Fly fishing kit for places with less deadfall.
I usually carry one of the rods with me if going on river trips. These pictures doesnt contain some accesoroes that i carry with rods like small pliers, nippers, leaders, tippets and shit like that
>>
looking good, personally i´d change some things in the cook kit and carry more water. but thats a damn fine kit as i see it, be weary of that twisty knob fiskars saw though, break violently.

also whats the plan here?

also, with that much stuff strapped to the outside, consider a pack rain cover!

Remove the hatchet sheath
Remove gerber trash, one knife is enough
Remove orange stove box
Remove army canteen and its pouch, use generic water bottles, canteen pot is fine for when you solo, get a 2 pot cookset for everything else.
Get a water filter
Use something sharp to make 100ml marks inside the stainless cup (good for rehydrating food that needs exact amount of water)
The shit attached to the bottom of your pack will bounce on your ass and will drive you insane (you need some sort of frame for this style to work).
You are currently in the mindset that you don't need a bigger bag and that bigger bags make you pack more useless shit. In a season or two you will finally pull the trigger on the 70+l backpack and it will be the best 100eu you ever spent.
t. your southern neighbor that started with pretty much exact setup.
Also is green roll your tent?

i´d say that depends on where OP is going and how long

Op here. Second knife - folding gerber is for cutting things we consume fresh like a clean cooking knife without raw meat blood stains and shit that can contaminate something you eat raw like veggies. Canteen set is good i use canteen cup as a 2 person pot and canteen is part of our water (rest of the water is carried in a simple plastic bottle so i can easily bring as much as i need for the time planned). Water filter - dont trust these things. I have some background in selling water purofication systems so ive done some research about it and tested plenty. Long story short try out yout lifestraw after few uses and bring water samples to lab... Im not worried about bringing extra 200grams if it protects my axe blade or gas stove. Green stuff is the outer layer from gelert track 2 tent pic related

The sheath is useless weight and you will eventually loose it anyways, leave it at home and if you are afraid you will loose the hatchet just loosen the circled strap and loop it around the hatchet once.
He's Latvian and is taking fishing rods with him. There are no mountains or huge forests in this region and 90% of camping is done near a body of water.

About the backpack... Yes i almost bought 65liter one recently but i missed the sale so for now just going with what i have. About the markings in pot thats something i will definately do! Thanks a lot for your suggestions
>>
>>1042823
Im more concerned about fucking shit up with the blade because its always sharp. Yes what you say about Latvia is true, no mountains, some few big forests but plenty of remote places where i can hike and only ones i will meet will be wild animals

I use Katadyne hiker pro, generally curious about what your tests showed. Im halfway through its rated 200l lifecycle and been using it to filter everything - small streams, rivers, stagnant ponds, lakes, etc. No one got sick so far, granted its probably not something you would want to give to your child but for general use i believe its fine. Is water contamination a big issue in your region?
>>
>>1042832
Yes. Sewer sometimes goes right into rivers, chemicals from agriculture, wild animals and factories also can play their part. Not like its really polluted compared to different places but i rather not drink that water unless its really necessary
>>
>>1042822
>>1042828
>Im more concerned about fucking shit up with the blade
uhh yes, this sliced my palm the fuck up when my hultafors shifted in place on one for my packs, added 2 bungy cord to the sheath from then on.

a sharp tool should have a sheath/mask even if just twine and duct tape

i think there are better ways to save waight before throwing away the axe sheath, the spice set for example
>>
>>1042834
I bought really light tent, saved some space getting 3cm not 5cm sleeping pads and shit like that. Not talking about weight because i can carry more easily than i currently have. More concerned about pack size than weight. Other tents wouldnt fit in the backpack so easily

Fair point
>>1042833
Different people, different standards for what they call contaminated. I once had a friend freakout because a peace of meat touched a stone in a fire.
>>1042825

yeaa no mate. maybe YOUR axe is dull as a spoon but mine (and OP's, as it is brand new from teh look) are not.

>>1042843
>Different people, different standards

organophosphate runoff is pollution regardless of standards, you don't want to be ingesting that shit if you can help it.

getting 'dirt' on your food is not the same as a parasitic infection from drinking unpurified water, for example

What food do you guys get on spot? Fish, animals, shrooms, berries? I usually catch some fish and gather herbs for tea. Shrooms and berries are always planned for dinner when its season. I usually bring few veggies and try to supplement from what i can gather. Planning on buying small foldable crawfish trap for the next trip in 2 weeks. Would be lovely to celebrate our anniversary with some fresh crawfish and vine while sleeping in tent naked and watching the stars
>>
>>1042865
I never plan on getting food out. At most I will get some pine needles or berries if I see some unless I'm specifically going out fishing or mushrooming (which is not very often).

Poasting here to /r/ gear suggestions. I am looking toward backpack, boots, or a jacket.

I only have 130 shekels because I'm poor.

Don't tell me to buy shoes instead of boots; my ankles are very dainty and you'll damage what little sense of self security I managed to maintain through life.
>>
>>1043677
>$130 for pack, boots and jacket
Just wrap your feet in trash bags, and use a trash bag for a backpack and wear a trash bag for warmth. Bluntly, if you only have $130 available you can't afford this equipment. Non-trash boots will cost close to that. A decent pack is not to be had for under $80.

You'd be better off wearing street clothes out and saving your money over wasting it on such shit gear.

Sorry, I realize I didn't write that very well.

I am looking for a jacket, backpack, or boots. I already have some of each, but I am looking to upgrade at least one.
>>
>>1043778
Makes more sense now. Which needs an upgrade the most? Boots are hard to rec because feet vary so much. Vasque makes good stuff but any long hike and my pinky toes will start to hurt because the shape of their toe box and my feet.
>>
>>1043785
My current backpack is pushing 6 lbs and holds 60l. I don't need that much space for a week of summer hiking, and have a hard time filling it even in winter.

My current layering system comprises of a down feather inner liner, and a lightweight Columbia rain jacket. They aren't made for each other, but the shell for the liner is like 4 lbs.

My boots are getting worn down. They don't breathe well. It takes a lot to get them wet, but once you do it is game over.
>>
>>1043789
>My current backpack is pushing 6 lbs and holds 60l

Anon your backpack should not weigh more than 1.5 lbs at the heaviest, you need to upgrade. Also, do you really need 60 lbs? If you need to glamp just go car camping

Boots are a fucking meme, literally paying to wear the shoe equivalent of bricks on your feet kys. I don't have any opinions on layering system because it never goes below 60 where I live. Get a new backpack faggot.
>>
>>1044308
recommendations for a pack?

It's worth mentioning that I like top go "straight-lining" through the forest, which is exactly what it sounds like. I need something that is fairly durable.

I already told you about my frail ankles and how boots help with that condition.

If something goes wrong and you are 3 days walk from the nearest trail in summer you're going to die otherwise. Or bushfire.

Only new thing is the sleeping pag. Everything else i clean after using. Packpack always hanged othervise it would be damb and muddy and weight a lot more on the way back.

Norfin
>>
>>1049264
Some parts are few years old (like canteen set) and some are new (sleeping pads) tools used for a while but not like im always making fireplace or a fucking wooden castle so the wear is minimal. Plus i clean, sharpen and grease my tools
