a canoe. Was about 30ft from a brown bear on the water, didn't seem to be bothered by me and just carried on.

yesterday
be me

>kayaking in lake huron it's July so I assumed the water wouldn't be too cold.
>attempt to swim by rolling off the back of kayak
>kayak flips water is 43 degrees
>spend the next 20 minutes breathing funny trying to haul the kayak to where I can touch bottom.
>get out of lake body feels like it's on fire still breathing funny
>afterwards I thought the whole thing was pleasant
>>

>fucking thing was a pain in the ass to keep moving in a straight line,
Playboats are supposed to be able to turn on a dime. You have to paddle them differently, and they're not meant for flatwater.

Really enjoy kayaking but no space or $$ to get my own boat, so living that rentalcuck life too. I usually take out rec kayaks since that's all the places have. But last weekend I got a touring kayak. Shit was so cash. Never going back unless I have to. Will dump some kayaking pics in a few.

Anyone own an Oru kayak? The foldability appears to me since I have no space to store a kayak, but can't tell if they're worth the money or not. Also considering a packraft.

Pic is from last weekend, 9.5 mile trip down a local river and lake.

Just bought it recently; a cheap Sundolphin Journey 10. Only been out fishing in it a couple times so far, but better than being stuck on the shore. Spent some time out yesterday just offshore tipping it over and practicing getting back on.

have you ever tried lifting a kayak out of the water that's full. you probably haven't because you would know it's not as easy as it sounds.

If flights are cheap, you should go. With the currency exchange from zloty to the $ or £ you can travel like a king (at least on the polish side. Slovakian side is all €). Go even a little more south from Pieniny National Park to the Tatras National Park and you can do even more serious climbing there.

Eskimo roll...
Good luck, tried to learn it.
Ear drums hurt from the water.

And i doubt i could do it a sea in big waves & wind. And cargo

Thats why i don't go near whales & hate sea lions. Fuckers chased me twice so far
>>
>>1051703
fuck sea lions. i got chased all the way across the monterey harbor by a fucking 9' bull. still thankful he didn't decide to flip my ass, because i know he could have, no problem.
>>
>>1050880
Unironically my kayak.
No room or transportation for a 'real' kayak not to mention it's my first so I don't wanna spend too much money on something I am not sure I will be using.
I use it for fishing though, not zomfg-gotta-go-fast-transportation.
>>1051650

I don't know where they are but I got these off a fake book page. Supposedly they are on the rocks on the shoreline on the way up.
