How do you keep your dog tick free in NE? Do you just have to do a tick check after every /out/ting? Anyone have tips on checking quickly?
Not too worried about the dog getting sick, as there is medication to kill ticks. More worried about them dropping off the dog in the house/car and biting me.

The heartworm medicine I use on my dog supposedly kills ticks on contact, and I do a quick once-over with a curry comb when we get home.
It's never been a problem for me.

I think the medicine only kills once the tick bites. Sometimes they will drop off the dog before biting. Found a couple in my car and couch so far this season.
Are you in NE or somewhere else? Also what kind of fur/hair does your doggo have?

NW corner of MO. So kinda similar area depending on which side of NE you're on.
Yellow lab, so coarse, straight, decently long fur.
All the live ticks that've made it into my house I can say with 95% certainty came in either off me, or off my cat from my yard (his heartworm medicine doesn't kill ticks). I do find a fair number of dead ticks in my dog's bed or in the bed of my truck. Doggo doesn't ride in the cab with me, he goes in the truck bed under the camper shell.
Frontline for fucks sake

Why don't we have Frontline for humans? I don't even care what the side effects would be, gibs me dat shit!
Anyone have advice for dealing with ticks on yourself? I hate these things and I'm some sort of tick magnet

It's highly carcinogenic. Dog's lifespan is to short for the cancer to develop. Not so for people.
>mfw I have rhino skin and ticks cant even succeed in latching onto my skin
Feels good

UK here, just pulled one out of my alaskan malamutes eyelid. Bought him tablets.
For humans:
i use a Permethrin spray on my /out/ clothes and waterproof goretex outer shells. alot of sheep ticks and midgies here and that works well. also would recommend using a DEET based cream for your skin if its stinking hot outside.
